General Software Discussion / Re: roboform2go or sticky password?
« Last post by justice on May 02, 2008, 03:33 AM »
Hi There is a major security flaw in Roboform as it does not encrypt your passwords in the default folder while in use ,that means if you are hacked it is easy read , I personally was shocked to note this when told by another user …so I strongly recommend you dont use it for important passwords eg bank accounts ….after emailing roboform the agree that is the way it is and until they fix it I wouldn't use it again . I was a great believer in it until I was shown this flaw
I'm not sure if you're talking about the removable version but definately for Roboform Pro that is not the case on my system. I just opened a few logins in a texteditor and they're definately protected.

Sorrry to hear mouser! Programming projects become very personal sometimes, especially if you put a lot of effort into it already. Try and think about it as freeing up time for a new idea or making existing projects even better (if that's possible!!) that you otherwise wouldn't have had time for!

no not in a virtual pc :) if you'd run it native.  link. screenshors below are taken with windows search indexing.

Well works fine, after folling the instructions on those pages and running automatic updates it's now using about 256mb of memory + cache, running vista classic under virtual pc. After checking that I disabled windows defender and its down to about 230. Superfetch is working after adding 2 registry keys, there is even a window live messenger download link (and windows mail, photo gallery, media player, calendar, contacts, notepad, wordpad, paint is already there)

Windows 2008 workstation guides

Some security software won't install that are meant for home users of course but not really a problem as pc tools free antivirus works fine (if you want that).

System is speedy and feels robust. All windows vista drivers should install, which is pretty good (no experience).I guess application compatibility would make or break this, i can try and install adobe cs3 if you like.
1033
I'm turning windows 2008 standard into a workstation (well on virtual pc) using the guide of some msdn blog. You can enable nearly all vista features (except MCE), but by default nothing is enabled, which is great if you want to run with just the things you want. Everything is there. Unreal Tournament 3 is supposed to run fine.

General Software Discussion / Re: Opera Dragonfly

actually i find opera is the best browser to develop on, as when i develop on firefox it screws up IE way more than opera, but when i'm on opera it looks fine on firefox and just slightly bad on IE.

General Software Discussion / Re: Opera Dragonfly
« Last post by justice on April 24, 2008, 04:07 PM »
With the launch of Opera 9.5 beta 2, the pieces are now in place to announce our next product – Opera Dragonfly. The product team has been hard at work on this release since last year and it is just about ready to leave the labs.

Opera has always strictly followed Web standards, and prides itself on giving Web developers and designers the latest standards to advance the state of the art on the Web.

Our Focus on Web Standards

The latest release of our rendering engine – Presto Core-2.1 – is a culmination of our standards commitment and will be found in Opera 9.5 on various platforms and devices.  Our improved standards support now includes full CSS selectors, HSL, text-shadow, JavaScript 1.5 getters and setters, HTML5 getElementsByClassName, improved Canvas support, and much more.

Opera’s support for standards is further demonstrated by <http://dev.opera.com>, our Web development tutorial site. In addition, Opera’s Open the Web initiative focuses on making the Web a more standards-compliant place by giving developers hands-on help and support with their work.

The Dragonfly Is About To Land

But there was something missing. Opera has—until now—lacked one important piece of the jigsaw, but this missing piece is being added as you read. We are proud to announce Opera’s all-new developer tool — Opera Dragonfly. With Opera Dragonfly’s alpha release on the 6th of May, 2008, developers will have an array of new tools to debug Web sites and applications from within the Opera Browser.

Opera Dragonfly’s alpha release is still under active development as it matures to become ready for beta and final releases. We want your feedback and feature requests for the initial alpha release to make sure it fits your needs and makes your work easier. Over the coming months and years, we will continually develop Opera Dragonfly to realize our vision of first-class developer tools, and add even further functionality to the product. The alpha release is a first snapshot and foundation for that vision.

Opera Dragonfly will be available on the 6th of May at <http://dragonfly.opera.com>.

Regards,

Opera

This is not related to FARR itself but to the writing plugins with javascript bit.

