If this "feature" is still bothering you, try this Autohotkey script.

Thanks, i think i'll store this for future reference.

I was able to finally get Evernote to open on screen by using Skrommel's WinWarden2 program.
;D Too funny. While getting the link for this script, I see YOU were the driving force behind WinWarden!  Small world.

What Wraith said, but when you do that use regmon or something like it to track any registry writes that it is doing. Personally I would think it's something in HKCU\Software\Evernote or wherever.

Heh - actually I just ran across this page that purports to list all of Evernote's registry settings, maybe there is a clue there.

Also, this page for a utility that "is a small app that allows you to change some of Evernote's more useful, but hidden Regsitry settings".

REGMON. That's a good idea - thanks for the tip, i'll check that out.
I perused the links and, while they've got some good information, they both are a bit dated unfortunately. Evernote's changed their UI quite a bit since v1.0.

You might try after you get it positioned on the screen to close it (completely, including the taskbar notification icon) and then re-open it.  It's likely that they're saving the position on exit, and if you reboot without closing, it might not go through that procedure.

Yeah, that works until the next reboot. I've exited ALL apps and rebooted, this one is the stubborn app that refuses to obey the "rules".

General Software Discussion / Window offscreen at startup
« on: September 12, 2019, 03:54 PM »
My Evernote window shows up offscreen every stinkin' time i reboot.  >:(
I've moved and resized the window, shut down the application and then started it up again and it retains previous location/size, as one would expect.
BUT - when I reboot the desktop, i see the icon in the task bar and the window is once again, offscreen.

I used AutoHotkey's Window Spy to see that the window's X-Y coordinates are set to -32000 & -32000.  Searching the registry for "-32000" results in these results:

Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppUserModelId\Microsoft.Windows.ParentalControls (also in HKLM)
 - DisplayName = @%SystemRoot%\system32\WpcRefreshTask.dll,-32000

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\AsyncMac (also in HKLM)
 - Description (also DisplayName) = @%systemroot%\system32\mprmsg.dll,-32000

Details:
OS = Windows 10 1703 build 15063.1746
3 monitors, left-most is primary, all are set to 1920x1080.

Anyone have any trouble-shooting ideas for getting my window to appear on one of my monitors after rebooting?

DC Website Help and Extras / Handling spam on forum
« on: August 14, 2019, 12:23 PM »
I hate to say it, but I still feel that we should employ a system like myspace does with their groups, new members have to be members a full week before being allowed to post ANYTHING.  This ensures they are serious about the forum and keeps out most spammers, also gets them well acquainted with the rules and procedures before they can break them....
Only problem is that it hampers legitimate new users from requesting help for their issue.
"I need help, and I need it NOW!"

Perhaps an approval from a moderator might work? there'd be some back-and-forth interaction to ensure the poster was valid?

(Also, i'm kind of surprised we're adding this to an ancient thread ?)

^ Pandoc needs 3'rd party application, before it can create pdf.
Yeah, I'm running the Tex Live Installer now, even as we speak.  Holy smoke, about 1/3 of the way through install and it's only been...  let's see... an hour and 5 minutes!
I don't think I've EVER seen an install take this long!

Developer's Corner / Looking for freeware command line text to PDF
« on: August 02, 2019, 01:54 PM »
I found TXT2PDF referenced in a couple places, including this DonationCoder post, and I tried pulling a copy from VeryPDF.com, but was blocked (unsafe?).

Does anyone have experience with a freeware CLI text-to-PDF converter that can be run from a Windows batch script? And a URL to a "safe" download would be fab!

Just an FYI... Malwarebytes stopped triggering on your site.

Still being blocked by Barracuda here.

I just tried opening http://www.hnsoft.pt/cstatus, but was blocked by Barracuda Networks:

The link you are accessing has been blocked by the (company name) Web Filter because it contains spyware. The name of the spyware is: Spyware.Exploit.Misc.MU

Living Room / Re: Anyone here using a standing desk?
« on: July 24, 2018, 11:30 AM »
Have you got any feedback yet for those of us as might be interested, please?
I'd be very interested - studies of work environment design and ergonomic have shown that these factors can have profound effects on the worker's productivity and sense of well-being.
However, some recent research seems to indicate that the supposed benefits of open plan offices are not as straightforward as had been hypothesised/believed: The Open Office Revolution Has Gone Too Far

Interesting.
Sorry, I don't have any personal feedback as I still don't have the standing desk installed at my desk. However, three workmates have the VariDesk desktop installed with varying degrees of usage.

