Sysrestore by Xia Software (new disk snapshot program)
« on: June 23, 2012, 09:39 PM »
I've learned of a new snapshot program called Sysrestore thanks to Wilders Security Forums. Its Homepage is http://www.sysnew.com/. Also, here are some pages for it and the maker/marketing guy of it:

Looks fairly good - but I can't find where the company is based.
The English is very bad, maybe it's a chinese company ?

SysRestore Pro has been recommended by Gizmo at techsupport, and is right now offered for FREE:
http://www.techsuppo...free-normally-49.htm

The product is available as a Free or a Pro version.  Going Pro normally costs $49, but if you head to http://www.sysnew.com/sysrestore-pro/ before December 1st you can get it for free.  You'll find the licence code on that page, ready to paste into the free trial program that you can download from a separate link on the site.

Note that you'll need to turn off any similar product that you already use. As for Windows System Restore, if you forget to turn it off before installing SysRestore Pro then the program will offer to do it for you.

In my own tests, the program worked very well.  I set a snapshot, then deleted a handful of files, then chose to restore to the snapshot point.  A few seconds later, and after a restart or 2, my PC was back to its previous state with the files intact.

change of plan:

Get SysRestore Pro Free [Expired]
Updated 23. November 2012 - 16:02 by rob.schifreen

Update: 23rd November:

Although the program mentioned in this review checks out as clean on all 40 of the scanners used by VirusTotal, a couple of users have now mentioned that they received unwanted popups after installing it.

Therefore, this article has now been withdrawn.

(I dont know whether those popup reports were in the comments.)

it is my "believe" (imagination) that they've installed the free version.

I guess I now have to try the program for myself  :-\

I tried it... no popups for me and it seemed to be working as advertised, but I got nervous when the system restarted without warning right after installation. I can't trust a program that does that, can I?

Uninstalled promptly and had to manually re-enable System Restore.

Installed TimeFreeze (free, different beast though) instead.
English will never be my first language, it doesn't meter how hard I try.

Be glad that it re-started your computer without first asking; otherwise you would be without any change to restore your system! And they inform about this on their page, just about an inch below the normal download link, and in the FAQ.

They did ask in their own way, didn't they? :P
