Mouser,

I'd say go for it. It looks like community sites will be all the craze in 2007. This site contains excellent content; it'd be stupid not to make enough money to pay rent while offering good content, while others pocket a lot of money for similar ideas but implemented in a 'me too' way. Also, the new cash could make for new features that benefit all the posters; it may help you think bigger.

Just my 2c.

Good arguments.  Man, this is a thorny problem.  My biggest problem is not that DC can use the money and that it would create growth revenue as urlwolf so eloquently cited.  Unfortunately, this need/opportunity does not nullify the reasons for my concern, in the first place.  The fact is the entity of Big "G" is an informational gathering entity.  Information is knowledge and knowledge is power.  Therefore, Google is power.  The question is "how" will that power be used?  I have gathered some data that is not very comforting.  Imagine "how" Hitler, etc. would have used such data?   Frankly, I am not sure I could remain associated with DC if Google was to be adopted.  I certainly have no right to tell Mouser what to do, but I feel it is a courtesy to him to let him know when I don't like something.  How else would he know?

farmsteader, one more thing:
you are a supporting member of this site.
the way we have it set up, supporting members by default never see any of the ads.  they are only shown to non-supporting members.  does that affect your views at all?

It would be appreciated, but it doesn't solve the problem.  On the other hand, I understand revenue is needed.  I appreciate your position, but I don't envy it.

What about a non-ad based search service?

Am  I the only one that recognizes that these are the embryonic steps which sets up future oppression?  The information on www.scroogle.org has some interesting things to take a look at.

I have some real issues with Big G, especially when they require the freedom to whatever they deem as appropriate (read the TOS).  Lord Acton recognized, "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely."  I have genuine concerns about "G"s lack of limits in requiring a free reign.

I have a license, a rather dusty license to Clickbook too.  Maybe it's time to pull it out of mothballs and see how it can dance. :)

I'm not sure that fellow is on target?  Unfortunately, we really do not know what Big "G" is intending to do?
1007
You are mistaken.  I am not "afraid" of Google.  I am greatly concerned what it could be used for *if* it was available to a dangerous statist entity.

I have to agree with Gothi[c].  I just can't feel warm and fuzzy about this move, but that is your call.
1009
There is a reason why Big G does what it does, but I am sure it is "proprietary" data.  ;)

The point here is there are many out there who don't like what they see Big G doing, especially when it is without any regard to other's "proprietary" data.

CYBERLAND SOUND ESCAPE!

Note to the reader...
This game and information was lost by my own error.  If it can be recovered, i.e, I discover a backup I don't know about, it will be uploaded and made available.  As a result the following information was copied from elsewhere.

This game is a radar/sonar audio game, with some interesting twists that make it a fun challenge to master. It features a fun science fiction back story that places you in a kind of electronic submarine world, where you must locate and navigate to a randomly placed target, while avoiding a predatory tracker that is trying to catch you. One of the pleasures of the game comes from the different kinds of sounds you have to learn to deal with simultaneously - delayed pings from radar boundries, simple proximity sensors, etc.

Ah!  my apologies, Gri.  I misunderstood what you meant.
You said it right... I read it wrong. :(
What I thought you were saying was you saw the forum framework,
but nothing else...
just blank white where the links should have been.
Hope my advice didn't waste your time.
As for me, it's been a good day... I learned something!

Why the strikethroughs?

I'll look forward to seeing it.  Sounds interesting.

First... I intend to create a gate that has a house motif.  Kids will be waving out of the windows, peering arond the edge and one will be waving from the roof (I have "one" like this!).

Second... <palms sweaty, heartbeat increasing, blood-pressure rising> I think I am going to try another pop at Delphi. <gulp>

Tinjaw, thanks for the boost.  As a matter of fact, I do have something I am applying this very method.  It has nothing to do with coding.

Nice work, Michelle!

Hey Tinjaw, I tried it and was able to get everything except the last little tiny asteroid and then (after a dozen bullseyes) I looked a littel closer and saw that it was an undetonated bomb?  At least I think that is what it was as it had the central sparkle like the other bombs I launched. Bug?  FYI - at one point in the flight I tapped as fast as I could (about 12-15 times a sec).  Could this have created the dud?

I don't know if you are looking for ideas at this stage...
  • As far as the asynchronous thrust, how about using a double-click or some other pattern to toggle left and right thrusters?
  • Related to the dud, I found I was able to clean out the asteroids by very rapid tapping; in fact the faster the rotation, the faster I was able to clear the asteroids.  You may wish to
    • set a limit to "prevent overheating" or to allow the "neutron generators" a chance to build up
    • set a limit of 10-20 rapid-fires,
    • or at least if you fire, say more than 3/sec the effectiveness lessens since the recharging would be  ineffective
    • perhaps a special "rotating docking station' for replenishment?  Once the rotation matched, the docking would "auto-dock?"
Maybe these might go into Ver.2.0, 3.0. etc....
Hope this helps!
