Living Room / Re: Graphics Designers - DOCO NEEDS YOU!
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on October 29, 2014, 06:57 PM »Bumping the thread so more people might see it!

This might be of interest:The WordPress project is testing out Slack as our main real-time communication platform, replacing IRC and ad hoc Skype chats. When compiling a list of things people liked about our existing options, it was obvious that Slack was all of that and more, including:
Open for everyone
Friendly user interface
Easy asynchronous conversation
iOS and Android apps
Powerful customization abilities
Excellent search
Wait, replaces IRC? Yes. WordPress has always used Freenode for its real-time communication, and we’re especially grateful for what Freenode and IRC have done for Free and Open Source Software projects.

You should make a DonationCoder slack team.
So I've noticed that when it's minimized to tray, if I double click or right-click and select "Show Main Window" it will make the window show up in the task bar, but it doesn't actually show the window until I click it in the task bar. So that's kind of useless.
Also, while it's in the state of still minimized but showing in the task bar, it also still shows it in the tray, which I think it should only do when it's minimized. Which... erm... I guess it is/does. So once you fix the first problem, this second one will also go away.
I'd also like to request a portable/zip/non-installer version.-Deozaan (October 29, 2014, 01:39 AM)
It would be nice if you could discover what was enabling the audio alerts before, since they are no longer working for me.-app103 (October 29, 2014, 03:15 AM)
I can work on it locally, then package the whole thing up, database & all, and then hand it over to mouser. It would then be up to him to use it or not. And if he chooses not to, do I then host it myself? Does etiquette say that's an acceptable thing to do? Or do I end up having to accept the idea that I just did a ton of work for nothing?-app103 (October 27, 2014, 08:55 PM)
What I mean is that it would be hard for someone without mouser's approval to make wholesale changes to the site. And this would be pretty much a wholesale change. He's also on the line as a pig, whereas we're all chickens. I try to always keep that in mind with anything for the site... I might disagree, but I'm not the one on the hook when it comes down to it.

Almost 3.5 years later and I am sitting here with the feeling that I should have just gone ahead and done it, and handed it to mouser. And it still bothers me enough that I am considering just doing it and calling it my NANY project for this year.-app103 (October 27, 2014, 09:51 AM)
Sounds like a plan! And why not?-40hz (October 27, 2014, 04:04 PM)
I can tell you why not... it's not her site. That's just one reason that I'd think of if it was me. But I think that's the big one that's been holding her back if you look between the lines.-wraith808 (October 27, 2014, 06:44 PM)
Overall, this is probably one of the most depressing threads I've read in a long time.
I'm not a coder. But I am a musician. And if musicians (as a collective) can routinely gather "fiercely independent personalities" (including the occasional hyper-talented albeit bona fide sociopath) to collaborate on artistically valid, and financially remunerative projects...I'm wondering why coders can't do the same?
Is this 'problem' real? Or is it just something coders have programmed themselves to believe?-40hz (October 26, 2014, 08:29 AM)
I wasn't speaking about developers in general. I was speaking about here and from experience.
Check the date on this post and read through that thread: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=25932.0
That thread was started after a discussion in the IRC channel, and mouser suggested I post about it and get some input from the community.
Almost 3.5 years later and I am sitting here with the feeling that I should have just gone ahead and done it, and handed it to mouser. And it still bothers me enough that I am considering just doing it and calling it my NANY project for this year.
And I don't care if it ends up only being used for a few months, or ultimately, a few years.
So, it's not that there isn't a desire to contribute, and not that we don't want to work together. Some of us are still waiting for their assignments, have sat by and watched someone else end up with the assignment they were best suited for, watched that person eventually abandon the project, and are getting the feeling that they are never going to be taken seriously, and are trying really hard not to take it personally and feel insulted by it.
Is that how big projects get done? Obviously not, if 3.5 years later we still don't have a DoCo 2.0 or at the very least, a proper software repository.-app103 (October 27, 2014, 09:51 AM)
While this may sound gimmicky, removing windows has the added benefit of weight reduction and would also simplify plane construction. It would also allow greater flexibility when designing the interior of the plane.

What? The windows on planes I've been on feel like some kind of plastic. How is replacing a bunch of windows with a couple huge displays and the wiring needed for them going to decrease weight?-Deozaan (October 27, 2014, 02:50 PM)
Windows, window frames, and bracing for the hole where the window goes would all be removed. Then the screen material (which would also be plastic) would replace the currently used interior walls...so yeah, I can see it dropping a bit.-Stoic Joker (October 27, 2014, 03:41 PM)
Bvckup is a handly little utility (less than 500kb in size) for backup up files to different drives/computers.
From what I can gather, it does not actually upload the entire file, each and every time you process it. Instead, it locates the changed data, and only uploads that portion of it to the original file, saving very large amounts of time on each upload.
Excellent question bernie. And good guess stephen -- but not quite correct. Who can guess (moderators not allowed to try), how the spammers were caught who didn't make a post (or even try to make a post)?lol, my lips are sealed..-mouser (October 26, 2014, 08:21 PM)-lanux128 (October 26, 2014, 11:54 PM)
I notice your numbers use commas instead of periods. Is this something that is REQUIRED or could we use the standard decimalization such as 46.60?-Stephen66515 (October 26, 2014, 04:55 PM)
Standard depends on the country.-Attronarch (October 26, 2014, 05:46 PM)

I don't get it. 468 messages deleted as spam by 700 spammers banned.
Does this mean that each spammer only created, on average, 0.668 of a spam?
How do you create a partial spam?-bernie (October 26, 2014, 04:43 PM)
I actually thought I had posted that one in my personal area and not in living room haha, no wonder I couldn't find it-Stephen66515 (September 13, 2014, 03:17 PM)
Aha... so someone can post to the forum directly from My Personal Area? Interesting.-crabby3 (October 26, 2014, 01:24 PM)
No. One must copy and paste from Personal Area in order to move it to a live forum section.
I have a tendency to have a lot of DC tabs open at any one time and sometimes multiple "New Topic" tabs for mocking up posts before making them, and sometimes I don't realize I have posted something live that should have been a test post.-Stephen66515 (October 26, 2014, 01:27 PM)
Okay... thanks. In my early days at DC I (thought) I was in My Personal Area when I clicked post but sent it to the forum and the wrong thread instead.
Just so I understand: If I'm in MPA and click post... it will come up looking like a forum post but stay in MPA?-crabby3 (October 26, 2014, 01:41 PM)
Yes. The Personal Area is a private area ONLY you can see. - It looks and feels like the public forum sections, but nobody else can see in there.
If you want to move something from that area to a public section, then you can do so by copy/paste method, or by speaking to mouser and asking him to move it for you.
You can contact mouser via PM | E-Mail | or Visit us in the Live Chat Room-Stephen66515 (October 26, 2014, 01:48 PM)
Again thank you very much for a clear and informative reply. It wasn't about what I said that made me want to remove it...-Stephen66515 (September 13, 2014, 05:39 PM)
This thread has peaked my curiosity. Can you say what it was about... maybe a PM? Silly Topic Allotment?-crabby3 (October 26, 2014, 02:18 PM)
I think I was messing around posting silly ASCII emoticons ((╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻)) or something of the sorts and obviously it meant nothing so mouser deleted it as it wasn't a "topic" haha-Stephen66515 (October 26, 2014, 02:30 PM)
