.Free domain names are free? What is catch?
« on: January 20, 2012, 06:49 PM »
Not sure what this is all about - just heard about it today - but they appear to be preregistering .free domain names. For free. I'm assuming there must be a catch...but none is obvious at this point (to me). I joined...perhaps foolishly...and no apparent evil manifested immediately.

Anybody heard anything about this??

It doesn't seem to guarantee you the domain.  Go back and try "Pre-Register" the same domains while logged out ^_^ (If your using dotfree.com btw)

Great way to harvest information for spam.

Password can only be 12 characters max. . .

General availability: November 2013. That's almost 2 years from now.

Yes, but the promised not to... (hehe)

Password can only be 12 characters max. . .

With very limited special characters allowed ... Yeish! (agreed)

General availability: November 2013. That's almost 2 years from now.

Meh, it'll probably take me that long to figure out what to do with the domains.  :D

I guess I'll be Guinea Pigging this one ... and will let you know if/when my mail server explodes.  :o

I used an alias e-mail to signup...If they decide to spam me, its a simple case of delete and move on :P

That too is an idea. But I've actually started to enjoy the spam a bit now that it helps me plan my day. Oh look a new and clever infected attachment scam ...Don't try to start anything new... It's gonna be a busy day for tech support. :)
