bob,

i'm having trouble reproducing that problem and i really would like to identify it and fix it.
can you experiment some more and see what you can figure out about what might trigger the problem and the conditions that cause it and any clues you might be able to find? maybe try using the caption button within the program to see if that has the same effect?

I have uploaded a 25 minute rambling video tour of some of the new features in the new version 3.20 (March 3, 2013) , for those who might be interested.

Ok I think it's nearly time to release this to public -- last chance to save me some embarrassment by finding some showstopper bugs.

ok i should be able to have a new build in the next few days that fixes the problem seen with large fonts.

Finally, one quick question, is there a way to add multiple picture objects to the screenshot (e.g. highlight, arrow, or text box) without having to select the object button each time an object is added?

Yes, you can change the default behavior by going to the "Drawing Object Options" tab and UNCHECKING the optin "Switch to Object Selection mode after a new object is inserted".
9881
Can you confirm that the fix includes the SCC portable *.zip version?
yes, i always upload new versions of both.

Regarding your suggestion to use %num0% to generate the incremental number counter e.g. '001' regardless of whether there is a conflicting filename did indeed work for me. I would have had no idea that this was an option since it was not included in the Available Fields in Preferences.

I need to undo that advice -- I realized that i didn't mean to change existing behavior.

You should go back to using %num% whenever you want to ALWAYS include a number.

Alternatively you can use %_num% and %bnum% when you only want to include a number if its needed to avoid a conflict.
I have added these to list of tokens and will document in help file.

New version uploaded should fix the directory problem.  Can't thank you folks enough for finding these bugs!
9883
ok i see what you mean, changing directories by double clicking folders in the thumbnail panel is no longer actually changing the directory that SC thinks it is in.
9884
The Window-title doesn't show the actual directory selected in the browser on the left

I'm confused as to what you are saying -- the SC window title shows the directory you are currently in or the full path to the current file.  Doesn't it? Shouldn't it?

The solution to the caption object being too wide after performing a vertical splice is to not perform a vertical splice after adding a caption. That's a first world problem in the Screenshot Captor universe.  :P

Exactly what app says.

If you are nervous you can always let McAfee delete the file without any ill effect - it's only used if you use the Nircommand menu in your launchbar which adds commands for doing things like restarting computer or starting screensaver, etc.

So close to being ready to release.. Just need a few more testers to put it through it's paces and discover any new bugs i've missed!

bubba, regarding #1 not saving between reboots -- i stand corrected!  i just found and corrected a long-standing bug preventing settings saving on reboot.  thank you for your comment about this.

I figure it's me just talking to myself on this thread so why bother sticking to the rules..

Correction:

It seems that SC *can* in fact load ASF files and play and extract frames from them.. BUT there appears to be a bug dealing with ASF files that have no audio track.  As long as the video has been recorded with audio it will load, at least for me.

Can you test and see if you have the same results?
9891
Ok quick answers:

Somehow I have overlooked the fact that the SC video component does not seem to be able to decode ASF files, only AVI files.  So that means that you are not going to be able to load the video into SC, unless you change to recording AVI.  Though note that installing a lossless AVI codec as explained on the forum and in help file for ESR will get you the best results.

Ok, so having said that -- the answer to your other question is to launch ESR from within Screenshot Captor tool menu -- you should find it's in the Tool menu of SC automatically.  Even if you don't load the video into SC, if you save frames from the video inside ESR preview window, they should appear in the SC screenshot folder automatically for editing (that will work even if you use ASF, as long as you extract the frames from ESR instead of trying to use SC to do it).

cmpm's tip is the best first thing to look at -- right click on the desktop and choose refresh, or otherwise try to get it to REFRESH it's view of the desktop -- maybe even by rebooting if you have to.

if you then see the files, then you know you have one kind of problem (the Operating System is not refreshing desktop when it should).

if you still don't see the files, then you have a different problem -- desktop files are not stored where you are looking.
9893
I noticed that some recent changes i made to the options form in the way it displayed when main form was not visible were causing some problems with some options editing, so i've uploaded a new version with an attempt to fix that.

bubba:
1. i hope this is just a fluke - SC should be remembering all settings now even across reboots.  Might be on reboot it ran your old install of screenshot captor?

2. %num% tries to replace to a blank string unless it NEEDS to use a number; you can force use of starting value of 001 by using %num0%

3. i'll have a look.

Continuing a theme, I want to post today about a quick non-water-bucket mop.

The one I just got is the Swiffer WetJet, which is $20 and uses disposable pads and proprietary cleaning solution that triggers at push of a button.

11AvOAODO8L.jpg

This does not have the cleaning ability of a normal strong mop, but it seems to do a surprisingly good job, and most of all it's 1000x more convenient than using a normal water-bucket mop.. So for those of you like me who would just never ever ever mop, it's a real winner.  It falls into that category of chores that would never get done without something quick and portable like this.

There are several different brands available -- I have no reason to prefer one over the other -- and you might try one with washable pads or which doesn't require hacking to use your own cleaning solution.

Very neat.. nice watching it come together live.
9896
As for the integration, it sure would be cool if I chose the same ScreenShots folder as I use for the Screenshot Captor, and then it could open up the Captor window after recording a video and do the preview of the video right there with the nice folder display on the side.

it should already do that, should look something like this:
Screenshot 3_5_2013 , 2_22_21 PM.png

You might need to be running the new beta release to see the feature.

I think it's related to the problem yes, and if so i should be able to fix.
If you wouldn't mind testing changing it to normal 100% and rebooting and see if that fixes the problem, that would help.
If we confirm that is the cause of the problem then i can solve it.
9898
That's more like it :)

Thanks for the patience and the testing, I appreciate it.  Now we can get to tracking down the *real* bugs  :P
9899
Actually, can you re-download yet again and see if the height is fixed now?
9900
Ok the width is fixed, thats good and the important thing.
I haven't the slightest idea why your form is so tall -- on my windows 7 test i reproduced your width problem when i set the text size larger, but i can't for the life of me get the height problem to reproduce -- the form is normal height on my windows 7 test machine with large text settings..
