I think something else must be causing your problem dayless.. some problem with explorer displaying icons..
If you open up windows explorer and browse around, do you see proper icons?

Did the prior version of FARR show correct icons? I can re-upload the old version to test if needed.

yeah, the explorer shows proper icons.

lets try with the older version. i think 24th of september or earlier should be alright.

[BugFix] FARR would not launch files with hidden spaces at the END of the filename.
[BugFix] FARR was not showing proper icons for shortcuts that use custom icons.
[Change] Changed default heuristic score of folder as % of file score from 90 to 50, because folders were showing up above files in some cases.
[Documentation] Added info about using CapsLock to trigger FARR.
[MinorFeature] Added option to not launch results via function keys.

I just updated to the latest version. It still says to check option in the General Tab to copy selected text on startup. I had to find my post in this thread to find out how to do it again.

The Option is in Hotkeys, Pause/Break

Edit: I used the zip file. Perhaps it was updated in the installer. I don't know.

Minor update, mostly bugfixes:
Version 2.206.01 - Jan 7, 2013

[MinorFeature] Added option to not differentially score different results within a single alias when using regex filtering option for the alias.
[MinorFeature] Added some plugin settable/getable values to bypass % variable replacement: showhtmlraw, rawuservar, launchmeta
[BugFix] Plugins were not being given a chance to act on explicit directory browsing.
[BugFix] querynokeywords being passed to plugins was not correct, it was including keywords.
[BugFix] AppCapAppendMemo functions were starting out with "Hello" in memo.
[BugFix] AppCap function could hang FARR if it was repeatedly invoked many times per second.
[Kludge] You can now use ;;, to separate multiple launch strings when specifying farr:// links inside html pages.

Hello Everybody.
I find trouble with ShellExecute method 2 (new). When I try to open .txt file from find result window selected file was opened in standard MS notepad.exe

I switched to ShellExecute method 1 and everything working (I have dafault application set to notepad++ in operating system).

Minor beta update:

Version 2.211.01 BETA - August 26, 2013

[BugFix] In previous versions an english language keyboard layout could be loaded at startup and not unloaded in some cases.
[Change] FARR used to have a setting for periodic update checking; periodic update checking is no longer supported. Starting with this version there is a new setting on the initial General Options tab that says whether an update check should be performed at program startup. If user wants to check for updates more frequently they can trigger an update check explicitly from the options dialog or tray menu.
[BugFix] FARR will not minimize on loss of focus when options form is visible.
[BugFix] Autocomplete of directories on network mapped drives was not adding trailing \ character (thanks josh).

I'm making the rounds doing updates on my apps -- FARR is getting just a minor update this round, but i expect to be doing some more substantial improvements in the coming months so stay tuned.

[Tweak] Option to use generic filetype icons for network drives listed in options to avoid slowdowns.
[Tweak] Improved icon lookup times (but still some improvements remain to be done, stay tuned).
[Tweak] Added tweaks+debugging tab in options.

Stay tuned, I'm considering doing some major improvements and moving to version 3..

Back on FARR now. Launchy seems to be dead. Initially I switched due to Launchy's better performance, but that seems to have improved...

Any chance for a better font display on the options window/status bar? It could need more blur.

I have released a new beta -- first in a long time.
Some bug fixes, some new features, and a couple of changes that MIGHT break things -- so let's see...

Version 2.217.01 - Mar 18, 2015

[Feature] FARR now understands how to search certain windows registry keys to find lists of recently saved documents and recently run applications; if configured in search folder paths it will search these lists quickly. You can also view them explicitly by typing: "historyr". See the "History" option tab for more information and options.
[Feature] You can now customize the fixed font used when memo display is showing fixed font output (such as when displaying result of console output, appcap output, etc.).
[Feature] You can now drop files onto the search edit box and it will append them to existing search comments.
[Feature] Alias results can now contain % environmental variables.
[BugFix] Reset to defaults option on custom font settings tab was not resetting all options.
[BugFix] Hint for "Use generic icons for folders" option was wrong.
[BugFix] Option for "Do not add network drive paths to lauch history (they can slow search)" under Settings/Search Behavior was not being saved.
[BugFix] Right-click menu items for custom alias entries with custom /ICON values were not triggering correctly.
[Change] Changed the way shortcut (.lnk) icons are resolved for display -- waiting for reports if this helps or hurts.
[MinorFeature] Added special search modifier +launchone that will launch the matching alias as soon as there is only one result in display.

I guess probably the one interesting thing to try is typing: historyr
This will now show recent files saved/loaded from the Windows OS save/load dialog [as found in the system registry] and could be a nice way to find files when you can't remember the name of what you are looking for.
These files are also searched for as if they are cached, so they should come up in results quickly and with higher scores.
[note also the previous keywords: historys and historyl will show your last searches and launches, so this fits right in].

Now I changed the way shortcut icons are resolved -- this fixes an issue where shortcuts has custom icons that weren't being shown.. however it is not clear to me whether this will break anything, so please let me know if you notice that the new FARR is not showing icons correctly in some cases (especially for shortcut .lnk files).

I hope to update FARR more rapidly now that i have somewhat re-acquainted myself with the code..

I havent used this machine in about a week which maybe affects the results - keeping that in mind:

mru plugin using mrua shows:
   a) recent files from today and yesterday
   b) recent files from previous time machine was used (last week)

historyr shows:
   1) recent files from today and yesterday
   2) dopus and dopus viewer exe (from 64bit programme folder)**
   3) lots of exe files from my download folder mostly dating around 2012 - and most of which (or maybe all) have not been accessed in years (FWIW see shot below)

** It is not showing other apps I used since install of beta.

Yeah those exe files are coming from a registry key that is looking less and less useful unfortunately.. i'll probably change it to ignore those.

the mru plugin is much nicer all around, the main benefit of this being built into farr now is that these recent documents will always be searched quickly when you do a general search and get bonus scores -- so they will come up instantly and be highly ranked when you search for them -- rather than only appearing when you explicitly list them.

Launch, stay open and continue searching! (ctrl dbl click should keep FARR open and keep populating results)

I suppose you're right that it would be a good idea to have some way to launch and tell FARR to keep searching.. i'll add it.
