Curiosity Mars rover - live feed from NASA
« on: August 06, 2012, 07:02 AM »
Useful post from techrepublic:
Watch Curiosity rover land on Mars without Flash

The non-flash link they give is: http://nasa-f.akamai...ublic_h264_700@54826

Seems to work fine as a live feed into VLC itself or Firefox as a VLC display.
The feed seems to be active with occasional updates/comments, and recycles/repeats itself inbetween times.

No luck. :(

I did hear it live on the radio though.

I missed the live showing, but did see a press conference afterwards.
I shall keep watching it for updates - assuming they make them online also.

@wraith808: Very droll.
Some people might say that the funding's already been cut too - in these hard-pressed times there's so many more fat banks, corporates and politicians starving mouths to feed...though I couldn't possibly comment.

Politics aside, this is a massive thing to happen, and I am sincerely happy about it, and congratulate all those involved...

Besides, look how happy they where!

NASA's own YouTube video blocked after Scripps Local News files DMCA claim
http://motherboard.v...into-a-dmca-takedown

An hour or so after Curiosity’s 1.31 a.m. EST landing in Gale Crater, I noticed that the space agency’s main YouTube channel had posted a 13-minute excerpt of the stream. Its title was in an uncharacteristic but completely justified all caps: “NASA LANDS CAR-SIZE ROVER BESIDE MARTIAN MOUNTAIN.”

When I returned to the page ten minutes later ... the video was gone, replaced with an alien message: “This video contains content from Scripps Local News, who has blocked it on copyright grounds. Sorry about that.” That is to say, a NASA-made public domain video posted on NASA’s official YouTube channel, documenting the landing of a $2.5 billion Mars rover mission paid for with public taxpayer money, was blocked by YouTube because of a copyright claim by a private news service.

... Within hours, the problem was fixed (and the title switched back to a calmer regular title case ... But it was still a disappointing blip in an otherwise exceptional moment for humanity, what President Obama called “an unprecedented feat of technology.” It was also an interesting little object lesson in what’s still wrong with online copyright enforcement right now.

If anything NASA should sue THEM for copyright infringement, trying to claim copyright and profit from content that NASA released to the public domain.

But of course not, and even if it does the news will never ever broadcast it.

Seriously, the news is so based on sensationalizing every little thing wrong on this planet, that we finally have a huge success in the space program and it get almost completely overlooked. Curiousity is quite likely the largest human built object to ever land on Mars, and yet it only get 10 seconds of screen time while they continue whoring out the Olympics that nobody wants to see anymore or the Election that has turned into a mockery between the two main candidates.

Funny choice of verbs there Seraphim, in other threads, we apparently can't even get the Olympics ... uh... pleasure. Instead we get the marketing shell around the good stuff, like those pole dancers at men's clubs who "don't want to be touched" and "can't imagine why they'd have any crazed men to deal with."

Why is it so impossibly difficult to manage to stay away from copyright Nazis for just one, brief, fleeting moment? Unbelievable.

Anyways...

It will be interesting to hear what they discover with the rover.

  • Will they dig up Cthulhu's children?
  • Will they anger the Elder Gods, and doom mankind?
  • Are the submartian caverns of Mars accessible for the rover?
  • If so, are the Martians still in hiding there?
  • Or did they leave long ago?
  • Did they come here to interbreed with humans?
  • Did they bring all the Martian water?
  • And is that why Earth has so much water?
  • Is there another explanation for the disappearance of the Martian water?
  • Did a warlike and malevolent alien race from a higher dimensional plane of existence open an inter-dimensional portal to steal all of Mars' water?
  • If so, will they steal our water?
  • What can we do to stop aliens that live on a higher dimensional plane of existence from stealing all our water and making us like really totally thirsty with uber-cotton-mouth?
  • Will we all be forced to drink Coca-Cola and Pepsi products to get water?
  • If so, are the aliens in league with Coca-Cola and Pepsi?
  • Or are Coca-Cola and Pepsi actually aliens from a higher dimensional plane of existence?
  • Are those aliens in league with the Martians that interbred with humans?
  • Or are they at war with each other?
  • Is Marvin their leader?
  • Will he drag humanity into an inter-dimensional conflict of proportions that I can't express with language limited to the 4 dimensions of length, width, depth and time?
  • Will we need to learn how to travel through time to fight back and ensure our survival?
  • Or will we need to ascend to a higher dimensional plane of existence so that we can look upon time much as we look at a timeline on a piece of paper?
  • Is this inter-dimensional war fueled by the Illuminati?
  • And are the Illuminati trying to stop mankind from ascending and fighting in this war because they themselves are inter-dimensional parasites that feed off of human suffering like a psychic vampire?

As you can see, there are many unanswered questions that the Mars rover can answer for us! ;D :P

No it is, I - erm, the spirit of L. Ron Hubbard - trying very hard here to provide relief from the past problems caused us by the spirits of space aliens, so that we can realise Operating Thetan. Cursed be Lord Xenu!

...Mmmmmm...Far out, man - this sh*t is goood!

Ha! You laugh now!

But did you know that there are over 200 "sunken cities" in the Mediterranean Sea? So we know that sea level was much lower in the past.

  • Is one of those cities Atlantis?
  • Did the Atlanteans get into an interplanetary war with the Martians?
  • Did the Martians in a suicide attack open up a wormhole to Earth and dump all the water on Mars onto Earth, thus flooding and drowning all the Atlanteans?
  • Does that help explain Noah's Ark?
  • Was Noah a renegade defector from Atlantis?
  • Was Noah able to predict the future?
  • Were all Atlanteans psychic, or just Noah?

There are many, many questions for the Curiosity Mars rover to answer! And each and every question is still far saner than anything found in the world of IP/copyright/patent/MAFIAA. ;D :P

Perhaps Alex Jones can give them a Skeksi Award for their efforts. :D

But did you know that there are over 200 "sunken cities" in the Mediterranean Sea? So we know that sea level was much lower in the past.

They were most likely the direct result of the previous inhabitants of idiotic monkeys creating their own incident of global warming which came to a head (destroying the planet) during an Olympic farting contest.

Now as far as the alien invading force... That will most likely - due to a massive miscalculation of scale - be swallowed in its entirety by a small dog.
