In the main ScreenshotCaptor window you've in the lower right-hand corner a field for quick file naming.
This is for quick naming a series of screenshots aside the default setting.
Maybe you've put some text in there.

Bullseye!  Thanks much!

You can change the vertical window size of that bottom pane with those name fields on it and I had it scrunched down so that it was almost hidden and wasn't able to see that there was anything in it.  Thanks a whole lot for the great guess!

Miss Mouser.  Does he ever make an appearance on the site these days?

Thanks again!

Screenshot Captor / Not saving with filename specified in preferences
« on: February 14, 2025, 11:00 PM »
Several months ago I was playing with the filename to save a file with.

I don't remember if I changed the name in preferences or changed it in the field in the capture popup that's called something like "Override name"

Anyway, I named the file "345".  Now every time I save a file it is named "345."  But it is sequencing so that if a file with that name already exists, it will add a number to it such as "345 03".

I cannot figure out how to get it to stop using that name and start using the name I have set in the preferences file (screenshot below).

Last resort will be to fiddle with the .ini file but hoping someone here knows how to do it through the program.

Thanks for any help!

It did take me a few minutes of tinkering to figure it out looking thru options and experimenting since I hardly use that button.

And thanks for trying to make me feel better about it!   :D Getting old is tough.

My grandfather was an on the air amateur in the early 1900s.  Built his own gear including a spark gap transmitter at one time.  It was before there was licensing.  When WW1 started, they were going house to house confiscating any transmitters people had to prevent spying.  He was only a teen.  They took his gear and he was never on the air again.  I have a picture of him in his "shack."  It is MEGA cool!

So it's in my blood line.

Okay... apologies for getting off topic and thanks again to all!

If you are changing the directory of each screenshot after each capture it could be this highlighted option under misc tweaks maybe...]

Bullseye!

Thank you hamradio!  That is it and as soon as you pointed it out, I remembered setting it years ago.

This might say something about why I couldn't find it.  I've been a licensed ham for about 57 years. My age is showing and then some.  :(

Thank you again to you and to Ath and to Mouser!

In the Preferences screen, there's a page full of 'Post capture options' to choose from. Most likely you've set one of the options there that's causing this behavior, maybe a Commandline tool?

Thank you for your response.

Yes, I felt sure it must be on that list too but I have already studied the Capture and Post Capture options and did not see it.

I should mention it happens when using the "Save Image As" button on the post capture pop-up dialog.  After you select the folder and save it, the file manager pops up.  I can't find any way to stop the file manager from launching after it saves, but unless my memory is failing (which is possible) I could swear I once had it set so it did not do that and changed it... some years ago.

I don't think it has to do with a command line... can probably rule that out.

First... even though it has not been developed in a couple of years, SC is STILL THE BEST screenshot capture app I have ever seen.  Been using it 10 or 15 years...maybe more? (I lost count) and there is nothing better TO THIS DAY.

The last time I was here was around January 2024 I think I asked if Mouser is still around.  I was told he was but a quick check and I didn't see any posts from him in this part of the forum anyway.  Just want to give him a shout out!

I am almost certain I used to be able to take "Grab Selected Region" captures without the file manager opening after each capture.  I thought I vaguely remembered that at one time I changed a preference and it started doing that.  But now I want to turn it off and can't find the setting!

Anyone know if there is a setting to prevent that darn file manager from popping up after each capture?

Thank you!

Yes  He always comes back! DC is his creation and a cozy home where he's highly appreciated :-*

AWESOME! I am so glad to hear that.  I was concerned about him the last time I was here not knowing where he was.

Years ago he was so generous to spend a lot of time to help me with a SC problem and I never forgot his generosity!  It is still to this day the best screenshot program available anywhere!

I would like to be able to show ALL file types in the left hand file tree panel.  Is there some setting that would allow that?

Currently it shows image type files and for some reason also .pdf files which SC cannot display.

Thanks!

PS: Does Mouser ever appear here anymore?  Just curious.

I remember making a pack, but I don't remember if mouser included them with the program.

I have attached them to this post.

Awesome!  These are great!  Thank you very much.

I hope mouser is well.  I only talked to him once or twice here years ago but thought he was a really nice (and talented!) guy.  Kind of sad not to see him around and wonder if he at least still checks in now and then.  If so THANK YOU mouser.  SC is still the best screenshot software I have ever come across.

And thank you again app103.

Is Mouser no longer here?  :(

What's the address to the site to look?
-Emily-Elizabeth (June 16, 2023, 02:55 PM)

It just sends you to the Screenshot Captor page here:
https://www.donationcoder.com/software/mouser/popular-apps/screenshot-captor

But I don't see anywhere to download any clipart.

Hi

When using Screenshot Captor clipart I was prompted to go to the site to find additional clipart.  But I could not find it.

Does it exist and can you tell me where to find it?

Thank you!  :)

That or maybe have it turned off by default.  :)

Quick follow-up.  I also unchecked the boxes in the anti-aliasing settings as I found I was still getting fuzziness when flattening in some cases.  That fixed it all.