General Software Discussion / Re: My foxes are not on fire. Any HELP?
« Last post by justice on April 18, 2008, 05:53 AM »
From the first line it seems the "session history" has a problem, I take it this is the "history" of browsed websites? If so, Firefox is not the problem but your profile you use with it is.

Did you use the same profile for both Firefox 2 and 3 (if you're not sure the answer is probably yes). Start Firefox with the -ProfileManager parameter, follow the instructions to create a new profile and start firefox then choose the new profile and see if everything is ok. If that works you should look at migrating your settings over to the new profile or look for a profile-fixer program (if there is any)

There bottom errors seem to be firefox saying it's unable to setup your hotkeys in the interface. This contradicts my theory that it is a profile problem. When you uninstall firefox you keep all your settings so if you haven't tried that removing all firefoxes and reinstalling one of them might help you out too.

Might not be that though but hopefully gave you some idea about what's going on.

I think it's going to be good, but should I be worried that the "good coding encyclopedia" is in the hands of a company?

Post New Requests Here / Re: DONE: MiniMe (aka MaxiMe)
« Last post by justice on April 10, 2008, 03:29 AM »
If you still have the problem please PM me and we can work it out i'm sure.

I'm thinking of updating this script. However I have ditched Minimizer as it doesn't play nice with all programs and causes high CPU usage in certain cases which is a nono for a utility program. So was thinking of the following, but would like your ideas:

  • incorporate code suggestions in this thread
  • write / read hotkeys to .ini
  • ability change hotkeys using gui
  • option to hide active window instead of minimizing it (new default) and add this window to a window list
  • double right-alt to show list of all hidden windows > click on one to show them.
So what I'm trying to do is make it easier for people to adjust the hotkeys and also to replace minimizer. Instead of minmizing windows (althought that will still be supported) to a cluttered taskbar i want to hide the window to a menu that can be recalled easily (don't want to clutter my system tray either).

No problems now with the tray tip by the way, I had more problems that session but a restart fixed it. Also this would be a good progrma to add to a barnacle toolbar if you're using that.

Personally, I associate fanboy reviews with deluded or unbalanced reviews, i don't think this should  be confused with opinionated? You can write an opinionated balanced fair review.

Sounds like you wanted it to look like some other filemanager? I'd suggest giving it a go and trying it on its own merits. I think good software makes it clear how it should best be used instead of offering unlimited customations and no guidance. :)

Finished Programs / Re: Get Filepath
« Last post by justice on April 08, 2008, 06:51 AM »
Nice work Lanux be sure to add a shorcut to GetFilePath.exe to your SendTo folder (start -> run -> sendto OR start -> shell:sendto) for it to be availalble in nearly any application. For some reason the traytip is not showing for me on vista (but there's no fault in your code so I assume a restart will fix that for me)

I was adding in automatic drive mapping for UNC but got stuck and had to give up. It's easy to detect if the first two characters are \\ and you can run the command "net use * %filepath%" to map to a available drive. However I'm not sure how to retrieve the output of net use, take the 2nd word from the 1st line (which is the drive letter) to form the new filepath string.

Edit: Success! added UNC mapping., the folder in which the file resides is automatically mapped to a driveletter.

It must be too early in the morning for me. Thanks jgpaiva
Have to explore if it's possible to add aliases to dcupdater then.
1048
Ok so I found the plugins page at https://www.donation...user/findrun/addons/
But there is no alias page is there?
1049
Not sure if this has been discussed before..
Now that Farr2 has quite a few plugins and aliases and so many customizations it can take a while to set up a fresh installation to the way you want. It would be great if there was an official FARR Complete which included FARR + all stable plugins and chosen user aliases. This would add a lot of functionality out of the box and could maybe be periodically maintained. A bit like a point release of a linux distro, you can check for newer versions of plugins yourself or wait until a slightly more tested farr complete becomes available.

This would add quite a lot of work in discussing which plugins /aliases should be included and some time testing the bundle as well as writing up some documentation. So that might not be possible but I think the convenience of having a bundle would be something that might position FARR as a viable choice for more people.

Alternatively a central list could be created with known aliases / plugins as AFAIK finding all options currently requires us to search the farr forum?
Waddaya think?

Would be good if it could export the registry entries as registry entries. Useful utility good find!
