ProcessTamer / Mouse lagging... but figured it out!
« Last post by TucknDar on October 12, 2006, 02:51 PM »
I was having the most annoying problem for about a month, as the mouse pointer had suddenly started to lag sometimes. I had no idea what caused this, but thought that it might be a hardware problem, and something I just had to live with until I either got a new mouse or at least new drivers...

but I started thinking which apps I had installed or which AHK-scripts I had started using recently, but couldn't really figure it. I suspected that Process Tamer was the culprit, but apparently closing it (I had it automatically start with Windows 2k) had no effect, so I had to look elsewhere...

Then, today, I got tired of the lag again, and disabled most of the startup-items (why I didn't do this sooner? Erm, well... I was too stupid, ok?! ) and this had the wanted effect: No more lagging! Ok, so the problem is one of these utilities, eh... Let's test them a few at a time. Ok, I narrowed it down, until only one app was left: Process Tamer!

"Damn, that mouser guy seriously bugged the hell out of me! Arrgh! I'll post an angry bug report in the forum!"

Nah, I never think like that (others do, though, but that's another story, which I shall return to later... well, only kinda.), so I looked through the topics in the PT-forum, but no similar problems. "Guess I've gotta stop using Process Tamer... too bad, cause it's a nice little helper sitting there in the tray."

"Wait a minute, could this problem be related to the replacement shell I'm using, Litestep?" In short, yes. A simple 'Ignore' of the 'litestep.exe' process, and like magic the problem disappeared.

why on earth this lengthy post? I figured others might get the same problem sometime, so there ya go. And as stated earlier, we all see those angry posts sometimes from users who hasn't taken the time to figure problems out themselves, well, it works sometimes. So I even got some morality in there! "Ye who trieth shall prevail."

I can only regret the fact that I didn't figure this out a couple of weeks ago, which some of you guys probably would've, but then again if I'd have gotten help, I wouldn't be feeling so good about my self, would I!? ;)

Skrommel's Software / Re: Problems with AutoClip
« Last post by TucknDar on October 11, 2006, 11:07 AM »
I have noticed a problem after starting autoclip,
my double left click for the mouse doesn't work as fast anymore...
odd...

here are the steps i took...

1) double left click  to open text file (works ok)
2) start autoclick
3) double left click  to open text file (Doesn't work, instead it tries to rename the file)
4) close auotclip
5) double left click  again to open text file (works ok again)
I have similar problems, as apparently doubleclicking folders in my file manager (Total Commander) copies the folder-name (AutoClip), which slows down the process. Is there any way to let AutoClip (which is a great idea, I'd use it all the time if it's "fixed"), ONLY recognize/handle actual text? As in no folder-clicking, no doubleclicking files, etc...) I'd love that!

ArsClip is THE clipboard-extender, and I would love for Clipboard Help+Spell to work like ArsClip, with the added bonus of CHS' features, of course!

RenameMaster is awesome, too!

This was annying me too, until I discovered the "Always maintain focus" setting

I support the request, though, it might not always be preferable with the focus-setting.

Looks great, but I've never been comfortable with those Java apps. They don't feel right.

but that's just how I am ;)

Thanks for the link though! Certainly a piece of software that I probably should use, knowing my organizational "skills"... *sigh*

Living Room / Re: How to turn F lock on the keyboard ON by default?
« Last post by TucknDar on September 09, 2006, 04:35 AM »
This "feature" is possibly the worst idea keyboard manufacturers has. Who the hell came up with the idea that the function keys shouldn't be default!? Anyway, I fixed this with KeyTweak, which you'll find here: http://webpages.charter.net/krumsick/

Just remap the keys, i.e. switch them around, so that Fn is default, and you'll still be able to take advantage of the behaviour that the KB-manufacturer wants you to use as default.

Happy remapping!

New version uploaded! (ScriptVersion = 1.19.22)
TucknDar found a giant bug concerning disabling the mbuttondrag method. THANKS!!
Also, fixed 2 typos in the hotkeys options, also found by TucknDar.

I'm now thinking about adding a new method of interation: modifier + leftbutton (working on the whole window, like the mbuttondrag currently does).
Any opinions?
Opinion? Only that this TucknDar-fellow must be some sort of bug-finding genius!

« Last post by TucknDar on September 07, 2006, 03:22 PM »
There is a delay already isn't there? I've actually complained about this particular feature in the past ;) Personally I'd prefer it if there wasn't a delay at all. Mind you, this is for "traditional" clipboard monitoring, not using the spell-feature. But I think you've already taken note of my request, mouser.

If I understand you correctly, there's an AHK-script that does this on autohotkey.com. -> http://www.autohotke...viewtopic.php?t=2456

hope that helps

edit: the script would need a little modification to get php-highlighting, but that should be pretty easy (even for me ;) )

Skrommel's Software / Re: Can't disable DragKing
« Last post by TucknDar on August 30, 2006, 03:33 AM »
Is it possible to make it easier to enalbe/disable it instead of the TrayIcon like a Hotkey , commandline-parameter or some other kind of toggle?
Maybe should've started a new thread, but this feature is something I'd like to see added too. Disabling by hotkey is fine, but I want a toggle hotkey, 'cause I don't need DragKing always copying, and I don't want to quit/restart the app all the time. Otherwise, great tool, very helpful.

one little thing, downloading the ahk-script and running it tells me that the file included file ahkstructlib.ahk is missing. The exe is fine, and to get ahkstructlib.ahk I just decompiled it, but I suppose it should be possible to download somehow.

Takk for et supert script, uansett ;)

Unlike TC, DO allows regular expression which I supposed can do more than TC, but what is the point if newcomer find no way or very hard to learn the syntax of regular expression?
TC allows regex for renaming files.

Is there any app that older than Total Commander that has as many users today, viz., from the DOS days? You can't throw a rock through a window without hitting a Total Commander user, ha!  ;D

Usability: Ease of use, configurability, or to be more specific, the ability to tailor the program to the way you work to meet your needs.
Hmm... I've tailored Total Commander to do exactly what I want it to, it's easy to use and highly configurable, so I just didn't quite understand what you meant with this remark:
As for apps like ExplorerPlus and Total Commander, I have not made a direct comparison, but XYplorer goes beyond either in usability.
But to each his/her own ;)
2) Total Commander is the ugliest among all. (But lifetime license)
-tslim
Even though I'm a huge fan of TC, I'd have to agree with you, although most of it can be configured, the default look and screenshots from the official site can (and probably have) turned quite a few users away.

A great review, though, zridling, even with my complaints. It's always great to see good file managers around, not just to be far superior alternatives to Windows Explorer, but also to keep up the competition! I'm sure all of the great file managers have borrowed quite a few features from the others, so good to see them push each other's boundaries
