General Software Discussion / Re: Video Editing software - Any recommendations?
« Last post by cmpm on April 05, 2010, 03:43 PM »
No thanks on any nch software.
Made that mistake once, that was enough to remember to stay away.

I like Pictomio, not bad as an organizer either.
Enough options in the library tab to checkout.
Plus it can handle as many pics you have.

Here's one found while browsing some other forums on image organizing.

General Software Discussion / Re: Windows 8 Requests
« Last post by cmpm on April 02, 2010, 01:40 PM »
Life Rocks just posted this today.

http://www.nirmaltv....-7-taskbar-settings/

I pretty sure that's where I found the other two I posted.

People are making these for a reason.
I'd say some flexibility built into Windows 8 is needed.

General Software Discussion / Re: How long is 'temporary'?
« Last post by cmpm on March 28, 2010, 06:57 PM »
Going by date is a good idea.
I don't have any files in that temp folder, today anyway.
I use a couple of other cleaners periodically.
But I would not want to suggest something that does any damage,
or perceived damage.
Plus that's Vista, which I've not used or tried,
although W7 shows as Vista 7. something in some programs.

hm, I'd suggest having a Pro look at it then

Post the problem here and see what the techs say.

http://www.geekstogo...om/forum/forums.html

in this topic

http://www.geekstogo...a-Windows-7-f79.html

You have to register to post, but it is free as well and the help from the techs is free.

Sometimes a novice (like me) may try to help, but wait for a tech, their validation icon will be under their name when they post. You'll see what I mean just browsing the forums and seeing the threads.

Or here, same deal, but I would not post it on both.

General Software Discussion / Re: updating Firefox plugins sucks!
« Last post by cmpm on March 28, 2010, 11:27 AM »
20 extensions and my FF does ok.
I trashed the useless ones and unused ones a long time ago.

The only plugins that I care about keeping up to date are,
adobe flash and Java.

And, sorry, CleanMem works.
Idling at 70,000kb to 90,000kb or so anytime I look.
More depending on how many tabs are open, about 10,000kb a tab I figure.

Minimizetotray Plus helps immeasurably.
https://addons.mozil...S/firefox/addon/2831
It works, so sticking with it.

Download this and run it. If you want to.
It's a temp folder cleaner, ready to run after download.
No install.

http://www.geekstogo...ldTimer-file187.html

Then see if the temp files you speak of are there.

This came up at Life Rocks this week.

Seems it should be capable, but doesn't say it will do what you are saying with usb.
Plenty of options with this 'PureSync'.
It stays running in the background, and I could not find an option for it not to.
Except via msconfig, which worked so it would not autostart with windows.

There is a lot of tasks that can be done with it.
Looks like it anyway.
Thanks.

#4 has a watch folder option

it may work like you want it to....

Here's 5, not sure about the delete archive.

If you did it at one time, how?
And why does it not work now, just curious.

I'm not so sure about that site for plugin updates.
Didn't know it was there till now though.
It said I needed an updated plugin that didn't need an update.
And as you have seen, it doesn't recognize many plugins.

I keep an eye on the filehippo.com feed for some of them.
Other then that I'd think when a plugin is called on, whatever is using it would alert for an update.

General Software Discussion / Re: A new approach to reduce NTFS fragmentation
« Last post by cmpm on March 25, 2010, 11:04 AM »
Need more info on what they are trying to accomplish really.

Like this statement-

Many users has to format their disks "every now and then" for a fresh copy of the disk. This is an evidence that something is wrong with the current storage management system.

Makes no sense at all regarding fragmented files.
Automatic defrag programs are abundant.
Storage Management is the key topic I guess.
Perhaps something that monitors the state of what they are saying here-

changes in Data Quality measured by the fragmentation level is correlated to the activity rate of the computer
968
I think I understand.....

Like 'folders view' on the left of explorer,
you would like the right click options to be similar.
Or even a button to push like folders view,
and have a right click view button.
969
assuming you don't need to lock your machine when you leave it

Can the computer be locked and still run the screensaver?
On W7 there is a lock command with log off and restart.
Never tried it though....
970
I was thinking of Skrommel's 'Tray Screensaver' as well.
The screensaver can be set to 'none' and it will still start a selected screensaver from a list that pops up from the tray when clicking on it.
So if you have more then one screensaver that will display a message, that could work.

https://www.donation...html#TrayScreenSaver

And thanks mouser, I forgot about your 'Multi Photo Quotes'.
I don't run a screensaver personally, I have the monitor shut off after 30 minutes of idle.
971
Add a drop down for often used text, etc.

That's what it needs for different messages.

You could use your photo screensaver, and set it to use screenshots of messages typed in Word or some other editor. In the settings have it point to that folder where the screenshot message is saved.

But then you still have to change the setting of the screensaver for different messages.
Just a thought.....

If you are a student or staff at any school or university,
providing proof of that status to this site will get you discounts.
There prices vary from negligible discount to extreme.
I bought Windows 7 for $60 from them when our Tech Dept. sent a letter he received with my name on it as staff.
