That' snot what I was thinking, but then again, I know booger all.

No need to mew 'cos you have your nose in the clouds, though it's a sorry tale. You'll just have to wing it.

we should stop this chit before we get into strife for derailing the thread
That would be nothing to sneeze at but it's a tissue of lies.

now you're rubbing me up the wrong way

I don't know if you can handle this but we've come full circle; it's time to make the rough places plain.

Are you sure that the plane was Legal?
I think they stuck to the letter of the law when it came to size, so it was probably fly paper.

Which means they'll have to learn Windows 8 by tile and error.

To sum up, Win8 will be a pane.

Unless they can swing a way to run Linux as an app — a sort of Metro Gnome.

Or is there another reason why they haven't videod the "flight".
It's not easy, tracing paper.

Those who suffered through those two fiascoes will know exactly what I mean.

No they won't, the poor devils still can't read!

These days the only people who gripe about the ribbons are people who never gave it an honest chance & are dead-set against change. Coincidentally, those people usually refuse to move away from the Classic Start Menu interface and/or are Linux users (Sorry, Zaine!).

If you put some time into re-learning the way the program works with the ribbon interface you will most assuredly have a bit of a hard time adapting, but once you have, you will find yourself accomplishing things faster than you could with the old 2003-style menus.

I beg to differ on that. I switched to MS Office 2007 when it first came out. I spent quite a bit of time working with the ribbon in the belief that it would be beneficial to me if I put some effort into it. From starting with an open mind, I've come to dislike it. Although I don't care for change for the sake of change I'm not unable to adapt, I'm required to do so all the time. I don't use Linux either :)

I started out hating it (as I did with W7). I have it both in a VM and on real hardware.
I can live with it if I have to and it's not that hard to make it behave as W7 does.

When it comes to tablets my guess is that it'd be quite good. There's no place for a tablet in my life, though (although I have one that came as a gift).

I'm pleased to see that some old but wickedly expensive DOS stuff, that matters a lot to me, runs fine on the 64-bit version using DosBox.

FARR > DoCo

Holy Moses! Did mouser invent those first-generation tablets?

The 60's were good — very good —  but during the Cuban missile crisis we were looking over our shoulders quite a bit. Most people living around London, England could tell you whether or not the fire storm would reach them if the capital were hit.

Hi,

Haha! I play games with telemarketers (and miscellaneous scum) all the time.

He:    "You are the virus. Now piss off and stop wasting my time and yours!"
hang up speaker phone, achieve high score in pinball game

Bad place for a typo. :P

Do you mean "He:" instead of "Him:"?  That was deliberate, "Mim:" didn't quite cut it ;)

Thanks for taking the trouble to write this up, and so comprehensively too!

Living Room / Moronic would-be scammers

I had one of those phone calls today from an "IT company" whose representative was most concerned about the virus that must be on my computer. Would I go to my computer so that he could help me?

I'm fed up with these jerks so,

Me:   "Oh no! Really, a problem with my computer?
I'll fire it up right away so that you can help me"
He:    "Take your time, sir "
Me:    "It's in another room, so hold on and I'll go there"
set down speaker phone, launch pinball game... 5 minutes elapse
He:    "Sir, are you there sir?"
Me:    "I'm on my way, I don't move very quickly"
He:    "Take your time, sir "
Me:    "Okay"
set down speaker phone, resume pinball game... 5 minutes elapse
He:    "Sir, are you there sir?"
Me:    "I'm at my computer, I'll start it up"
He:    "Take your time, sir "
Me:    "Okay"
set down speaker phone, resume pinball game... 5 minutes elapse
He:    "Sir, are you there sir?"
Me:    "It won't start, must be a virus, thank goodness you called"
He:    "Take your time, sir "
Me:    "Okay"
set down speaker phone, resume pinball game... 5 minutes elapse
He:    "Sir, are you there sir?"
Me:    "It still won't start, I'm working on it"
He:    "Take your time, sir "
Me:    "Okay"
set down speaker phone, resume pinball game... 5 minutes elapse
He:    "Sir, are you there sir?"
Me:    "What should I do, I'm still trying to start it?"
He:    "Take your time, sir "
Me:    "Okay"
set down speaker phone, resume pinball game... 5 minutes elapse
He:    "Sir, are you there sir?"
Me:    "Yes, I've found the virus!"
He:    "What do you mean?"
He:    "You are the virus. Now piss off and stop wasting my time and yours!"
hang up speaker phone, achieve high score in pinball game

Sigh...

"Yes," sighed the universe,
"you're Renegade, pissed"
