Daniel Corbier is doing an experimental and interesting kind of giveaway for his library.
You get a full license for free if you reach a goal = amount of points, that you can get in various ways - basically spreading the word about the tool.

Aside for the deal, if your are developing something that may be in need of an advanced math parser, be sure to give a look at it.

Here's the link: http://www.ucalc.com...athparser/index.html

Living Room / Time for a rant - blacklist
« on: November 03, 2005, 05:13 PM »
Horror stories float around all the time about this or that guy that found his IP on the black list of one of the many company that mantains this kind of service. But how stupid can be to ban entire IP blocks "by automated default" with some automathic triggers, when you risk to lock out dozens of people? Often getting an IP out of a black list need days if not weeks!!

I have just tried to fire up the IRC client to have some talk on the #donationcoder channel, and the server on the other side notify me that my IP is blacklisted an so i'm d-lined. What stupid can this be? I'm on a DSL with dynamic IP (like some thousands other people around here), so this kind of thing can block me now, another guy an hour from now, etc. etc.

Bleah!

Sorry guys - we are going to have to put this on hold for a little while while we move this site to faster servers. We'll be clearing the back log and should have this up again tomorrow. Thanks Nick - e3

Just saw this on the PowerBASIC forum.

Topic: Egrid32 PRO - Second special offer

Egrid32 is a very flexible grid control (as a standard Win32 .DLL) by Elias Montoya.
If you don't know it, I think it's worth a look.
Here's a link: Egrid32 Pro home
The code samples are in PowerBASIC, but it should be not a problem to use them from, say, C/C++. The PowerBASIC syntax to deal with this things is very "Petzold style"! ;)

Living Room / Any free web counters recommendations?
« on: September 23, 2005, 04:33 PM »
I used the free Nedstat service for nearly two years, and was very satisfied with it.
I had various counters on many of my pages at Mark0's home and it was very handy to check how things were going on.

Few weeks ago, they sold/changed to Webstats4U. Things seems to going on well, but in the last days I started to notice some times some pop up ads when browsing trough my pages. After little tests and searching on the web, it come the confirmation that they have started to inject pop up ads trough the counters links.
Not that I think they didn't have the right to do it, but I simply don't wont to bother visitors with annoying pop up, so I removed them all and cancelled the account.

So, I'm in search for a nice replacement. Any idea / experiences?

Thanks,
Bye!

General Software Discussion / TrID file identifier
« on: September 16, 2005, 09:55 AM »
Hi!

I would like to present this tool I coded, hoping that it may prove useful to someone.

TrID is a free tool designed to identify binary files regardeless of names/extensions. Instead, it use a library of XML definitions that points to recurring patterns for each "knowed" formats.

Actually, more than 1.600 file types are supported, as you can see here:
http://mark0.net/soft-trid-deflist.html

You could also easyly build new defs for some file types you are familiar with. Simply point TrIDScan to a bunch of files of a specific type, and it will generate a newtype.trid.xml file. Rename it so something more meaningfull, edit the file to fill some description fileds, and you are done.
More details here:
http://mark0.net/soft-tridscan-e.html

If you send me the new defs, I will add them to the base library, and update the file types page giving you the proper credits.

There are 3 flavours of TrID.

Cmd line version:
http://mark0.net/soft-trid-e.html

GUI (.NET) version:
http://mark0.net/soft-tridnet-e.html

Also, an online/browser version. This one can be used from any PC with a browser and an internet connection.

Here's a sample output for an OpenOffice document:
