General Software Discussion / Re: Looking for an image viewer that...

I'd recommend Imagine - http://www.nyam.pe.kr/dev/imagine/ - portable and you can set up shortcuts to your liking, works great as plugin for Lister (total commander built-in viewer) as well - but it a standalone program (so TC is not required). My 2cts.

that's an interesting suggestion:
I've never been happy with any filemanager's image viewer that I've tried.** And I mostly want a filemanager as opposed to any of the image viewers etc. I mean I want the flexibility of a good filemanager, along with the direct connection to the viewer e.g. want the viewer to follow the sort, etc. as shown in manager.

** Dopus is the best of those I know.

ExifPro ticks all those boxes here.
I see it has gone open-source --

I dont see any straight-forward download for windows there though (?)

You need to set the text/UI scale to 200% but then you're back at 1080p again, so what's the point?
You're just changing the text size, and not the resolution:
so the point is still the higher resolution / definition, better quality visuals.

Edit// I presume you understand that, and are just saying you don't need the higher resolution (?)

Wondering to what percentage you increased the font-size in windows?

(FWIW I would worry that a lot of software just doesnt cater to that resolution...)

SOLVED!!!: I opened up CH+S on my laptop, saw the hotkey for Show/Hide CHS Window is <CTRL><ALT><W>.  CH+S popped right up.  Hope this helps someone.

did the taskbar icon then display correctly?

Amazon wants a key to your house. I did it. I regretted it

that was interesting. Problems were letting other people get access (Amazon would claim security, author sees monopoly attempt), and the lock not working (Amazon says startup problems).

Possibly vaguely related:

I tried PDFXchange a couple of years ago, and found no shortcuts for getting various views of a page. Adobe Reader isn't super in that direction, but does have
  • Ctrl+1 for page width
  • Ctrl+3 for content width (margins removed from view)
  • Alt+LeftArrow for previous 'view'
  • and still mainly supports mouse zoom: Ctrl+Spacebar[+Alt] Click and drag for zooming in and out
It no longer uses Ctrl+0 to show full page (edit// I may be wrong there but pretty sure they had that as the full-page view shortcut)

But, certainly in the past, none of the aternatives gave much keyboard support for view/zoom-level

A quick post related to Deep Mind AI Alpha Zero
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AlphaZero

I know next to nothing about it, but there was a match between the Stockfish engine and Alpha Zero. What's very interesting about it is that Alpha Zero seems to be a lot more creative than Stockfish -- leading to speculation that the whole 'engine' style of chess play is maybe not the right way (and leads to a lot of draws).

Here a couple of videos about one game:

Another thing could be the folder used for screenshots: whether that was changed; whether you have different types of files in that folder (seems to have been a problem in the past).

a couple of questions:

  • Is it portable or installed SC?
  • If portable where is it -- could it be in a folder that it cannot write to?
  • Did anything change 10 months ago when the problem started?

^ thanks for that post Deozaan.
It's odd how it's been increasing so much in price in the last while. I've always been hoping that something really creative was happening, or going to happen, with Bitcoin. Seems to me like it might 'simply' be people-relations that are getting in the way of that.

General Software Discussion / Re: Downloadable Office trial
« Last post by tomos on December 05, 2017, 07:01 AM »
did find this (below) and I can confirm that it worked a treat when I downloaded and installed it on a friend's laptop a few weeks back:

Office Professional Plus 2016 For $30
hmm, I'd be wary of that:
1) presumably an OEM key (which can be fine, but tied to your hardware)
2) I quote from the comments:
Lee B2 months ago [reply to Kyle K]
Britec09 That's not always the case. Fake/ripped off keys can activate easily and then become blocked later on. I've experienced this myself. They often use ripped off MSDN or OEM_DM keys and pass them off as retail. These get blocked if they're flagged as being abused by a huge number of installations.

I once bought what I thought was a legit retail version of Windows 8.1 Pro from a site. The packaging looked authentic at the time, because I didn't really know much about fake software then. Activated fine - then 8 months later my Windows showed a message saying I was no longer activated and the key was blocked from being used when I tried again. Checked in slmgr and the key did show as an OEM_DM key. Spoke to MS support and it turned out to be a manufacturer key (not a retail key), which they had been selling with the fake software to loads of people. They said it wasn't a key I would receive with an authentic Retail version of Windows as slmgr would show RETAIL in the output.

I looked into it a little more and noticed little things which gave the packaging and discs away to be a fake. Now I can spot fake packaging easily.

I'd be wary buying keys from these CDKey sites, especially at that price for Professional Plus. Not saying all sites are selling dodgy keys, but it can happen. And that price for Office Pro Plus seems a little too good to be true for me. :/ I only buy software from sites I know are legit now.
Just because it activates, doesn't necessarily mean that it can't/won't be blocked later.

@IainB & Shades, much of what you write reminds me of Cesar Millan (who is unfortunately also called 'The Dog Whisperer') and his approach. This video a bit long, but explains his ideas:

Image editors here respect/recognise SC's dpi setting. Which again makes me think it's a problem with Excel -- and high resolution monitors -- possibly to do with fonts etc being show at higher percentage (than 100%).

It's possible a search in that direction might find something helpful.

General Software Discussion / Re: Chrome on Windows Phone
« Last post by tomos on November 30, 2017, 06:37 PM »
Preferably looking for something that someone has tried/knows will work.
can't recommend anything.

A search found this:
https://www.quora.co...-on-my-windows-phone
a 2016 recommendation for 'Coc Coc Browser' 'based on Chromium'.

I have/use a Win.8 phone, in the Windows Store I find 'Coc Browser' with 5 ratings :-/

A search for Chrome [in Win phone Store] does find a bunch of browsers, but none of them actually acknowledge Chrome, nor Chromium.
Surfy Browser 4.5 stars - 1646 ratings
UC Browser 4 stars - 5376 ratings

Any further thoughts/suggestions on this?
I just skimmed the thread:
have you tried pasting images from other sources into excel ?
e.g. take a screenshot using the OS and paste that into Excel -- if you have the same problem, them problem is presumably at the Excel end of things. (you dont have to take the whole screen, let's see, have a look here if you need: https://www.howtogee...shots-in-windows-10/)

JGPaiva's GridMove and Ahk Tools / Re: Error while switching grid with keyboard
« Last post by tomos on November 29, 2017, 05:09 AM »
GridMove only lets me switch between the first two grids when I press 'n'. How do you fix it so that it switches between all of them?
more info please!
e.g.
did it work before?
how many grids in your grids folder?
EDIT// @sawyeric did you try the solution already offered in this thread?//EDIT

I see mine only goes through four grids (Win+G =>n) in spite of there being ten in the 'Grids' folder. Hmm - never really noticed before because they the ones I use.
EDIT//=> this due to Grids listed in Options>Set grid order//EDIT
Gridmove 1.19.62
