I didn't thought money back guarantee would make senses on a $5 product with a trial period  :P. I always feel badges and offer like this feel a little bit spammy. But I'll add something to the site to see if it change anything.

Thank you a lot for the big picture on the value of $5. It's very difficult to have an idea of the value of money when you never lived in that country.

I'm also working on a sister site for SwiffOut, it'll be an flash arcade game website where SwiffOut would be free unlimited. Arcade website are websites that host free flash games (I ignored that name until two days ago ). This would help I think because I could promote SwiffOut as a completly free product with an extended version instead of a limited time only version. Arcade website also have ad ecosystem that is very cheap (like 1/2c per click - instead of 80c per click on facebook ), and the demographic is very good for SwiffOut.

Did you reinstalled recently lanux ? The installer should take care of the installation of new versions (firefox can't do it when extensions are distributed as a setup ). But the first versions failed at it in the early versions.

No I'll probably add something to handle the update automatically later. However if you play a game, I display the current version on the intermediate page to inform you of new release.

I definitely agree that the money-back guarantee would not make sense, it was just an example.  I think you might be on to something with the SwiffOut free edition thing though.  Something where you get to try it unlimited for free, but if you want the full version you can buy it for $5.  I think that is a VERY GOOD move.  Oh, and glad I could help with the value of $5.  I understand how it can be difficult. When I first lived outside my own country, I had difficulty too.  That was when and how I developed my system.  I always found exchange rates didn't help as much as it seemed it should. When I found comparing to a basket of goods like I did worked, I started to use that whenever possible.

SwiffOut now has a sister website http://swiffoutgames.com where you can play flash games fullscreen for free (swiffout is unlimited on this website, it will not display dialogs or expire ). SwiffOut Games is also integrated with SwiffOut to make things a little bit easier.

I also changed the limitation, you can now try SwiffOut ten times on websites other that SwiffoutGames. I think that, it makes more sense, since you may use SwiffOut Free for a long time before trying it to use it on other websites. It also means that the expiration time has been resetted, so if you tried a version before you can download the new one and use your ten plays when you want to.

I filtered a lot games and found some great ones, if there is some games that you really like, tell me and I'll try to add them.

The free edition is usable on SwiffOut sister website http://swiffoutgames.com  (which I'm very proud of too, because it is very nice I think ) where you can play flash games fullscreen for free (swiffout is unlimited on this website, it will not display dialogs or anything ). SwiffOut Games is also a very special website because it is optimized to work with SwiffOut to make things a little bit easier.

cool!

The difference between the 1.3.0.0 and the precedent version is the unrestricted use of swiffout on swiffoutgames :
So if you have a already working version, you need to install a new one so that it works on swiffoutgames without limitations.

I looked at the page, and I think there might be interaction with the webpage which swiffout can't handle right now.

ecaradec: another question, at the end of installing swiffout, the installer opens a Firefox (default browser) window asking me to restart. so if Firefox wasn't already open, should i restart? just wondering..

The installer can only install plugins when the browser start : if the browser was closed when you ran the installer it'll work immediatly. It's explained in the post install page (but if you ask, it's probably not clear enough ).

I could force to close the browser so that the addons install immediatly, but I often have my browser open with tens of tabs and I wouldn't like that an installer close them all.

SwiffOut is free now : you can get it as http://swiffout.com -  :-* It was fun to sell it, but it doesn't sell enough to really worth the effort. If you really like it a donation is still welcome of course.

hopefully it was a worthwhile experience, it will be in good stead for any future plans for software retailing. :)

Actually I have a test mode parameter that switch to playing in a window. But right now it is a window without border, so you won't be able to move it. But it's really doable.

will you be adding this feature? it'd be nice if you did because sometimes i play the game as windowed with no borders or captions. much easier to alt-tab and check on other stuff.

something like this:

I actually add it but it's not full screen... The issue is that flash games are not performant enough to play full screen without switching the resolution. I might do a special build if you want to try ;)

Never underestimate the value of an experiment, even when it yields negative results.  If more of us were smart and brave enough to experiment with ideas when we still have time to learn from them we would all be better off.  Here's a toast to your next experiment!

Thanks mouser, I hope I'll do better the next time,

I will pursue working on it a little bit anyway, I've found a way to detect the size of the flash more reliably by reading the header of the swf. This is something that can't be done by simple extensions.

I would like to try to conserve the ratio of games, it's not always correct depending of the resolution of the game (I have no solution for this right now )

I will also make extension package instead of an installer, so that I could upload them to extension websites, and it could be a little bit easier to install.

@ecaradec: i stumbled across this page and noticed that it's a newer version (1.6.0.3) than the one on the website (1.5.0.4). just wondering if it is just a Chrome-specific version..
