Image Tile Joiner
« on: November 22, 2011, 02:09 AM »
I have a hard time finding a freeware program where you can joiner images together in nonlinear strip.

Supposedly I have images a,b,c,d,e,f.

I wish to orientate them where I can specify the columns and rows like 2 by 2 or 3 by 2.

ex.

a,b
c,d

or

a,b,c
d,e,f

Try Windows Image Composite Editor (ICE) - a brilliant proggy.
Should be able to do all that you want and more.

Hope this helps or is of use.

I'm not sure if ICE can perform a nonlinear joining of images. :(

Oh.
If your images are not part of the same overall object, then, yes, ICE probably would not help.
I think it figures out the borders/joining points of the pix and then puts them into a logically connected 2D array, for example:
R1C1 R1C2 R1C3
R2C1 R2C2 R2C3
R3C1 R3C2 R3C3

You can give it the pix in any order, I gather, and it will figure out which Row/Column to put things in.

I think it is designed that way, so, if your pix are not actually parts of an overall object, then it probably could not work.

Smobu, you can use my freeware painting program ( http://www.rw-designer.com/image-editor ) for that. The easiest way would be this:
1. open the first image, but instead of opening it normally, use the dropdown arrow on the Open button and select "open as animated image" (or click Create->Create animation after opening the image normally)
2. drag and drop the other images on the lower part of the window on the list of frames to create an animation with all the images
3. click the Animation->Create filmstrip from main menu and then select the number of columns - the program will arrange all the animation frames into a single image in left to right, top to bottom order

Vlastimil,

I hope you will consider one day making an interactive image tiler tool -- you have the skills and background for it.

Ideally it would let people arrange images easily by dragging and dropping them to form grid-like arrangements easily.

That is actually a good idea, this is not the first time I see someone trying to arrange images in a grid. I guess it should be my NANY this year.  ;)

YES YES YES!!

There are many times when this would be useful -- it comes up often in screenshotting -- when you take a few images and would like to combine them in a strip or a grid, etc.

Another vote for an "interactive image tiler"! I've just been more or less asking Rob of Sagelight to add something like that one day, but I'm not really sure it's appropriate to that tool. A dedicated app would work for me as I do it infrequently enough that I wouldn't mind switching to something else for the task.

I think fotofusion v2 is something like what you want. The later versions have too many bells and whistles. v2 has a sizeable grid where you just drag photos onto. Then export the whole thing to an image. Xnview has a contact sheet option or strip of images which can be a mosaic.

I also agree...  That would be a useful tool.

Since it hasn't been mentioned yet in this thread, vlastimill actually wrote this for his NANY 2012 and released it:

Maybe GlueIt would work for you?

Probably anything that is a Sprite-Sheet maker can do it for you.
