General Software Discussion / Re: MHTML support in Firefox
« Last post by Armando on July 23, 2008, 05:12 PM »
the only problem I got (but easily fixed) : conflict with an IETab setting.

Delete the following Site filter from IETab.
/^file:\/\/\/.*\.(mht|mhtml)$/

(from the Known Problems at http://www.unmht.org/unmht/en_index.html)

Apart from that, works rather well! I can now display MHT in firefox instead of IE, which is great (... I don't use thunderbird...).

Nice tip. Thanks Justice!

Very nice plugin!! Wow.

Is it possible to specify the maximum number of results (right now it's set to 8, if I'm not mistaken)

WriteMonkey is quirky and cool. I just spent 10min typing absolute gibberish just to hear the typewriter sounds! Its software with 'personality', I can easily imagine it being on the Mac.

I'm not a writer, but I can't imagine being more productive in it for writing a book than any modern word processor.

Fun. I'm downloading it!

The article at Lifehack Dropbox: A Simple Syncing Solution triggered my curiosity about dropbox again... And I ended up here. Anybody still using and enjoying it?

The interface looks nice and quite convenient. (Of course, in my case, I don't think I could really use such a tool -- my ISP upload/download limit is a bit too small, well maybe not actually, will have to calculate...  :) )

I'm going to build my own website soon too. All this is very informative.

Along the same lines as Mnemosyne, Anki http://ichi2.net/anki/  I think one is based on the other, not sure which way.  Anki has a few more ways to display content (pictures, sound files, etc).  I tried both, they both work well.

Thanks Kevin!
Looks nice.
Will install it next weekend...

A big part of the positive energy is created by you jgpiava, and others like you, who make this place so nice.

I really really agree.  :-*

AutoHotkey.chm is your friend. :)

Yes, thanks Lanux.
I must confess that I always have trouble searching these chm files... especially in that case where I was looking for the word "bracket"... and the word "braces" was the one to look for... English, English... :-[

don't you use ` (same key as the tilde for me)

I don't think these work in hotstrings.
1014
Some precisions, found elsewhere (the "braces" trick was found on lifehacker in a different context):

- If one is using the send command (instead of the common hotstring syntax), one could also use sendraw (or {Raw}, as the first item of the string):

Raw mode: The SendRaw command sends the keystrokes exactly as they appear rather than translating {Enter} to an ENTER keystroke, ^c to Control-C, etc. To use raw mode with SendInput, SendPlay, or SendEvent, write {Raw} as the first item in the string; for example: SendInput {Raw}abc

http://www.autohotke...cs/commands/Send.htm

AH! i finally found it. Always the case when  I ask the question...  :-[
Just wrap the symbols in curly brackets : { }
1016
I want use the "+" symbol in some of my hotstrings "expansions", but... as a "normal", literal character, not as a the usual symbol for "shift". What's the convention for that (eg : RegExp uses "\") ? (Oh, and if there's a web page -- other than the AHK WebSite -- where I can find that info... and other useful info). Thanks a lot!

I updated the current build with a fix for this issue. I did not have the time to test it throughly, but it now saves correctly in those problematic situations.

Works very well here!

With the recent problems with the SQLNotes web site (www.sqlnotes.net), due to hosting service SQL Server problems, I started looking at alternatives... and fell in love with Drupal (old site was using DNN).

Looks great.
Have a good weekend!

Just now, when it happened, I went back into the pane of the item where things got unexpectedly erased, and I pasted in some content again.  I went to another item, came back, and it was gone!  I did this many times, and it kept disappearing.  Then I clicked on "create new html document".  A prompt came up warning me that the current content will be erased.  Well, there was nothing there anyway, so I said ok.  I pasted in the same content again, switched out, came back, and it had disappeared again!  Eventually, I clicked around a lot, and I kept pasting in the content, and now it is in there and not disappearing.  But I don't really know what I did.

(Just came back from a loooong day out doing boring stuff.  :'( )

I've experienced the same problem yesterday. It might be a problem with one of the latest builds. I confess that I use mostly the MHT format though, so the problem might have been there for a while without me noticing it.

Pierre : it's a fairly severe problem. Stuff in the html pane doesn't get saved sometimes.  :(

1- Create a brand new data base
2- Open the inbox grid
3- Create a new item called "Test" (after the "Have lunch with Mary" item)
4- Write something in the html pane. Press CTRL-S.
5- change to the "Have lunch with Mary" item
6- Come back to the "Test" item : hmtl content is gone (well, here, in my case, it is...)

PS : superboyac : in the mean time, if your facing an emergency and if you don't mind, you could use mht. haven't had any problems with it, and this what I use everyday...

Thanks Curt. So it's a bit like a mindmap of your folder structure. Should be very useful for visual people.
I might try it for fun during the weekend.

the problem is if I need them very seldom, I cant figure out how to use them when I need them ...
For some people, it works best having all the options right in front of their eyes (even though those look REALLY ugly), while for others it's better to remember the keywords.

I share those views too.

I've always felt that if you couldn't figure out how to use the tools at your disposal, you didn't deserve to find what you were looking for.  If not for over-simplification for those not inclined to figure things out for themselves, the Internet would be a much bigger place.  It'd be more like DonationCoder and less like teh kidz chattin it up wit a/s/l and lolzors.

I for one, want the Internet to become harder to use!

Don't want to drift off-topic but... Why oh why should it be hard to use... Since when "hard to use" was a synonym for quality, performance, "better", etc.? I for one, want the internet to be as easy to use as possible, when possible. Which doesn't mean that it should be simplistic and without potential. But I just hate complexity for its own sake, like  errrr... Jean François Lyotard or Jacques Lacan's books.

I can certainly see how that the webpage mentioned above can be better for some. The original Google page couldn't be simpler to use, sure. But its function is certainly different. It's a BRU type of webpage -- ok, bad comparison.

The internet can/is already be that "bigger" place. There is room for everyone and everything, and IMO this is one great aspect of it.

That could be useful. (Right now I use GridMove andd my own ahk script to move farr around whenever I need to).
I find that farr in full screen looks really good. Especially the html stuff... and, oh well, files too : I love to have spacious display of all items.

Here's how it looks like on my desktop. It allows me to see a bit what's behind, and I have plenty of space in farr to work.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Request for ideas for html view mode size memory
« Last post by Armando on July 05, 2008, 06:37 PM »
With the new html view (and also somewhat with the richedit memo view), we have a slight dilemma with regard to the FARR window size; for normal FARR usage you typically want a pretty small window; for html view you usually need a bigger window.

I've added a few features to make working in html/memo mode a little easier:
First, FARR now remembers independently the size of the window in each different mode.  This goes a long way to making FARR usable in these different modes since you can have a large html view and a small results window.
Second, I've added a command that aliases and plugins can call to force the FARR window to be a specific size.

However, I'm thinking this may not be sufficient.  Are there going to be some html windows you want one size and others you need another size?  I'm trying to think what the best solution would be to this?  Is the ability to set window size from aliases good enought?

Or do we need some system for letting the user specify the desired window size on a per-plugin basis? or on a per-website url basis?  Other ideas?

These are great idea. I'd say that letting the user specify the desired window size on a per-plugin basis would probably be useful : some work on laptops with little screens, other on huge ones.

PS : In my case -- and from what you're saying it seems that I might be a bit of unique case -- my farr window is always set to full screen with slight transparency. Probably because I have a 15 inch screen... I love it this way. So HTML fits well in there, and file/program launching works great too.
