Find And Run Robot / Re: Match Alias First?
« Last post by jgpaiva on September 15, 2008, 04:55 PM »
Does increasing the score of the alias to something outrageous help?
1002
Actually, IIRC, opera only sends hashes of the URL.
And if that hash is a match for the hashes of phishing URLs, the browser is notified.
Thus, they can't really see which sites you're visiting, unless they are on their database.
1003
Actually, both ie and firefox have phishing protection, but firefox downloads a file with banned sites (every 30 minutes). IMO, that's a better way to do it, but I sure wouldn't stop using opera for this reason :)
1004
That's pretty simple :)
It's to prevent phishing. Everytime you open a site, opera sends the url to the opera servers, and if that site is reported in phishtank, opera displays a warning.

I believe that behaviour can be configured, but I can't remember where.

Living Room / Re: News Article: YouTube Bans Terrorist Videos
« Last post by jgpaiva on September 14, 2008, 08:57 AM »
I'm with f0dder, this could quickly end up in "censorship" of so many kinds. Also, it has been proven that the definition of "terrorism" isn't exactly absolute...
I'm not sure where I stand on this. But I might stand on the "this is wrong" field. After all, like the quote mentions, you only have to google for 10 minutes to find the material we're talking about.

Once I get the cash for a 1080p capable TV, I'll reconsider things... and the new format might actually have arrived then ;)
Actually, make it "once I get the cash for a HUGE 1080p capable tv, and cable tv support for it, etc etc".
Honestly, from what I read, I'm starting to think this whole thing is just bogus, since adding 1080p to a tv smaller than 40' (or something like that, not sure about the numbers) doesn't really make a difference, and most of the tv channels still are broadcasting in low definition.

Living Room / Re: Vuln. Alert: Malformed URLs Crash Acrobat 9
« Last post by jgpaiva on September 14, 2008, 08:43 AM »
Yeah, acrobat doesn't handle urls very well, and I hate the "adobe speedup", or whatever it's called.
But other than that, I agree with Josh, it's a great program, the best pdf reader I've tried - that's for sure.

Living Room / Re: News Article: On/Off Switch For RFID Cards
« Last post by jgpaiva on September 14, 2008, 06:40 AM »
Personal comment: Seems a little impractical to me, especially when you have the alternative of not using RFID at all staring you in the face.
You only have that option if you don't ride the underground (or any public transportation, for that matter) in larger cities. At least, that's how it works in Lisbon, the capital of my country. Still, I think it's impratical, as most people just have the card in their wallets, and this'd force them to bring the card out. I'm pretty sure this won't have much success, unless people start being seriously "ellectronically mugged" every day.

;D Well, I'd say this isn't very original, just by checking my spam section in gmail, I could get a few of thses, but promising "britney spears sex", "angelina jolie nude" and even nude pictures of myself!  ;D ;D
Honestly, these days, I'm not even sure if someone who is stupid enough to open one of those emails from someone who he doesn't know should have a computer at all..

My big dilemma: On what storage medium should I store my [long-term] data, since it's perpetually being replaced?
I'd say in none :) Either store it in a serious format (like catastrophe-resistent tapes! :D) or in an hdd, after all, they're almost at the same price per GB (if not even lower!) and they'll never go out of style.
Actually, on the other hand, with the update of the data interfaces (ide/sata/sata II/e-sata/jump-through-hoops-sata/etc), you probably can't keep that one either. Just go for the tapes :P

scancode: replace the version on the top, so that in case you update this you don't have to update multiple posts ;)

Texaslady: you don't need to pay for winrar, it can be used for free, only has a nag screen when it opens. Also, you could use another alternative like 7zip or ALZip, which both open rar files (there are quite a few others, these are only the ones that I remember now).

General Software Discussion / Re: Google Chrome - What Will It Take
« Last post by jgpaiva on September 13, 2008, 09:18 AM »
thorazine74: I don't think the problem discussed is with chrome having automatic updates, but with the way they are implemented.
You see, there could be automatic updates, but there should be an option to disable (which IIRC there isn't) and they should only be executed as a part of the program itself (for example when you open chrome, or something like that) and NEVER as a windows task.
Not only is it a way of "hiding" the auto updates (it took me a while to figure how to disable it in Vista, it's way stranger than in XP), it also generates web traffic that people aren't expecting (imagine if you're on a mobile connection and the updater checks for updates every 10 seconds) because they don't have the browser open.
1015
Unfortunatelly, to be honest, I haven't developed GridMove in quite a while. Thus, you'd better not count on it.

Interesting, yksyks!
gMote works pretty well in Vista, and it has a lovely interface (even for me, and I hate non-standard interfaces!).
Also, I think it's very easy to configure. I think it only lacks some default shortcuts, so that we can play out with it right away instead of having to configure it first.

Scancode: our M200 has a disk with only 4GB or did you miss a zero?

quote: from an old IBM laptop
FOUR. Like in Nintendo SIXTY FOOOOOOUR!
;D ;D I noticed it was from an old IBM laptop, I just found it strange as it has almost as much RAM as hdd :) (well, not as much, but the RAM amount is considerable when compared with the disk :) )
1018
Well, I mostly use it to place Instant messaging windows on the 4 corners of the screen, and Windows Live messenger on the right of the screen. Notice that the screen has a resolution of 1280x800, the same as a 15.4' screen.
When I connect the external 20' monitor, I often use gridmove to place stuff on the laptop's screen, on the 4 corners, or in 3 columns and place stuff side by side on the 20'.
But I sure agree with you, GridMove's full usefulness can only be achieved with a really large screen :)
1019
Well.. GridMove is most useful with larger screens (usually 20' or larger), but I use it on my laptop frequently (14' screen), and it's still useful.
The only thing you have to keep in ming is that using smaller screens will probably imply using another grid, since grids with a large number of "hotspots" don't really fit for smaller screens, since each hotspot is too smal..

JGPaiva's GridMove and Ahk Tools / Re: GridMove: Grids Here
« Last post by jgpaiva on September 13, 2008, 05:17 AM »
If any of my suggestions are already possible, I apologize in advance for my ignorance. As I said, I just discovered GridMove yesterday and may certainly have missed something.
And you made this complex grid? Incredible! :D

About your suggestions..
Adding [MonitorTop] wouldn't really help much, speed-wise. The problem is that drawing the grid for that many "hotspots" (yeah, that sounds WAY better than grid elements :)) takes some time. Usually, for smaller grids, this isn't noticeable.
About defining your own variables... I think someone also suggested that, and I think it makes sense. I'm not sure if I could do it, but I'll add it to my todo list :)

Ok, people please don't take this wrongly, but lujomu's grid is just... Perfect!
It goes beyond grids, it's VERY flexible, and I agree with its 100 possiblities, if you have a screen large enough to use it, it allows you to place windows EXACTLY as you'd like, and it's impressive how easy it is to use!
I was like "man, it's impressive how he predicted how I'm going to move the mouse to extend this area to the one on its left/right".

Thank you very much, lujomu. I'm glad you took the time to make this grid :)

If you don't mind, I'd like to include this grid as a default grid with GridMove in the next release I make!

That's strange spyda..
Try downloading the most recent version, it doesn't even have the "browse" option anymore, it just loads the .grid files from the /grids folder.

I'm there also!
And we're already 49! :D
The green markers are a very nice touch, allows you to see the time fuses in action ;)
