thanks for the update Nod5,
how are you finding it - or have you had a chance to try out the update?

You used use the Advanced Disk Catalog before ?
How do they compare (if you have the time for a comment or two )

I know the Advanced Disk Catalog hasnt been updated since 2004 & isnt available at it's website (I added a link for tucows) so that's obviously a factor...

[edit] major rewrite - I got Advanced Disk Catalog and Advanced FTP & Disc Cataolger confused - whodathunkit

with this plugin installed, when I open my programme of choice, FARR stays open - but goes to the back of any open windows
FARR + EV plugin work perfectly when the GS plugin isnt installed
GoogleSuggest works on it's own
So the problem is with "EV" (but only in conjunction with) and "GS" when they both loaded

Almost relieved I'm not alone!
Actually it is also happening (sometimes at least) with just the EV plugin (even though it worked okay initially when I was testing it that way )
Going to try with just the GS plugin for the next while...

you can delete it if its not in use, doesnt matter. it's just a file created by the database engine signifying to any other programs that the clip database is in use.

dbisam.lck  date=2007.09.19 size=29bytes

it's being used by CH&S
the nearest match I could find was this thread - is it best to leave the file, or is it rubbish?

I updated my SQL with the latest build, then I opened up my transcript grid and the information is not showing and I'm getting the following message: (see attachment in previous post)
As far as I can tell, I have the correct filters and everything shown.  In fact, I didn't change anything from the last time I had it working, so I don't know what I did.

Busted! You're right - the Scansoft option was to embed non-standard fonts. My document only contains Times New Roman. Switching to "embed all fonts" in Scansoft results in a 123kb file. I owe SoftMaker an apology

so Texttmaker make one almost half the size of Scansofts! - that's probably due to the "Embed only used characters" option

... File without fonts embedded is readable except for the following # it can handle é but not ´ * # it cant handle ' a single apostrophe like would normally be used in Tom's or in some surnames e.g. O'Connor # it cant handle euro symbol €

(they blamed Adobe - who probably dont help but werent the problem here)
it probably is safer to embed fonts but it's always nice to have options...

* for some reason they normally use ´ (as in é without the e) instead of apostrophe here in Germany - I think because the apostrophe isnt natively used

I've screwed things up

discovered the sort bar, dragged two columns in there to sort by (inbox and..?)
then I (without thinking) right clicked these (in sort bar) and clicked hide columns & cant get them to show

ahhh, if I right click a column heading, select "displayed columns" I can choose them there
(BTW while that dialogue box is open the programme doesnt show in Alt-Tab)

I was making the mistake of selecting Manage Fields from same to try show columns 

or toggle the filter (left of the filter edit box)

Figured that - just remove the "and ( done is null  or int(now) - done < 5)" from the end..

the inbox data can be displayed in more than 1 grid. You could for example decide to show the inbox items along with other items in the ToDos grid (add " OR Inbox" to the source and perhaps to the filter)

ehh, I'm learning about SQL since trying to implement this (showing inbox in a different grid) but havent been sucessful so far, the filter bar has disappeared (since adding the daily release I think) I can only find date filter in menu..
added "or inbox" to source (of ToDo Grid), no difference,
added column called inbox but that just shows as tick-box after current entries

Got it I think - show Source bar. hmmm
filter says:-

FollowUp or ((( ToDo < now + 15 ) and due is null ) or urgency >= -7 or (due-now<6)) and ( done is null  or int(now) - done < 5)

can I add it there somehow?

Well... SoftMaker TextMaker (rev. 482) exported a 63kb, 4 page, Word Document to a pdf that is 134kb in size. This is with the "embed only embedable font"s setting applied and at Low (96dpi) quality with auto table of contents generated. I printed the same file from within SoftMaker to Scansoft PDF Creator at medium quality with embed fonts enabled and it produced a pdf of just 16kb in size (complete with TOC). So... the current SoftMaker revision is better than it was, but far from optimized.

you sure Scansoft is embedding those fonts thats incredibly small, mind you I usually make PDFs with more than one font. The quality usually only effects graphics (I think)

[edit] I think the 134kb file size would be similar to OpenOffice/Nova PDF going by my test files here

well, with version 482 it works okay as long as you embed fonts and select "Embed only used characters"
as said in post #9 I had some problems with obscure characters when fonts arent embedded

As part of the GTD implementation, new quick Add Item form is now available. CTRL-N to open it. A system-wide shortcut is also available to open it from anywhere (CTRL-ALT-N): (see attachment in previous post)You can enter item text, decide into which folder to put it in (normally, the inbox) and put a due date if required

Plus... now you can show/hide an HTML box. SQLNotes can now much more easily be used as a web-clipping tool:

• browse to a web page
  
• Select some text
  
• copy (right-click or CTRL-C)
  
• CTRL-ALT-N (will open the above form)
  
• paste (right-click or CTRL-V)
  
• click Add Item (or Alt-A). An item has been created with your clipping, put in the inbox, ready for you to file it appropriately later-on
  
• focus is then restored to the browser (or whereever you were before hitting the hot-key.

Attention all... I created a Wikipedia page to explain what SQLNotes is. The page is not very different from pages of numerous other software.

However for some reason (I know very little about Wikipedia rules/regulations), it has been marked as proposed for deletions in 3 days. One reason given is that only one person contributed... hence the appeal to all to add to the page. Thanks.
