Find And Run Robot / Re: TalkAboutShareware thread
« Last post by rrtwister on December 09, 2005, 07:29 PM »
I just went and read the entire thread and can only say that there are some really anal retentive people that just do not get the philosophy behind the DonationCoder concept. I am just an end user, so I cannot speak for how it feels to have people try justify using my hard earned work for free and complain about coming back to a site once every 6 months. One thing I do know for certain is that I found DonationCoder in the middle of September of this year and instantly knew that donating was the right thing to do. I have since made more small donations as I could afford (I have been out of work since Febuary of this year). Not trying to toot my own horn, but just telling it as it is. I believe in supporting people that are trying to do the right thing. Mouser has made me feel more than welcome in the DonationCoder community and that I really do appreciate. There are many people that are always there to help and give advice, Carol, brotherS and skrommel just to name a few. Even though alot of the forum goes over my head technically, I have never found any attitude when I ask for a simple explanation of something. This is truly a community where one is made to feel like they are an important part from day one.

Excellent choices.

I have been using Hosts Toggle for some time. It is a little bit of an older program, but works great for me. It can be found at http://accs-net.com/hosts/HostsToggle/

Just give me the Freeware License keys - what a waste of bloody time!

Sounds like quite a nice fellow. Maybe he does not understand the culture of this growing community.

I will definately give this a try. It will sure beat using the js imagine routine that simply makes your address an image.

brotherS,
thanks for the great find. Works beautifully. Now added to my utility cd for when I have to help out my friends. Things like this make my life so much easier.

Carol,
might I ask what you used to make the logo for Swaledale Outdoor Club?

A scanner  :-[

It's off the letter head of the club ...

Thanks. The reason I asked is that I was thinking of trying use that format and put the bird in the middle and www.DonationCoder.com where the text was. One of my major drawbacks is that I am about as artistic and creative as a cement block. Just thought I would see how it would turn out.

.I'm using the bat right now, decent, though not perfect (they seriously need a better update system),and someone tell me how to disable that splash screen.

I got the following info from http://www.ritlabs.c.../idx/47/094/article/

It is possible to start The Bat! without the splash screen?
Yes, it is possible to start The Bat! without the splash screen. In order to
achieve that it is necessary to use the Command Line in a Shortcut. Usually
looks like this:

"C:\Program Files\The Bat!\thebat.exe"

If the Shortcut is located in the Windows Startup folder, and you want to switch
off the The Bat! startup Logo by adding the /NOLOGO parameter, so the "Target"
property of the shortcut becomes something like this:

"C:\Program Files\The Bat!\thebat.exe" /NOLOGO

Living Room / Re: A Request For Your Help In November - Everyone Please Read In
« Last post by rrtwister on November 10, 2005, 09:37 AM »
I found another small way to help spread the word. I was talking to a tech on my ISP's national help desk about a browsing issue at a friend's house. Some sites were loading extremely slow. We decided to pull a few sites at random, so guess which site i pulled at first? DonationCoder of course. The tech was pulling the same sites and she was impressed with the site and was bookmarking it to dig thru later. She completely liked the entire idea behind the site and was going to pass it on to a couple of other techs.

The point to my rambling is that promotion of the site is so easy and it does not have to be forced on anyone.

server is back up.

again, i appreciate the patience - I'm trying to get everything set up properly now rather than have troubles later.

again, I am comfortable saying that the vast majority of us really do appreciate all of the hard work that is being done to make the entire DonationCoder experience even better. Although we may not express it enough, I say like the old Siskel & Ebert movie reviews,

As for myself, I feel that I have received far more in return for my donations than I expected. I guess we can all see from fw190a's 1 and only post that he/she probably is a little on the "less stable" side of things and we are better off without him/her trying to bring us down.

Long live DonationCoder

on the top navbar of every page on site i've now added a direct link to our Links page, seemed like a good idea given how much of an ephasis we place here on sharing information about good sites.

Excellent idea. It truly does amaze me how much and how rapidly DonationCoder is growing. It really does give one a good feeling to belong to a site with such a distinguished group of individuals coming together as a team.

It was easy enough to find at least one. What the heck in Azureus? The site doesn't have an "About" page.

Azureus is a bit torrrent client. http://azureus.sourceforge.net/

get yourself some of those compressed air canister and blow out your computer insides and fans occassionally.

As crazy as it sounds, I actually use a 6hp shop vac with the hose reversed as a blower on all my pc's about every 6 months. I learned from experience that I should do this in they garage instead of the house (can you say major dust mess) and it is best to remove the optical drives first as they are not sealed. Maintain a little distance and use your hand as a diffuser. Works like a charm for me, but as with anything computer related, it is at your own risk.

I love these forums, I keep finding some really cool software that even Google can't seem to find.

I agree, although I am finding that the people I am meeting through the forum are even better. Lots of help, kindness and pleasant posts. This site is definately a big winner.

Any recommendations on what to use (preferably donationware and EASY to figure out how to use) for doing hard drive backup? I admit that I am guilty of never doing back ups in windows. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
