For my own work, I aim to have one repo per project. Here are some reasons:

Unless the projects are very strongly connected, separate repos means you have a clear development history for each.
Git usually means branching -- and branching all projects to work on a change in one of them is silly (even if it's cheap)
If one of the projects becomes useful to other people, it will be easier if they can clone that alone
If you use submodules to include a library, you know the exact version (commit) you are using. If you just include the source in multiple project repos you have no idea which changes you may have made in each of them (like Deozaan, I sometimes end up there )
If you do not use submodules, it can be nice to have the development of the library in a repo of it's own for the three first reasons above

But it will depend on the project. Something like chapters of a book I would not put in separate repos, but a small library that I am likely to reuse in other projects I would (even if it's just a couple of files).

(Btw, I am not necessarily suggesting the use of submodules -- for some things they work well, but also have drawbacks.)

Got an email from SpiderOak about Semaphor. From the press release:

In celebration of Data Privacy Day, SpiderOak today announced Semaphor, a new workplace collaboration tool for teams and businesses that care about privacy. General availability for Semaphor is later in the first quarter, and SpiderOak is accepting a limited number of pre-release invitation requests at https://spideroak.com/semaphor.

Semaphor helps teams improve their productivity by keeping members focused, informed, and connected. Teams can join group conversations, private message team members, share files, and install trusted third-party integrations knowing their privacy is protected at every step. Following the same privacy-centric design as all SpiderOak solutions, Semaphor uses a Zero Knowledge architecture that ensures nothing leaves a computer or mobile device until after it is encrypted and is never decrypted until it is unlocked with keys only located on individuals’ devices.

It sounds a bit like Slack, but with a privacy focus. Open source and written in Go, and they plan to sell hosting. Will be interesting to see how that works out.

Other new products mentioned in the email were Encryptr, a password vault that stores your info encrypted in their cloud, and Kloak, a socal network (?!) with privacy focus.

Are SpiderOak stretching a bit far?

Regarding the reply arrow, I was wondering if it would be possible to overlay it on the other post icons? I am missing it on the "thread has an attachment" icon for example.

I made a version of the green arrow on it's own with transparent background in case that helps.

My first thought was aperture as well. If you have the camera below the floor, all die will have the same distance to the camera, and you can use the aperture to make only a very narrow area in focus. I don't know how easy lenses capable of this at short distances are to come by, perhaps a macro lens.

You Need a Budget has been recommended before on DonationCoder. I noticed they changed their business model from $40 to buy the current version, to a subscription model where you pay $5 a month (or $50 a year).

I think one piece of sound advice if you are trying to get your financial situation under control, is to try to limit the number of monthly recurring subscription fees.

Also, I am not a fan of the move to having all your information in the cloud. I rather prefer to have my financial information on my own computer.

There is a long thread on their forum with people voicing their opinions about the change.

Well, he does say existing files signed before that date will be tolerated, so (at least for now) it is a question of whether you need a new key for future apps.

From a cursory glance; for end users it means nothing, for developers it means they may have to buy a new certificate in order for their future signatures to look properly validated.

But no good news without a little complaining

- I am using Linux more and more for testing and development, and I had a SoftMaker Office license valid for three PCs, so this sounded great. But it seems when you buy a Windows license, that is valid for three Windows installs, and a Linux license is valid for three Linux installs. So apparently I have to buy two licenses (totalling six installs) to install on two machines?

Also, Load and Help 2015 has launched.

I should add this all also depends on what you mean by "put these together in one program" -- if each separately licensed component is .. well .. a separate component, and the main program links dynamically to them, then perhaps it is more likely to be possible.

Standard disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, and this is not legal advice.

I am quite far from being a license expert, but I have agonized over the various implications of various licenses in the past, so I would like to suggest GNUs comments on licenses, and WikiPedias license compatibility chart.

From these, the MSPL does not appear to be compatible with (L)GPL, and Apache is only compatible with (L)GPL v3+ (you may want to check if the LGPL library is actually "LGPL 2.1", or "LGPL 2.1 or later"). The problem, I think, is than any amalgamation would have to be under the (L)GPLv3+ to accommodate both the LGPL and Apache licensed code, but the MSPL does not allow sublicensing.

Just to elaborate, Matthew Butterick explains quite well why professional fonts make a difference compared to system fonts in Practical Typography.

I've used the free version of Charter before and it's great on print. It does not appear to include hinting though, and can look awful on screen.
