General Software Discussion / Re: ERAM (Open Source RAM Disk) Development
« Last post by Zero3K on June 26, 2016, 05:18 PM »
1. I sent him an email regarding the source code being on Github.
2. Oh, ok.
3. I still think that there's more speed to get out of this driver when it works properly on a 64-bit OS.

1. I think he's either dead or gave up on it a long time ago (its been 10+ years since the latest version was made).
2. Please link me to a pge that explains this fiasco.
3. I will do that soon.

1. I got the source from the latest archive of it that is available on its homepage (which is located at http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA000363/).
2. Its faster according to the benchmark I put on the repo and smaller in size.

It would be nice if someone could get it to work on Windows 10 (64-bit). Its driver and source code can be downloaded by going to https://github.com/Zero3K/ERAM.

So what is a good alternative? I haven't tried it, but I've heard NoMachine mentioned?

I am using Brynhildr as my RAT. You can get it by going to http://blog.x-row.net/?p=2455#download. There is also a QT based client available at https://github.com/f...qtbrynhildr/releases.

General Software Discussion / Re: Nice guide to using a RAM disk
« Last post by Zero3K on May 06, 2016, 11:24 AM »
I use Bond Disc (http://www.bonddisc.com) to make a 640 MB RAM Disk that is set to be the R: drive and I store my Browser's Cache, Printer Spool, and Flash Cookies on it (by making a Symbolic Link that points to its location on my HDD). I have it set to backup to C:\ramdisk.sna (via Drive Snapshot) every night (via Task Scheduler) and on reboot (via Shutter). I then set it up to restore from C:\ramdisk.sna to R: on login (via Drive Snapshot). Its REALLY FAST and works well on Windows 10 (not sure about Windows 8 ).

EDIT: A screenshot of a benchmark I just did is attached so you all can see exactly how fast it is.

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: AdGuard: the better Ad Muncher?
« Last post by Zero3K on May 23, 2015, 11:18 PM »
The developer of Ad Muncher has no money to spend on developing the new version. So, its not going to come out.

Is this a fact? Or just supposition? Is there an announcement about this?

Thank you.

Jim

It's a fact. I learned about it by asking Jeff about v5's progress via its IRC channel.

Interesting things (actually, those are 2 devs AFAIK) happen when you decide to give away your things for free.

Only one actually. The other guy is the filter list maintainer.

Non-Windows Software / Project Mayhem for Windows
« Last post by Zero3K on March 12, 2015, 11:43 AM »
I need help compiling it. I've tried compiling it under Ubuntu 10.04, Angstrom Linux, and various compilers on my PC (which is running Windows 7). None of them produced all of the binaries that they should've. Its source code is available at https://github.com/g...desco/project-mayhem. Thanks in advance to anyone that is able to get it compiled and provides the outputted files.

A new version (75 Beta 1) has been made available for downloading since yesterday. You can find more info about it and the link to download it by going to http://kmeleon.sourc...um/read.php?8,131009.

Its a really nice attempt at a download manager. It would be quite a shame for it to go wasted. There's a similar styled program called Download Ninja but its too bloated since it relies on .NET 4.0 being installed.

Yes. It means that they won't add support for it, but someone else could by making a plugin for it.

It works well except for two crashes I experienced in the previous beta. So far I haven't experienced them again in the new beta.

Its now at version 74 Beta 3. You can read ore about it and get its download link by going to http://kmeleon.sourc...um/read.php?8,127127.

dantheman: its been added to the new beta.
123
Its now at v1.1.2.0. You can get it via the download button on its homepage. It contains offers which can be stopped from showing by using Unchecky. The reason for them is because they got to get money somehow (Paypal isn't an option since they stopped allowing donations to people in the country they work from).
124
This one caught my attention a couple months ago, but I've been waiting for it to mature a bit before I try installing it on any of my computers. I can't afford to have any down-time right now.

It works pretty well for me. It detects almost all of the installers with 3-rd party offers that I've come across. The ones that it doesn't, I tell the developer about via its feedback site, which is http://unchecky.userecho.com.
125
I don't know how it works either, but it looks like they work with various installers.  If you find one it doesn't work with, then you can request they update it to work with it.

or something like this ... :-[

There's no "they". Only one guy is developing the program and maintaining the script used to determine which checkboxes to uncheck, etc.
