It's possible, according to deozaan's link above, that this was a form of protest against the use of his code by large companies that use, but dont support, open source software. As such, it would seem to be his 'right' to do this (otoh I have no idea what's in the small print).

Me, I dont tend to look at things in terms of 'rights' -- rather in terms of interaction. The developer is probably frustrated -- how do you talk to a Fortune 500 company? You can probably talk all you want, but you get no response. So the big bold gesture is tempting. Big bold gestures tend to cause a backlash. Whether that gets you anywhere is debatable (your call) but I can certainly sympathise with the situation -- and the response (if I'm understanding things properly). Everyone's got to decide for themselves how they approach a situation like this.

RE the lack of financial support; that must could be so demoralising. Also shown up here recently by someone listing the support for their coding (almost zero). [EDIT] I know there are some very generous people here, and also that financially is not the only way to contribute. I dont want to be just negative here...[/EDIT]

I seem to get error messages no matter what I do

I have still not been able to reproduce the crash so cannot yet explain what the root cause is. Here is a test .ahk version (requires AutoHotkey installed) with an attempted workaround. Can you test it and tell me if the error still happens?

https://github.com/n...721/MoveFileHere.ahk

I'm (very) embarrassed about the lateness of this response, but this works a treat -- thank you very much  :-[

Yes, only one entry (as per your example above)

Now works when run as Admin on both machines -- thanks for your help skwire

It's not recognising the .NET install

It's possible that you need to install the Desktop Runtime specific version of .NET 5.
I updated the original post to clarify this.
thanks -- I used that version of NET on a second machine and it works fine

I guess I'll have to uninstall the NET on the first machine before installing that version. Will let you know how it goes when I get around to it.

Thanks for the programme -- for the last few years I've been keeping a clean desktop, and this makes it really easy

version 1.0.2 build 1

Are you running from a UAC protected folder?  If so, does running as Admin help?
So, I had the same problem on two win 10 machines
Both running from C:\Portable\sSpeedtest

It seems that where you have to approve on first run (by typing "yes") -- there's actually two questions there. I dont know do you have to answer yes to both -- but on the first attempt (laptop) I missed the second question and closed the window. sSpeedtest is not working there, even when run as admin. Even if I delete the install and start again, I dont get that command window any more -- the info must be saved somewhere?

Now, on the other machine (desktop) I noticed the second question and answered (yes) -- this one works when run as admin.
Thanks for the programme

I'm just getting zeros across the board -- using the option "to quickly add a group of Speedtest.net servers closest to you". The servers look good - ten showed and were automatically selected.

Which version are you using?

version 1.0.2 build 1

hi skwire,

It's on a relatively new install of Windows 10, which I havent messed around with much. Just with default windows security /anti-virus.

did I miss out on a step?

Yes, well, followed the first few games which were draws. Also watched a video showing game 7. So I missed the big one -- I am not going to watch an eight hour video though ;-) But even the summaries of this game are over forty minutes long:

Interesting, obviously not the same word for everyone since the word I just got doesn't have repeated letters.
Same here (new word due here in twenty minutes or so).

Got today's word relatively quickly fwiw which consoled me after not getting the previous one at all.

This looks like it is intended to be printed professionally and cut to page size. Wonder does it open in a layout programme or illustrator -- you'd still have to do a lot of work to seperate the pages.

1) Can you not access a "normal" version of it?
Otherwise I'd take screenshots and crop to page.
2) Curious: what language is it?
3) Do you understand it
? (Never mind, it's in various languages)

Do you have it running and installed on a windows 10 machine? What are you using now?
I'm no longer doing the work I used it for. No longer even work (professionally) at/with a computer. I do have one project though that I intend to finish next year, for which I could use it, or something like it, so might try install it at some stage again.

General Software Discussion / Re: alternative to filehamster?

Just for the record:
seems like File Hamster has been updated recently.  There is an overview of the new features here on youtube from 3 years ago.
https://www.youtube....
Those videos are all of features that already existed years ago. I wrote elsewhere on dc that some minor bugs were fixed in 2019. Unfortunately without a link. I think they mainly made sure it ran on Windows 10 so as they could keep selling it. I couldn't find the forum.

Filehamster could be an option. It appears to be in development (again). Also requires active input, but iiuc is a lot simpler than full versioning system.
Forget that:
after years of no updates, they fixed a couple of minor bugs end of last year, but no support in 2020, so I would avoid.
122
I'm wondering where are these available?
And are they getting the attention they deserve (they sound very helpful to youtubers)...

PS I not a youtuber, and have never used Premiere

^sorry about that -- but my point remains Contro.
If there are no recommendations from DC members, why not try Gizmo's recommendations? (Or other sources - how did you get on with ShotCut?)
You can then let us know how good they are, if they do what you want, are easy to use etc. thereby giving something back to the community.

^ were they recommended by someone?
Do you not trust gizmo's recommendations? I'm not saying they always right, but if you don't get any personal recommendations, it's a good place to start.

e.g. for one app they say:
"impressive features, simple and intuitive user interface". Sounds good to me...
