Creative PC Cases
« on: June 16, 2006, 01:09 AM »
A friend of mine took the idea of case mods to an extreme...building a pc out of recycled parts into an old bar-b-que grill that his mom was going to throw away.

I love it! ;D

Maybe I'll be able to get him to come here to respond and discuss it.

I'm not into case modding, but this one looks pretty cool  ;D

Shame he sidn't incorporate a flatscreen monitor in the lid - he could have had a portable ;-)

I hope he had some good insulation!

hehe

It's mine :)

just recently won a "computer showoff" contest thing at school .. and at the time the damn thing wouldnt even boot, hard drive might as well had a hole in it.  It runs suprisingly cool though, cooled by an 80mm "blowhole" and a 120mm on the bottom.  Makes a LOT of noise.  its its a AMD-K6 333mhz lol 192 mb of RAM.. usually has either Windows 2000 on it, or sometimes I put FreeBSD on it, (with the devil mascot as the wallpaper :P).  I'm planning to make another this summer, a little bit neater, and I might put useable hardware in it too. I'm trying to find some newer pictures of it, because its changed a little since those pictures.  I painted the inside candy apple red being the most visible difference.  I'll back with photos...

on the lcd screen idea... i DID briefly consider that because i have a few laptop lcd's laying around, but i looked into the hardware required to get them to work with that pc, and it was insanely pricey, cheaper to buy a lcd ready-to-go and i really didnt wanna put much money into it, actually, i have a little over 2 dollars invested in that case, without labor of course lol

A couple of friends and I built a custom casing quite some years ago, before all the rage of casemodding kiddos started. Back in ye olde days of 1999. The box has been disassembled and defunct for many years, but I still have the video we shot:

Naw, stopped doing that kind of stuff when all the casemodding kiddies started insane projects funded out of their parent's wallets ;)

The SH33PB0X had a purpose, kinda. So did my "cardboard server" (which I didn't take any pics of).

While much of the casemodding is boring, ugly and silly (plexiglass windows and cathode ray tubes... *yawn*), there's some interesting stuff done. I still think a lot of it is silly, but for instance the "doom 3 cabinet" has taken some pretty mad skills to make.

My favourites are at http://mini-itx.com/, though. There's some cute stuff there, and a lot of it serves a purpose as well.

Ok... I usually don't like modding, but that guy took modding to a whole new level! That's not a computer case anymore, it's something way beyond!
Incredible how much time that guy has put into that project. But it came out just fantastic.

i wasn't really interested in the case modding, f0dder - i just meant have you done any more videos like that - ya know, quick and kinda fun to watch.

maybe we could do some here for DC - i've no suggestions for content though.

Aah, that's what you meant.

No, sorry - it's my friend that had borrowed a cam from the school he went to back then. While I guess you don't even need a video camera these days (a medium-end digital camera should be able to deliver same quality?), I don't have the creative powers to think up stuff anyway :)

'twas a good idea, though.

Perhaps somebody else wants to step up and do something cody-cool?
