Firefox 3.6.13 Flash Crash
« on: December 20, 2010, 06:10 PM »
Anyone else noticed that firefox 3.6.13 seems to crash on flash video sites?

Sometimes it will play flash, but when close the page or choose another flash video, firefox will freeze and if you are still on a flash video page, it will show you an error saying flash crashed, click here to send adobe an error report..

I have uninstalled existing flash, and reinstalled from Adobe.. still crashes... and fills up my task manager with plugin-container.exe. >:(

Happens to me regularly.

I've also noticed if I don't stop or pause a flash video before I hit the "previous page" button, FF will frequently sit for several very long seconds before it does anything. About one time in ten it will hang the tab.

After two or three occurrences of the above it will often crash FF so badly I have to hardkill the actual firefox.exe process rather than just do an "end application" in Task Manager. After that, I sometimes also need to kill and restart explorer to unfreeze the desktop. Very bad...

This is the issue, and all the way at the bottom of the page is how to fix it: http://support.mozil...ugin%20has%20crashed

But, by fixing it, you will be allowing flash to take down your whole browser if it should crash for real.

edit: the page says it won't do that, used to say it would.

Try turn off that container, can be done for each plugin - enable 1st line then, set to "true".

user_pref("dom.ipc.plugins.enabled", false);
user_pref("dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npctrl.dll", false);
user_pref("dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npqtplugin.dll", false);
user_pref("dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll", false);
user_pref("dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.nptest.dll", false);

Paste in user.js and Firefox will not crash for that reason ;)

And/or try Flash 10.2 beta http://labs.adobe.co...ogies/flashplayer10/ Can't get any worse.

@app103

Tried that.. no worky.. though I am building up an impressive list of plugin-container.exe in my task manager. :o Thanks for trying to find a solution.

@Bamse

Woohoo!! You did it! Firefox doesn't hang nor does it add any additional plugin-container.exe to my task manager. Just watched various sample youtube videos and things went smooth.  8) Thanks!!

I haven't rebooted yet.. (only way to clear the plugins collection).

Process Explorer is your friend. Close Firefox, then use Process Explorer to kill all the plugin-container.exe's.  No rebooting necessary. ;)
