A while ago YouTube turned off their email notifications (apparently because hardly anyone actually opened those emails). If you, like me, have a channel you follow closely (or more than one), I recommend
Notifications for YouTube (Chrome extension) as an alternative.
Once you've set it up, the extension's icon will notify you about new uploads. Very unobtrusive, I like it.
