A tool to correct microsoft installer annoyances?
« on: June 13, 2006, 04:23 AM »
from http://ask-leo.com/

It's deja vu all over again for me. I had a very similar problem - whenever I tried to scan something, upon completion, Windows Installer would run attempting to install some additional HP software component. Cancelling that worked ok, but it was an annoyance I had to face with every scan.

And it's an annoyance many people face with every reboot.

The good news is that there's a free tool that might help.

Look interesting!

MSI is supposed to be oh-so-smart, but to me it's been more of an annoyance than a help :(

MS's install system is crap. There are 3 or 4 totally free systems that trump it in most every way, including ease of use (for the install creator). I don't understand why people still use it. :p

Thanks for this link. I have an install hanging around that runs at odd times. Hopefully this will root it out.

Probably because it has advantages in corporate situations where you want automatic rollout, as well as repair features (even if those cause more problems than they solve, for me anyway).

Is using .MSI installers a requirement for MS Logo certification these days, by the way?
