Multi Photo Quotes / Re: Add video panels to MultiPhotoQuotes?
« Last post by mouser on February 14, 2013, 12:27 AM »
Support now added for showing random frames from video files; try the beta (just exe so overwrite your existing exe with this one):
https://www.donation...MultiPhotoQuotes.zip

Just put your video files (avi, mpg, wmv) in with your images and MPQ will treat them exactly as if they were images, showing random frames.  All options about cropping, stretching, aspect ratios, etc., all apply as normal.

NOTE 1: MPQ will not play the video so you won't see any motion -- it's just showing random frames from the videos.
NOTE 2: There should be no problem using large gigabyte sized files.

Multi Photo Quotes / Re: Pictures shown twice or more at the same time
« Last post by mouser on February 13, 2013, 10:45 PM »
Please try this new test version (note it's only exe not setup, so replace your current exe with this one):
https://www.donation...MultiPhotoQuotes.zip

It was a bit trickier than you might expect, both because of all the different ways images can get into MPQ (from different directories, from quote books, etc.), but also because MPQ sometimes tries an image out in one cell and then has to reject it if others wont fit in other cells..

SO.. let's see if i got it right.  Let me know.

Note: Not only will this version avoid repeating images on a single screen, it will also avoid repeating images between displays.. SO if you have 1000 images, you shouldn't see it repeating as it cycles (it will repeat after the program exits and restarts, or after screensaver wakes up and restarts).

Web Link Captor / Re: Web Link Captor is occasionally useful!
« Last post by mouser on February 13, 2013, 07:48 PM »
Used it again in this thread: https://www.donation...ndex.php?topic=34007

I wonder if there is a simple way I could add image fetching and displaying to Web Link Captor.. It could add another 1% of usefulness to the program.  The problem isn't so much finding images, or even downloading i suppose.. the problem lies more with how useful it could make the final output for sharing..

That is, the whole point of WLC is to produce something that you could share on a forum or web page, etc.  So even if it downloaded a ton of images it's not clear how it should make those available for final output.

I suppose there might be some value in some simplest version which just gave you a list of urls to images for you to manually LINK to with IMG tags or download manually..

Any ideas?

Frailty
Pontypool
Winter's Bone

ps. I used my Web Link Captor (disccussion thread here) program to search for and find IMDB links for entries for me, and automatically build me the bbcode to paste in my post.  Finally I found a perfect use for that program.. (perfect except for it doesn't attach photos).

Is anyone here interested in (and qualified for) doing a serious look and comparison of the internals of various CMS systems?

I'm more interested in examining and comparing the various ways that the different CMS systems structure their databases -- manage users, groups, permissions, content, profile information, etc.

Anyone interested in such a thing?

I've been working off an on on a large project to build a cms-like system (YUMPS), and i've decided to take a bit of a step back and survey how different CMS systems handle these kinds of issues, in an attempt to make something that is as good as it can be.

I was thinking maybe someone might want to join me in surveying the state of the art solutions, and then possibly starting from scratch.

I've been rethinking my approach to YUMPS and am considering taking a step back and focusing more on describing the system from a pure database api, language neutral standpoint.

I know it's a long shot but I thought I would ask if anyone here might be interested in such a project.

Find And Run Robot / Re: please help problem with FARR on Win8
« Last post by mouser on February 13, 2013, 08:46 AM »
Why is it ok to put *.ini files into the Program Files/install directory which need to be written to

It's not.

You can't/shouldn't put any files that the application needs to be able to write to in the Program Files\ tree.
So FARR's settings file (FindAndRunRobot.ini) also will be saved to your documents area, etc.

If you are referring to the ConfigDir.ini file -- well I could have called that anything -- it's not edited by the program but only by you the administrator, so that's ok.

Would the portable version use the FARR folder by default mouser?

YES, if you download and run the portable version it comes with a ConfigDir.ini file that does exactly that -- tells farr to save everything in the current directory its running from.  Which means you better make sure you put it someplace where it has that permission.

Hi Skrell.

Ok by default on windows 7+8, FARR (and all of my apps) will store their config files in the user Documents folders (should be My Documents\DonationCoder\FindAndRunRobot\and so on).

It no longer legal for programs to store their files in the Program Files directory.

However, with FARR you can customize where you want the files to be stored by editing the ConfigDir.ini file inside the FARR program files directory.  Just remember you need to point it someplace that FARR has permission to write.

Let me know if that helps.

I've recently rewatched some of my favorite lesser known movies, and I love them so much.  I thought we should have a thread about our favorite movies.

I'll start with two that I think are very special.

btw tomos i did find a couple places where it was going to save the file temporarily without the paint in the thumbnail -- mostly when launching external tools on the file.  that should be fixed now.

Thanks for all the testing and reporting tomos!

New version up (same url); added a flood fill mode to freehand painting -- note that it floods within freehand paint lines only -- it doesn't pay any attention to contents of screenshot image.

The flood fill mode can be useful for two purposes:
  • First, it can be useful to draw a freehand box or circle around some area and then fill it with an interior color (like Yellow); especially useful when using transparency or PaintMode Multiply which lets black text shine through.
  • Second, it can be a quick way to change the color or existing freehand painting.

Example:

I'm troubled by your experience of it not saving or not showing in thumbnail.. it should.

As far "you can save and come back":
The freehand painting is saved on a separate layer.  If you do some freehand painting, save the file, then come back to it later, when you click on freehand paint tool again, you can click the button to erase all freehand painting from before, or use the Eraser mode to erase some and re-show the original.

That sure brings back some memories.. I played Adventure/Collossal Cave(?) in the 1970s via dial-up to my father's university mainframe.  Those were the days.  I still have words burned into my brain from those days (Plugh, xyzzy).

Proper ctrl+z undo doesn't work yet.
But, you can save and come back to a file and clear or erase any freehand painting.

For an interesting effect, draw some freehand text and then hit the Shadow button before you leave freehand mode.
