Perhaps the built-in, ready-to-hand, familiar tools are adequate for most people, most of the time?
Most of the familiar tools are adequate for most people all the time - because they just don't care to search for a better solution.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Window go out of my way!
« Last post by brotherS on April 13, 2006, 08:20 AM »
I am having a lot of desktop icons, many times a window is covering just the ones I need to access.
Why don't you just use "quick start" icons instead of desktop icons? Or something like DonationCoder's own FARR?

:tellme: I've been using DimSaver for a while, and it always disables itself, brotherS. Can you tell me when this happens?
It happens all the time here :( I did set Windows to execute the screensaver after 5 minutes and when I want to disable it I need to hit Ctrl-Alt-DEL to disable it - no other way...

I'm new to Firefox after having tried it about a year ago and going back to Maxthon. I'm now using both. One thing I love about Maxthon is the ability to store "groups" of bookmarks together and open them all from one link. This is extended with the ability to open a group of pages at startup (rather than just one home page).
In addition to the last post:

You could use the Session Saver extension, that opens Firefox with the tabs you used when you closed it. You could also save 'special interest' sessions and open those up on demand. I like it.

Nice one! Because of the many great plugins I prefer Winamp to listen to music, but Screamer Radio is great to find new stations and to quickly tune in to some, just for fun.

Read my mini-review about MLB: https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=3179.0

MLB... the "how-did-I-live-without-it?" Firefox extension!

It works now, in both directions :D
Then please post the full code here for others to easily see it. Just click on the "#" above.

General Software Discussion / Re: what kind of keyboard you use?
« Last post by brotherS on April 12, 2006, 04:04 PM »
With so many keyboard users here, I feel I'm obliged to mention my MLB Mini-Review here: https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=3179.0

It's the best thing that could happen to you after you bought a nice keyboard (and learned to use it correctly of course :) )

Damn. Some sweet work has been done in here. I've never used AHK. Each time I looked at it it was too much to digest, too much to handle, so I let it be :).
Then it's time to visit the quick-start tutorial: http://www.autohotke...om/docs/Tutorial.htm

DC wasn't built in one night, and AHK is a journey - don't hope to start it some day in the far future, just jump in and enjoy the ride!

I started with very basic stuff and am constantly learning new stuff, whenever I tackle a new challenge.

Yes, you are. ;)

Hehe :D

(of course you could also use the context menu key instead, but I thought you might want to use the mouse one last time ;) )

@Carol: Huh? :) Just try it (if you are using Firefox) - it might look complicated, but it's great fun to use!
OK since you're keen  :-[
-Carol Haynes (April 12, 2006, 11:44 AM)
Try it now, you WILL be satisfied!

If not, money back! Full refund, no questions asked ;)

PS: Just kidding, it's free (you, Carol, know that of course)

PPS: I opened this thread and replied by using the keyboard only, thanks to MLB :)

PPPS: Just when I was about to send it, the forum told me about your additional post. Just go to Tools/Extensions, right-click the new extension there. Many extensions don't add their own menu or stuff to the existing ones.
993
Ok, got it running! :)

The icons being displayed in the tray are a little bit 'off', other than that it's working ok :) Looking forward to see the options mentioned in the first post being implemented at some point in the future.

994
that's normal - bts does not autoconfigure browsers, you have to edit the config file yourself to add yours (it's just a simple text file, see the help for instructions).

i really should add an autoconfig option to next version, i've just been busy.

but shame on you for not rtfm.
I'm just used to apps that are mostly self-explanatory :D

That menu just looked so... *wrong*! If you don't have the time to add autoconfige add a line "you need to config the BrowserTraySwitch.ini  with a text editor. Open the help and read Introduction/Configuring Browsers" when no browser is set already  8)

995
looks like a brilliant idea, only one problem, i use maxthon. the hunt now begins for a similar plugin...
I used to use Avant Browser for a long time - like Maxthon based on IE. Maybe you'd like Firefox too? :)
996
this really seems like a request suitable for browsertrayswitch to me.
don't know why bts wouldnt work for you..
Ok! :) Since you are quite busy now I thought I'd just drop in this request here.

This is how BTS looks here (W2k):

Hi,

I'd like to be able to use a tiny program where I could *once* set the path to the browsers I'd like to use and then just double-click its tray icon to change the default browser.

It could just display a tray message to show which browser had been selected or (would be extra cool, but more work) could display a new icon according on the browser that's being used.

So something like mouser's BrowserTraySwitch (which isn't working on my system), just with a little bit different approach.
998
Or you could just create one AHK script that's writing some kind of indicator to an .ini file and every time the script is executed it changes the device to the one not being selected the last time.
Yes, but that would force Moerl to switch the options only though this script, or it wouldn't do things right.
True, but since he was referring to doing it manually as a "pain in the ass", I hardly doubt he will ever do it again without a good working script! :D
999
@BrotherS: actually, in opera, i also use a similar thing to that. When i press comma ',' i can write the name of the link, and it gets selected. :D
But isn't typing a 2- or 3-digit number ~218% faster? At least? 8)
1000
That looks very nice, a good way of browsing. I do something similar myself, with opera, but i have to cycle through all the links.
That was the way I was doing it before... and it *sucked* a lot! :o

@Carol: Huh? :) Just try it (if you are using Firefox) - it might look complicated, but it's great fun to use!
