Any DC members thinking of trying Kickstarter?
« on: April 04, 2012, 03:08 PM »
Any DC Members thinking of trying to create a Kickstarter project?  Please let us know if you do so we can help support it.

I'd also be interested in joining a kickstarter project as a programmers if someone came up with a really interesting big one.

I'm sure glad you mentioned Kickstarter - I just found Wasteland 2 and Shadowrun are looking for funding. It must be my month for donations ;)

Yeah... I've been on there a lot; I guess I need to start my articles again :)

Some that I've recently backed/have been looking at that are still open:

Shadowrun Returns - Shadowrun CRPG
Bendi - The iPad Stand Exactly Where You Want - Ipad stand
Mobile Frame Zero: Rapid Attack - Wargaming with legos
Artisan Dice - Carved wooden dice
Wasteland 2 - Sequel to Wasteland the classic CRPG
The Astonishing Adventures of Doc Wilde!!! - Pulp fiction series (a la Doc Savage)
Tectonic Craft Studios New Line of War Games Terrain - Wargaming Terrain
Conquest - Boardgame on your ipad to reduce setup time.
Spriter - Animation tool
The Dead Linger - Zombie Shooter
Starlight Inception - Space Combat Game
Aura Tactics - Unity Tactical RPG
Valdis Story: Abyssal City - Side scrolling video game

And on a side note: something that was started by InXile Entertainment (Wasteland 2 creators) - Kicking it Forward - putting proceeds from Kickstarter projects back into Kickstarter.

I think I'll actually be trying to kickstarter a board/card game project before the year is up.. it's a simple game i've tinkered with for a while and after playing it with my family at the latest family gathering, and having a lot of fun, i think it's worth giving it a try.  i can handle the production of pieces/cards, but i would like to find someone who has the special skills at making a really polished professional looking kickstarter video for it -- that seems to be critical to success (the pitch video seems at least as important as the content of the game!).

I'm planning to also... for a couple of RPGs/Supplements.  But I'm taking a long view at successful and unsuccessful projects within that sphere.  If you're looking to do a board/card game, you might want to look at the list of games on Kickstarter and get similar information.

Some resources that I've found:

http://www.purplepawn.com/

http://www.kicktraq.com/

http://danielsolisblog.blogspot.com/ especially the following posts:

http://danielsolisbl...s-5-kickstarter.html
http://danielsolisbl...reelance-market.html
http://danielsolisbl...y-im-postponing.html (and all of the posts tagged utara)
http://danielsolisbl...of-writers-dice.html
http://danielsolisbl...cing-content-as.html
http://danielsolisbl...-momentum-after.html
http://danielsolisbl...-video-for-game.html

I hope those help!

Does kickstarter accepts non-us or international gigs? If yes, then maybe I can push few ideas.

I know at one time they didn't which was the appeal of indiegogo.

I've just posted about the little card game idea I want to kickstart: https://www.donation...ndex.php?topic=32122
I'd love some help!

ps. Regarding international use of kickstarter -- apparently they are going to open up kickstarter to international projects very soon (2012).

Kickstarter do support projects outside the US - I have just subscribed to a project based in York in the UK.

See http://www.kickstart...ents-curse-adventure (sorry but I like the Broken Sword series of games !)

Having said that it all seems to be handled via the US and payments for that project went through Amazon US payment system.

That's the problem that I think a lot of people have.  Amazon US payment for out of country payments is sort of sketchy.  I would guess that UK was fine... but get beyond that...

Regarding the Broken Sword kickstarter project that Carol mentioned: it's a very high-quality project. Take a look at the embedded video here.