One person is a younger (30's), health-conscious man. He seems to use his to adjust his seating / standing height a couple times each day.
Another person is an older (50's) man, also health-conscious but I haven't seen him change his desk height since it was installed, more than 2 months ago. Then again, he does spend an hour and half each day at the gym.
The last is a man in his 30's, smoker, not health-focused. I've seen him adjust his station but on average, only a couple times each week.

Of the two that do adjust their station height, they've spoken favorably of the VariDesk design, stating that it's easy, stable, and doesn't take a lot of time to move up or down.

Part of the delay with my station is a change in thinking for the standing desks. The management is now looking at adjustable legs, electrically powered to move the entire desktop up or down. They're still trying to figure out how to either switch from L-shaped desks to rectangle desks or somehow get the entire L-shape desktop to raise and lower.  My guess is that we'll be looking at switching to a rectangular desk, but time will tell.

I use an app on my iPhone/iPad called "WorkTime" to display the time, weather, and calendar.

I like it but would love an app that has all those items but also has an RSS reader or better yet, a scrolling news headlines, ala "Desktop Ticker".

Anyone know of anything close to that?

Do you think this cautionary tale applies to ALL 4k monitors, or the particular make & model you tested?
Do you have additional specs such as what graphic card you're using? What are the make and model of your monitor you're returning?

The company I work for just sent around an email inviting each of us to sign up for a standing desk from Varidesk. Many have signed up (50+), most have opted in for a mat as well. Looking forward to trying it as my middle has been expanding wa-a-a-y too large!

I'll follow up once it's arrived and have had a chance to use it a bit.

The shortcut Ctrl+R works as a universal hotkey to restore scratchpad.exe

I have the same issue as Tomos. Is there a config file or registry setting that can be tweaked to change hotkey combinations? When I try to reply to emails, I instead get a new Scratchpad prompt. And another dollar in the swear jar.

PopUp Wisdom / Re: "File can not be uploaded" error
« on: July 13, 2016, 12:28 PM »
it looks like the error is related to the SOUND FILE not being found or valid.

That was it.
Don't know what happened to my sound file, but I swapped it for a different one, and voila!

Thanks for the help, sorry for the trouble!

I unchecked the "Check for updates" and restarted.
Same error.

For reference, I have all books checked, including "User Quotes". This includes
  • The Book of Corkscrews
  • Mini Dictionary
  • Unix Fortunes
  • oblique strategies
  • philosopher quotes
  • UserQuotes.txt

I've included a screenshot of the General Options.

PopUp Wisdom / "File can not be uploaded" error
« on: July 13, 2016, 11:01 AM »
Running PopUpWisdom v1.09.01.
Upon each startup, I receive this error message:
   ---------------------------
   PopUpWisdom
   ---------------------------
This file can not be uploaded.
   ---------------------------
   OK
   ---------------------------

How do I identify what file is trying to be uploaded?  And where is it being uploaded to?

I've just updated sWeather to v1.5.9 which should support Yahoo!'s new weather API.  Please download and test.

Works great for me! Thank you for the dedication and hard work you've put into this - I really appreciate it!

those are covered by the Crucial System Scanner

Not to brag or anything (oh, alright, yes, to brag... :P), my beloved brother-in-law wrote that application for Crucial!

1. I use DuckDuckGo instead of Google. Is the search engine configurable?
2. I use a Mac. I'm assuming this is a Windows application?
3. We have ad filters at work. All I see at the download link is a bunch of "Access blocked - content alert" windows and a download link. Like... LOTS of content blocked. MediaFire?  Eww.
4. Where are notes stored? Cloud? Local? USB? Are they plain text? RTF? HTML?
