Living Room / Re: Benford's Law
« Last post by tomos on February 28, 2008, 08:00 AM »
intereseting read

odd last paragraph there, after putting so much effort into explaining it all,
they more or less say - in a very throwaway manner - dont worry it's all rubbish
9802
me, I think Arial would be good - give it a go and see,
Macs dont have Arial so I dont know what happens there...prob gets replaced by courier think that's their default font or maybe depends on browser.
But you're mainly windows at the moment so I wouldnt worry bout that

I was aiming to get rid of the dull, usual fonts that are "web-safe"

you've done that with the header or whatever it's called, after that, you're allowed be dull ;D

Anyone else know which fonts are fairly universal on windows PCs ?

« Last post by tomos on February 27, 2008, 11:42 AM »
hmm, it didnt recognise Times New Roman for me....

BTW
If you are using it, it wont accept an image with more than 30 characters

Also says there's a forum if you need further help so that's good
9805
The text is Arial I believe (I had to pick a generic font for the main text)

not here it isnt :P

Brandon001.png

looks like Times here - something serify at any rate - maybe it's Arial there :tellme:

half the world hates comic sans (at least half the world) - I wouldnt use that...

EDIT/ it is Times New Roman (here)...

tomos, how is that steelpad one? Was it expensive?

this one (Steelseries QCK - you get it rolled up) is 31 x 27cm
I even find that a little big
think it cost about 10euro but you can get it cheaper online - or get a smaller one - but with delivery then...

I like it but I've been using junky ones for years - used to have one with gel-cushioning on the side but it forced my wrist up which I found not so good

you'll need a desk extension there nudone ;)

I like those "floppy" mouse pads, got one lately, (steelpad) and have the edge of my table rounded so I can let it hang(out) over the edge

You might find it helpful to know that yellow is the favourite colour of the insane  :o
-cranioscopical (February 26, 2008, 04:30 PM)
oh dear ;D and the creative too, hopefully
the site Della links to says
Light yellow is associated with intellect, freshness, and joy

how many windows do you have in the room? is there a lot of natural light?
quite bright,
"Under the roof" as they say here, wall sloping up to ceiling, with a big Velux window
maybe as you say "pale blue, or seafoam green would be calming and unobtrusive"

but I dont think I'll go for the pink ljbirns, interesting read though :D

thanks all for the tips, reading and wishes :)

Living Room / Re: USB Flash Drives: What to look for or avoid.
« Last post by tomos on February 27, 2008, 02:25 AM »
Thanks for the link. I'll obviously take your word on the speed difference since you own both but here's something interesting I read in another review...

The red Flash Voyager GT that landed on my desk was pretty much the same as the blue Flash Voyager that was sent to me in February. If you can find yourself a blue regular Flash Voyager manufactured toward the end of 2006 you might get lucky as you will be paying the price for a regular Flash Voyager, but actually getting a Flash Voyager GT!
Source

I've read some negative user reports about the older one - "physical" problems with the casing etc - I think it was on Amazon

i know this sounds stupid, but change the floppy drive mount letter?
I'll need to do some research to accomplish this, but thanks

follow mwb's and/or darkgarage's directions for that also
Floppy is traditionally A seems like a good place to keep it maybe? course you could change it to Z if you want it down the end of the list..whatever :)
9812
Please let me know what you think of the site, if I should change the font, etc. :feedback:

[url]http://mazecraze.dcisv.com/

I like it -
the buttons and title text

I have no idea how websites work ... is the text font Times New Roman ?
Looks a bit academic at any rate I would change that if possible ;)
maybe some sans-serif font ? or maybe not :-\

Also I think it would look better with a little bit of a margin on either side

I'm no designer though....so just the old two pennies

General Software Discussion / Re: Why is it so hard to find a decent image organizer?
« Last post by tomos on February 26, 2008, 03:02 PM »
I think we got sidetracked by image viewers :)
Suleika also highly recommends IDImager

I've installed it but havent had time to mess around with it :-[
I know another problem is, as a hobby, photography is already expensive enough - (I'd love Lightroom meself ;))
but of course with the free IDImager I have no excuse

« Last post by tomos on February 26, 2008, 12:45 PM »
I'm moving and it's help with interior decoration I want all right, but -
from the point of view of creating a good work "environment"

who knows, maybe if I paint the walls bright yellow I'll never procrastinate again :-*

anyone got any tips or read any advice along these lines lately ?

PS the ceiling is timbered with medium colour timber (treated -but not shiny varnish)
At the moment wall colour is a cool light blue -direction of turquoise- not bad but a bit bathroomy I think ...

Site/Forum Features / Reporting to Moderater
« Last post by tomos on February 26, 2008, 05:00 AM »
I reported a post/thread to moderater lately
Then I had second thoughts about it but found I couldnt report the same post or any other post in the thread to the moderater
(presumably cause it already reported)

No big deal :) but it would be nice if
you could report more often and/or different posts

or if there was some "Contact moderater" button somewhere where you could send a message

Exif Pro isnt really much good for tagging (I gave up on that aspect of it at any rate)

I would have thought Picassa would be good that you can simply scroll down through all fotos, but I havent used it in  a couple years...

What's that Kodak software EasyShare like?

Me, I dont know of any "easy" photo-software that uses tags :-\

here,
a bit of cross-posting :)

CD Bank Cataloguer

there is development in alpha stage that can be downloaded

corrected website address

something else in that direction - power menu
http://www.abstractpath.com/powermenu/

I use Alt+Spacebar + up arrow twice which sounds complicated but a lot quicker then finding minimise button with mouse, or i right click on prog in taskbar and select option -
it also does: always on top/transparency and change priority as well but I've never used those

with this minor ... whatsthatword?? - caveat!!

I can fix the part about the enter key dismissing the alerts
that would help a lot already -
can you get the window to popup without anything (OK, etc) selected, dont know if that's possible at all..then you'd have to TAB or click

I am thinking of flashing tray icons (suggested by another user), tray balloons, taskbar button flashing...all that stuff I personally hate.  ;D
I hate it too - might be a good reason to use it then ;D e.g. for those times when the window is ignored for longer than a certain time?

Could you try with a new clean profile of FF and set that as default ?
that way your current settings which may have been saved (?) (even though you installed again) shouldnt affect it [I think.. :-\]

can anyone else say whether their firefox automatically unminimizes when a url is launched by another program?

yes, from the tray as well (but I use PowerMenu to minimize)

EDIT/ I also have setting to open in new tab
