I know in this forum there is an english free dictionary. Wordnet or something like that. It can be used offline.
I am reading english books. At this moment I am reading The Information by Martin Amis.

I am writing down the words I don't understand to a txt file.
I would like from this list create a new list that include the meaning of each word of that list.

so I need to launch a search in a prefixed dictionary and add the meaning.

Do you know a script to do this ?

Note : The superb thing may be to add this words to a program like anki to practice the vocabulary I need to understand completely the novel.

This does not match what you are looking for, but it may help you in many other ways.

It's a Chrome extension that allows you to double-click any word in your browser and it will show a definition. It also places an extension icon near your address bar which allows you to type in a word to find the definition. The downsides are that it doesn't work offline and obviously won't help you with text outside of your browser (which probably includes the book you're reading).

I also remember an utility specially made for traductors in autohotkey that was able to launch searchs and other abilities.
I don't remember now its name, but I will investigate

Running to see the chrome addon.

But I read the ebook in a kindle, not in a browser.
I am supposing is more easy to find words in a offline dictionary.

Each word may have a lot of meanings. And I need all the meanings.
So a word or derivative may have from one line to many lines of text.

I use a program that identify the block with two ** (one at the beginning and other at the end)

One important question is that I am not interest in traduction, only in the meaning.

That is that an english word explain in english. Only english.

In the ereader i am using wordnet and oxford dictionary.

Is not the tool I wish now. I need to capture the meaning to process . And not only the meaning of a word. The meaning of several words.

Note : I don't know if is possible to search for phrases or compound words.

In the e-book is not possible. If I selected a group of word try to open wikipedia, and gives me also the possibility to translate with google translate ( I need to think in english, so I don't want to translate...)

I have a problem now !

the file words.txt i remain opened with pspad.

But even with dictionary.exe (appear in the task manager as AppMute . In details as Dictionary.exe . is closed I can't save the words.txt.

Why is opened or seemed to be ?

Close the dictionary/appmute.exe and you should be able to save from pspad again. Obviously the exe is keeping the file opened so no other application can write to it.
If pspad can't do it, then switch to notepad++, it has beter support for such situations, AFAIK.

I'll do. I am used to PSPAD. I am using notepad++ sometimes....

BTW I need to convert the html file to csv. I thinks is not possible in an automated way. It's not a html table.
I wish to know how to do it using the resulting html.html file

If someone shows me how to form the first line

word ; <meanings>

then I will do the rest !

I continue trying the "operation" of convet the html file into a csv file.
It's not an easy question.

Kindle has implemented the option of revising vocabulary. But I want outside kindle.

My kindle is second hand and seems not to have the option to synchronize with the amazon account. But I have the option to revise vocabulary with the Leitner's system.

In my case and at the present moment.

I am taking advantage of Skrommel's dictionary.exe and after manually with copy/paste I create the quiz in ANKI .

This copy/paste is a way to study itself. Then repeat and repeat and repeat ....

Besides the dictionary.exe gives me an extra option to search words in a new dictionary. I am using in Kindle Wordnet easy and Oxford dictionary. So is good for learning.

Convert from html to csv (when is not a HTML table) seems a delicate matter and I continue studying.

Edited : I adopt also the Word of the Day from dictionary.com , and studying with Duolingo....

Edited : I haven't an iPad for the moment so I can't consider WordsCatch.

Some years ago I try hard to recopile tools for phrasing or learning words and derivatives for investigation purposes.

I found some tools in 2014.

The layout I need is simple

The first field or anverse of the flashcard is the word.

In the reverse of the flashcard the meanings of the words.

In the csv file the question may be more complex.....

The anki help for this purpose is not clear for me. Seems I can use the code <br> to make lines, but I suppose I have to adapt in many ways the html code.
For me the layout is not so important as the content formed by the pair <word , "meanings" >.

I only need the structure from the html file consisting in [word, its meanings] to be introduced in anki testing module.
[anverse, reverse] where anverse is the word to be learned , and reverse the meanings of that word.

The style, the format you select will be the best to see the vocabulary learning clear and practical.

Finally I have resolved this problem in this way :

1. Take advantage of the html file produced by dictionary.exe (Thanks Skrommel !) . Is enough for the majority of the situations. If a word is difficult to memorize I can copy/paste to an Anki quiz.
2. I can join several html files to revise more comfortable with SoftSnow.biz Merger . Usually the result is better with the option Strip headers/footers active.
3. Kindle have their own options that may be helpful in other situations for me. My kindle is old and I can't synchronize with the pc. But I have the option to revise vocabulary words with the internal dictionaries in some special occassions.
4. The html file generated with dictionary.exe is clear and also have links to words explaining a word that I may not understand. So is an important feature.
