Looking for a Profile Desktops

Is there a software where you can have a Profile Desktop?

* where you can relocate Desktop Files as a "separate folder" in your hard drive

* where you can select a Desktop Profile with a Zoom In and Zoom Out Function (Zoom Out is the Desktop Selector or an overview of all profiled desktops, Zoom In is the current selected desktop with shortcuts/files/folders/orThemes)

* a Profile Desktop is generally to organize your files from Work/Projects/Gaming/Internet/ETC as it is very useful for people whose desktop is full of files/folders

Let me take a stab at it, as I *think* I understand what psionics is requesting...

Similar to the way every Windows user gets their own desktop & start button, this would be an easy way to swap desktop layouts.  Users could define "work", "play", "media playback" (etc) profiles and activate them whenever the computer's role needs to change.

All without setting up separate user accounts or using that dreadful "fast user switching" feature in Windows.

Am I close?

main difference i believe not using Virtual Desktops is that programmes shown in taskbar aren't affected

I don't see how you could do it without virtual desktops? Maybe it's refined virtual desktops? Unless you mean when I switch roles, everything in the gaming section is ended/killed when I switch to media role.

I have no idea - I've never even used Virtual desktops cause they're overkill for what I had in mind

eg I could have my empty desktop,
shift+Tab or whatever to Graphics, office, tools

I think psionics has a similar idea but with a fancier gui

Dunno the cube in the picture reminded me of Beryl/Compiz Fusion. Though I don't think there's a way to indicate a seperate icon set for each desktop yet in there either..

.. the idea is just to switch desktop.. (I think, tapping the edge of the desktop or a backspace to go back to overview mode..)

.. and to relocate the desktop in a separate folder (e.g. D:\Desktop\productive_desktop\)

.. overview mode, as i can see it, will only act as a shortcuts to the profiled desktop folders.. ideas: widgets, image maps ~ any imaginations

.. RE: "Virtual Desktop" = nope, this is using only 1 taskbar for opened windows and just browsing a different desktop folders.. (from Tomos: "programmes shown in taskbar aren't affected") is right

.. the cube came from HTC Touch idea(i'm thinkin about a "medium size frame for in-frame window" then it will overlap the cube's edge when rotated.. designs ideas.. NOT related to this "desktop profiles" btw)

I think You can actually create something like that in Stardock DesktopX

multiple desktops will be available in desktop right click with different icons(links),
and, if i remember well, even widgets etc.; moreover they load pretty fast

DesktopX is too much if ur using a UMPC  or maybe good for fast computers

Dexpot allows you to run commands when you switch desktop, so i suspect you could get it to swap files in and out, but performance would probably suck (unless it was just shortcuts). But I can imagine swapping in / out desktop shortcuts and shortcuts in the startbar would work OK.    if changing the real desktop to a separate folder is very complicated, how about not touching it and create another replica of it in a separate desktop files/folders environment functions(taskbar is not affected).. "Profiled" desktop somehow similar to windows login profile user's files/folders environment, but the idea is organizing a single profile's work desk.. a separate "work desk"(table desk) for each type of work profiles.. i hope/wish there's a coder out there who can work it to something like this: (click it ~ to show)

it is pretty cheap though - he even states "give a good reason and get visidesk for free"

still, a more modern version of this coded by you would be even better
