Another possibility is an overzealous AV scanner that removes the executable while doing a start-up or full system-scan, as many AHK compiled .exe files are suspicious by default, for most AV scanners :(

Are you really looking for HD? Not sure if that is even available through an antenna-signal, I'd expect SD quality only
AFAIK you can watch TV on the laptop screen, though, what else would be the point of a usb-receiver?

Description
From mousers idea in the NANY 2016 idea thread:
One of the truly TERRIBLE ideas in recent versions of windows is that icons in the system tray are BY DEFAULT set to hide unless they produce a message.
This can frequently (for me at least) lead to me having programs running in the background that I didn't realize were still running.
The option to hide icons is great.  The default behavior is not.

It might be nice to have a program that changed the system setting to always show icons for newly discovered apps.  That is, the utility would run in the background, and the first time it encounters a new exe running, it would check registry for an entry saying to hide the icon, and change that to say to show the icon.  If the user goes so system tray options and chooses to hide it in the future, there will be no effect, as this app is only modifying the setting the first time an app is seen.

This app sits in the System Tray, and tries to detect* (see: Known Issues) newly installed applications that put an icon in the system tray. When detected, it sets that to always show, stores the application name in a list, and waits for the next application to be added.

Features
Handles the annoying fact that Windows hides new System Tray icons from view after ca. 15 seconds.

Planned Features
  • Bugfixes
  • Find a better icon (more contrast o a white background)
  • Create the corresponding webpage on my dcmembers site
  • Lots of improvements...

Screenshots
TODO

Usage
Installation/Update
  • Download the .zip file
  • If SysTrayIconsManage is running, close it from the right-click menu
  • Unpack into it's own directory
  • If portable use is desired, rename settings_portable.xml to settings.xml
  • Start SysTrayIconManage.exe

Using the Application
Initially, all known (that's usually many more than visible!) SysTrayIcons will be added to the 'known icons' list.
From then on, new applications will, when detected (see: Known Issues), be set to Show Always.
Right-click the SysTrayIconsManage icon to enable "Restart Explorer to activate", or else you won't see the icon getting visibility. WARNING: This option will close ALL instances of Windows Explorer!

Uninstallation
When used portable:
  • Stop SysTrayIconsManage (Double-click the icon or Right-Click and selectr Close)
  • Delete the files

When used non-portable:
  • Stop SysTrayIconsManage (Double-click the icon or Right-Click and selectr Close)
  • Delete the executable file
  • Delete directory %APPDATA%\SysTrayIconsManage

Tips
Delete a line from section ExePaths in settings.xml to set that application to visible (may take up to 15 seconds to detect)

Known Issues
  • New applications may not be detected directly, it may take the user to Logoff/Logon or system restart to be recognized
  • All Windows Explorer instances that are open will be closed when 'Restart Explorer to activate' is enabled.
This is (unfortunately) the only known way to reload the System Tray setting

And I have a feature-request (as usual ;D)

Can the available options be made configurable?
I don't want the Shutdown, Sleep and Hibernate options available for systems that are actually located in a hosting farm, as I can't walk over there to press a button, or click a VMWare option, to get them going again after I 'accidentally' use any of those options :-[

Ah, as usual a very useful new tool for NANY

Thanks!

I am curious about the side tangents of all of this.

- I create files I often label (((something))) SHELL to remind me both that something needs to go there but that is a blank file. And since I don't worry about 4-7kb, I tend to use text files, because then I can put in a memo of "what was I *thinking?!*
I'm just trying to find the reasoning for this kind of workflow. But maybe I'm not working often enough with files-in-directories projects to see this at a glance. Now that it's somewhat more explained, I'm getting the hang of it.  ;)

- Do Zero Byte files show up in Directory Readers?
Why would they not? Even a zero-byte file is a file, and the name does hold information. If they don't show up, the directory reader is flawed, IMHO.
1036
Why would you want to create filenames in advance if they differ from the filename to be used eventually?

OT: Reserving space for future filecontent won't work using 0-byte files, as no actual diskspace is claimed by those files, only a directory-entry. Write at least 1 byte and a single cluster (4 KB on most systems) is used.

General Software Discussion / Re: restart switch
« Last post by Ath on December 21, 2015, 01:21 AM »
They are Netgear Business Switches.  JGS524 and JGS524PE. These switches

not sure I understand you skwire.  but that's ok.  4wd, I hadn't thought of the low tech solutions, but that will be hard to do when they are plugged into a battery backup.

I do not have to restart them real often but they are scattered through out the building and didn't want to walk all over.  Some are quite high on the wall as well.
If you are having difficulties with that kind of professional switches, you have, IMHO, 3 options:
  • Send a complaint to the supplier
  • Upgrade the firmware to the latest available
  • Improve the cooling/airflow of the unit
Restarting at irregular intervals is about the last option I'd consider

My request is to use the NANY template, available in the combobox at the top of the message editor, so all entries have the same structure. Now it looks just like any regular forum-message :(

All,

I've had to decide to cancel this pledge.

Due to time constraints and technical issues I've stopped working on it.

I'll try to find a smaller and simpler alternative project for this NANY, but no pledge yet  :(

Guys and gals,

I've had to decide to stop working on this project, and canceling the NANY pledge I've made.

I've sent a PM to questorfla ahead of this post, so he could get the message before returning here.

Sorry about this, for anybody that may have had expectations about it.

Any other takers are welcome, ofcourse.
There are a number of free and non-free solutions available as alternatives, so not all is lost :tellme:

« Last post by Ath on December 16, 2015, 01:03 PM »
Instead of the end-of-life-declared WinSplit Revolution, or it's non-free successor MaxTo, I'd opt for the free, DonationCoder based, GridMove

But I think Win_Resize_Keys is none of the above, it only resizes the current window, it doesn't move&resize all windows into predefined areas.

General Software Discussion / Re: Creating your own Windows Drivers

You did get the message that that kind of drivers are (usually) written in C++, and not in C#, right ?

I don't get quite clear where the output of your webcam should end up, into Skype so you can view it remotely? All webcams I've seen (not that many though) offer some kind of software to watch remotely what's going on, what isn't good enough about that?
Or is it just another programming challenge you're after? For that itch we have NANY 2016, here at DC

but I'm hoping that they pull a rabbit out of a hat, and it's an ethernet connector that should just be soldered on there...
Did some more investigation, but the chances some kind of ethernet connection is available is really slim/0. It doesn't even have USB-hub capability, so adding more than 1 USB apparatus requires adding an external USB hub, where a USB-Ethernet or -WiFi adapter can then also be connected. Well, that makes it, as expected, quite less useful except for really non-network projects. And the best local price I saw for a bare unit is €8,95, that's not really close to $5,- IMHO , and when adding converter-cables and a power supply it passes €25,-
Yep, I'm not very enthusiastic about this 'Zero' thingy :-\ maybe it's the name that says it all...

Living Room / Re: CAT5 splitter?
« Last post by Ath on December 04, 2015, 01:48 AM »
Well, IMHO it works a bit differently on the twisted pair side:
Each wire-pair has the 'standard' signal on one wire (+), and the same signal inverted on the other wire (-), effectively resolving into reverse fields generated, resulting into no (0) transmission by the wire-pair.
Google Images over here, that probably explains it better

Well, that's the (theoretical) story using my slim translation skills :-[

Sounds like HMPA is detecting SC Scrolling capture as a screen-scraping attempt, similar to malware trying to read your credentials etc. from a browser?

Does a standard Screen capture using SC also trigger any Alert?