Thanks again mouser!

YOU WORK TOO MUCH!  This is the second time you have helped me on a Sunday.

#2
I almost don't have words for how cool this program is.  It looks like you were right!  I simply set anti-aliasing to "Never," and this particular issue anyway seems to have disappeared.  Yet another level of super fantastic detailed settings this program has that I never knew about.  I absolutely love the depth of adjustments SC has.  There is nothing else out there that can match it.

If I understand your question correctly, yes, the fuzziness was happening at 100% zoom.  When I made the screenshot in the first post in this thread zoom was at 100%.  So it appears it was the aliasing!

Thank you mouser.  You are amazing!

Screenshot Captor / Fuzzy Text
« on: May 03, 2020, 02:21 PM »
Okay, I have alluded to it before, but haven't provided much detail.  Here is an example of fuzzy text I get doing certain things.

In this case, I create a text box and put some text in it.  It looks fine as long as the text box is selected.  But when I unselect it, or flatten the text box, the text gets fuzzier and more out of focus looking.  This example demonstrates that, but it's not the best example, it's just something that I came across while working on something else and decided to use it to document this problem.

Sometimes the text gets so blurry and fuzzy that it's hard to read (maybe it depends on the font, size, background color and or properties, etc.).  You can see what I mean here.  In this case the blurriness just kind of makes it look like it's been changed to bold.

So sometimes it's frustrating that it looks fine when I have the box selected, but then it looks horrible when I flatten it.

« on: April 15, 2020, 07:54 PM »
Mouser I am embarrassed by how long it has taken me to follow up on this.  Should have done it a long time ago.

After some study, I think I figured out that it is not SC's problem.  The problem is that unlike say, a word processor, that allows you to change the background color of some text, the text I work with is not as well defined.  I use it for highlighting things in articles captured from online.  For whatever technical reason, maybe the difference between the word processor producing text that is rendered differently then screenshot captured text, the text I am using the highlighting on has different properties.  Maybe that means it is not as "dense" or something like that.  I mean dense in a figurative way not necessarily a technical way.  So sometimes, when highlighted, it isn't as stark a contrast between the highlight and the background color, or the text doesn't show through as clearly as say compared to that word processor text that seems to be both clear and strongly contrasted.

So I don't think this is SC's fault.  It's just the nature of the differently rendered text.

However, I do notice that sometimes, when I flatten screenshots that contain text, the text (which looked fine before flattening becomes fuzzy looking.  So apparently it is distorting somehow when flattened.  I think the entire screenshot is becoming fuzzy, but it is most notable on the text parts.  This is not a closely related problem although both do effect the readability of captured text.

Not easy to provide a sample since it involves screenshots which I don't think can capture this.  But I'll see if I can think of another way to describe how to reproduce it.

Anyway... the problem described in this thread are NOT the fault of SC.  I wanted to make that clear.  I have been able to get it to work pretty well most times except for certain kinds of fonts which tend to blur more than others and maybe aren't as dark and dense looking.  But most of the time I can tweak things to look quite good.

One of the few things I have been unable to figure out how to do with this spectacular program is to create strong highlighting of areas of the picture that I want to call attention to.

I can use the "Draw highlighting rectangle..." tool to add color and then adjust the transparency to highlight.  But no matter which settings I use -- including changing blend mode -- I don't seem to be able to get that intense bright highlight in red, yellow, green, blue, etc. that you usually see in programs like word processors.  It is always kind of muted.

Is there something I can do to improve this?

"There is actually a FIT WIDTH option in the view menu"

Wow!  Never saw that!  Thank you mouser!

The mark of an outstanding program... so many goodies you are always discovering new ones!

Humbled you like my suggestion.  Keep up the fabulous work!  :D

Screenshot Captor / Feature Request: Better Animated GIF Support
« on: October 10, 2019, 03:54 PM »
I think I've previously mentioned that the GIF engine in SC seems to choke on some basic GIFs.  Also, I have not found a way to allow an AG to play repeatedly.  It seems to only play once then stop.

Would be helpful to have a stronger player with more options.

In my dreams SC would also support resizing animated GIFs and maybe even other AG editing features that I currently need to switch software to do and then come back to SC.... a big ask I know.  But who else could possibly do it if you can't Mouser???!!!

PS: How far does flatter get me?  ;)

The clickable choices for displaying the images on the upper right of the Thumbnail Panel are excellent AutoFit, 50%, 100% etc.

But I often capture entire web pages and if I use AutoFit or FIT, it shows the entire page no matter how long.  What I really want is to adjust the image to the width of the Panel, but not the length.  I have this same need for many other images I open.

So the suggestion is...

Add a "Fit Width" choice.  Would also like to have a 10%, 25% and 75% choice so you can instantly hone in on what you need.

Keep up the INCREDIBLE work !!!!!!  :)

For me, the attached gif plays correctly in other gif enabled apps, but stops at frame 3 in SC.
