Wow. This is awesome!-bababooey (October 26, 2014, 04:00 PM)
I actually thought I had posted that one in my personal area and not in living room haha, no wonder I couldn't find it-Stephen66515 (September 13, 2014, 03:17 PM)
Aha... so someone can post to the forum directly from My Personal Area? Interesting.-crabby3 (October 26, 2014, 01:24 PM)
No. One must copy and paste from Personal Area in order to move it to a live forum section.
I have a tendency to have a lot of DC tabs open at any one time and sometimes multiple "New Topic" tabs for mocking up posts before making them, and sometimes I don't realize I have posted something live that should have been a test post.-Stephen66515 (October 26, 2014, 01:27 PM)
Okay... thanks. In my early days at DC I (thought) I was in My Personal Area when I clicked post but sent it to the forum and the wrong thread instead.
Just so I understand: If I'm in MPA and click post... it will come up looking like a forum post but stay in MPA?-crabby3 (October 26, 2014, 01:41 PM)
Yes. The Personal Area is a private area ONLY you can see. - It looks and feels like the public forum sections, but nobody else can see in there.
If you want to move something from that area to a public section, then you can do so by copy/paste method, or by speaking to mouser and asking him to move it for you.
You can contact mouser via PM | E-Mail | or Visit us in the Live Chat Room-Stephen66515 (October 26, 2014, 01:48 PM)
Again thank you very much for a clear and informative reply. It wasn't about what I said that made me want to remove it...-Stephen66515 (September 13, 2014, 05:39 PM)
This thread has peaked my curiosity. Can you say what it was about... maybe a PM? Silly Topic Allotment?-crabby3 (October 26, 2014, 02:18 PM)

App said the bit about DC 2.0 for a reason. Seems like if anything could muster the troops, it would be that. And with such a dated look, it should be that. But... here we are.-wraith808 (October 25, 2014, 10:02 PM)
We might accomplish DoCo 2.0, or perhaps not.
We'd probably accomplish too many opinions, too much discussing, and no actual decisions that are actionable by anyone. Comparable to the development of any of a number of famous vaporware projects.
In a nutshell, we'd have to bring in an outside project manager, highly experienced in dealing with large groups of fiercely independent personalities, to have any hope of getting the project off the ground. Otherwise, we will just all run around doing our own thing, waiting for someone to tell us what needs to be done and what our part in it will be.
I am sorry that I am not kidding. Just being realistic.-app103 (October 25, 2014, 07:32 PM)
I occasionally have the unrealistic fantasy that groups like this one can put together a project that would provide incomes for the members who participate. Sort of like using our talents/passions/skills to free us from perhaps our normal methods of making a living, which may be less than satisfying. But these kinds of ideas never seem to really take off, and instead turn into soon to be abandoned open source projects.
I would be very interested if any such project was able to generate additional income for participants in a good way.-superboyac (October 25, 2014, 08:18 PM)

No worries on this one -
it might pass under the radar :-D-tomos (October 25, 2014, 05:14 PM)
Is this really DC material?
Lets face it, you know that half of those topics will end up in the basement (which makes about six sensitive topics in one thred).

