Improving Region Select Capture Mode

I'm on record as much preferring to do a full screen grab and then cropping from within the program, but I know a lot of people prefer to use the "Grab Selected Region" mode which shows a crawling-ants rectangular border that you use to select a rectangular region to capture.

Over time people have requested improvements to the selected-region capture operation.

So I'm trying to decide what kind of improvements I can make to it now, without going overboard.

I'd like to hear from people who actually use this capture mode -- and what they think would make life easier for them.

Some suggestions in the past have been:

• Show a crosshairs line from top to bottom and left to right of entire screen where cursor is.
• Dim outside the selected region.

I actually don't like the guidelines, I'd like to see an option to choose the new guidelines or the old crosshair.

Here is an off the wall idea that I don't even know if it would be used or not, but what about identifying the region then doing transforms on it, such as skew, rotate, etc so you can, for example end up capturing a diamond shape instead of an entire rectangle?  Just a thought....

i'm going to draw the line here -- in such cases it's always better to just FIRST do a simple capture -- and then manipulate from within the program, where the program has access to all features like undo, save, etc.

Thats great! I LOVE the new guideline crosshair.

I am one of the "i only want to grab a region guys" and i always started up to grab the minimal bound box, starting e.g. at top left point and drag the area until i notice that at the more right area there is a content that raises higher than the left top point. Starting again to grab new.  

Now with the new full screen guidelines that won't happen again.
