I Finally Got A New PC!
« on: January 06, 2012, 02:47 AM »
Just thought I would share my new system specs since, for the first time ever...I am proud of my PC haha!

AMD Athlon II X4 645 3.10Ghz CPU
6GB DDR3 RAM (Dunno why but I only have 5.74 Usable...?) (Got another 8GB en route!)
Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit
ATI Radeon HD GFX (On board 256MB Memory...need a new one, but the case is tiny and I need to find a small enough GFX card)
2TB SATA HDD
24" HD Monitor (1920x1080 Resolution) - (Not used to screens this size...everything feels huge!)

Congrats, Stephen! Isn't it a great feeling setting up a brand-spanking-new, shiny PC!?

Congratulations! New toys are always nice to have when starting a new year.

I think I've only had two entirely new PCs in my life so far. (And one was an original IBM PC-XT!) All the others are Franken-PCs that mostly get put together using whatever I have lying around or on my parts shelf. They do get upgraded (and recycled) on a fairly continuous basis however. So while there's often something recently "new" in any given machine, there's only been one other time I can remember when ALL the pieces were purchased new at the same time.

Enjoy your new PC! :)

haha yeah, but it took my mrs until my PC quite literally, refused to work anymore, until she said "OK, go buy a new one!"

Didn't 'need' the new monitor as well...but...it "came with it" (Didn't ask if I ended up paying for it in the final price...) lol

I don't know how beefy of a graphics card you'll be needing, Stephen, but if your needs are modest there are lots of tiny/fanless cards geared for the HTPC market that might fit your needs and they are reasonably priced as well.

I wont take anything less than a 1GB 3D/HD Card :P

So, you've bought a budget CPU, but want to fit a beefy GPU in that machine? O_o

What GPU requiring stuff are you using?

Or, another way to look at it, they are indirectly responsible for subtle acts of sabotage.  ;)