It means there is no attack or malware hosted on or coming from DonationCoder.
It could mean that you just happened to see these alerts while you happened to be browsing the DonatinCoder forum.
--
Another thing to check is if this alert pops up when you view certain posts on the forum -- it's always possible that someone has a photo in their signature or in a post that is linking to another site and that that site is pinging your machine when you load it.-mouser (October 24, 2014, 01:07 PM)
'I'm not clear what you are saying...' you're not hosting if it's a photo or link here?
I will keep track of where i see it and what tabs are open.-crabby3 (October 24, 2014, 01:26 PM)
Some user avatars are hosted on external servers for which DC has no control over (Like mine...it is hosted on Imgur.com and NOT DC). Linking & Hotlinking are NOT the same as Hosting.
After checking the IP addresses above, I came up with the following:
80.82.78.166 - Takes to a website which just has the text "Oh hi there" - The IP is hosted by the ISP: Ecatel LTD
89.248.168.46 - Resolves to offshore20.tronichost.com - Also hosted by the ISP: Ecatel LTD - However, when checking the website for content, the resolution link takes to a "This website may be for sale" and the IP takes you to an Apache2 Test Page.
Neither of these IPs are connected or affiliated with DonationCoder.com AT ALL.-Stephen66515 (October 24, 2014, 06:26 PM)
Thank you for your very clear explaination. It was my understanding that hosting meant providing links. Some user avatars are hosted on external servers for which DC has no control over (Like mine...it is hosted on Imgur.com and NOT DC).
So if the Imgur servers go down... your Batsman disappears? Bummer. But i understand what you're saying.Neither of these IPs are connected or affiliated with DonationCoder.com AT ALL.
I didn't think these IP's were affiliated with DC. More like a member trying to disrupt things and make it unfriendly here.

This past Wednesday was the first time MBAM blocked anything here. What changed? What's different? The only thing i could think of was DC membership.-crabby3 (October 25, 2014, 09:49 AM)
Other things we could use to make this year's event special:
We have a standard mug design we tend to use, but it's always great if we can get an optional alternative design or two. If you have artistic talents, we'd love to have some more mug designs that look different. The resolution should be 1662x600.
Here's the standard design to show you the size and basic information on the mugs: (see attachment in previous post)Some alternatives: (see attachment in previous post) (see attachment in previous post)
Ideally, any mug design should have a prominent role for Cody, our bird/duck mascot.-mouser (October 08, 2014, 05:07 AM)
Magic Leap on Tuesday announced that Google was the lead investor in a US$542 million round of Series B funding for its secret endeavors.
Also participating in the financing round were Qualcomm, Legendary Entertainment, KKR, Vulcan Capital, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Andreessen Horowitz and Obvious Ventures.
Sundar Pichai, senior vice president of Android, Chrome and apps at Google, will join Magic Leap's board of directors. Paul Jacobs, executive chairman at Qualcomm, and Don Harrison, vice president of corporate development at Google, will join the board as observers.
"Magic Leap is going beyond the current perception of mobile computing, augmented reality and virtual reality," said Rony Abovitz, Magic Leap's president, CEO and founder. "We will revolutionize the way people communicate, purchase, learn, share and play."
Magic Leap is valued at just under $2 billion, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Calculate Linux has a rather interesting strategy for desktop environments. It is characterized by two flavors with the same look and feel. That does not mean that the inherent functionality of the KDE and Xfce desktops are compromised. Rather, the Calculate Linux developers did what you seldom see within a Linux distribution with more than one desktop option: They unified the design.
The third in a series of four simulated missions to Mars planned by NASA kicked off last week at a remote site on the Hawaiian island of Mauna Loa.
A six-person team, comprising the Hawai'i Space Exploration Analog and Simulation 3 mission, is inhabiting a dome for an eight-month study of the human factors that contribute to astronaut crew function and performance over time.
Some 40% of adults have experienced online harassment, according to a study from the US Pew Research Internet Project.
From name-calling to other threats, harassment is a common part of online life for many, its research suggests.
While men are more likely to experience name-calling, women are more vulnerable to sexual harassment and stalking.
The report comes amid a rise in social media abuse aimed at women in the games industry.
The report found that 73% of American adult internet users had witnessed online harassment - from being called offensive names to witnessing someone being stalked online.
It found that young adults - aged 18-29 - are most likely to experience online harassment, with 65% of internet users in this age group claiming to have fallen victim.
The vast majority of harassment took place on social networking sites, according to the research.
Historical audio from Nasa missions has been uploaded to a free sound library.
More than 60 samples have been added to the agency's new dedicated Soundcloud account, but listeners are unable to leave comments underneath the files.
Astronaut communications, including "Houston, we've had a problem" and "the Eagle has landed", can be heard - as well as some more abstract noises made by working spacecraft and debris.
In space itself, sound is unable to travel as there is no air.
