You can create custom hotkeys in FARR that tell farr to copy the highlighted text before invoking FARR; you can set the hotkeys to whatever you want; the defaults are just there to give you an example.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Installable vs Portable?

No substantial benefit.  Some people just prefer it as the standard approach.  It can be a little more convenient in terms of automatically creating start menu items.  And you can install updates just by running the new installer versions.

I forget the exact cause of #2, but I do know you can go to FARR "Font Overides" options tab and tweak the size of the result lines to fix it:

If you have that "Override default fond settings" already checked, then you might try unchecking it to solve the problem.  Otherwise check it and increase the line heights below.

I'll add an option to disable tray flashing.
As hamradio says, I think you should be able to customize the file naming already.

Find And Run Robot / Example of using FARR to help you easily translate words
« Last post by mouser on March 05, 2020, 12:35 PM »
Someone asked me about how FARR could be used to quickly translate words that you might encounter while reading text in any app.
Here's a two step example:

1. Create an alias in FARR to open google translate on the specified text.  Here I've created a new alias in my MyAliases group, that triggers on "tr [word_or_phrase]":
Screenshot - 3_5_2020 , 12_30_45 PM.png

With that you can bring up farr at any time and type something like: tr computer and hit enter, to open google translate showing the translation.
You can add more actions in that alias to allow you to do other things like look up the definition of the word, etc.

2. Now to make it easier to use, create a custom FARR hotkey that when triggered will copy the highlighted text in whatever app you are using and launch FARR with the tr keyword specified, ready to trigger:
Screenshot - 3_5_2020 , 12_33_30 PM.png

Now you can just select the text in any app and hit the hotkey.

Note that if you knew you only wanted one action ever on that hotkey you could save yourself from having to hit enter by adding a \n at the end of the "Text for Search Edit Box".

You might also try $$u1 instead of $$1 if you need the text urlencoded for a web page.

It's ok, we don't depend on amazon pay for much.. Just frustrating and many wasted hours coding support for amazon pay processing.
957
I actually do most of my purchasing from amazon.com, and consider myself a big fan.

But here's a reminder of what the world looks like if you are an individual trying to deal with (or are dependent on) a large corporation:

After amazon pay decided yesterday without warning to block payments to us, they have a form you can use to submit an appeal.  I explained why I thought they were mistaken and said I would be happy to make any changes and asked how they would like us to change or what we should do to be in compliance with their policies.  Here is the reply I got today:
"We reviewed your account and the information you provided, and we decided that you may no longer use Amazon Pay. We may not reply to further emails about this issue."

Ha.  Welcome to our future.  All decisions will be made by bots or humans acting like bots.  No need for explanations or conversation.
958
I'm not sure why it wouldn't obey the start at startup, option, but I will check.
I have noticed that the new beta is much SLOWER to start, which I have to check out.
959
Amazon Pay, which we allow people to use to buy commercial licenses for our software from our commercial license page, has decided to block us and refuse to process payments to us.
They have said it is related to us looking like a charity, but won't elaborate or tell us what we could do to fix the problem.
So it goes.

I encountered an issue with the new alpha version after using it for several days where it wasn't updating the clip info as I was adding new clips, and the latest clip wasn't showing in the quick-paste popup menu, and had to restart the program to get it to resume..  Just a heads up.

Android Apps / Re: Android App: Crave Negotiator - v1 - Feb 28, 2020

Glad to hear it might be useful.. I used it successfully today to avoid buying snacks while grocery shopping, but I suspect it won't be very useful in the long run -- the brain is pretty resilient and adaptive and it will find it's way around attempts to trick it :)

Android Apps / Android App: Crave Negotiator - v1 - Feb 28, 2020
« Last post by mouser on February 28, 2020, 03:31 AM »
"Crave Negotiator" is a bare bones minimalist application to help you resist impulse snacking.   It should run nicely on any screen size.

The Basic Idea: The app tries to get you to accept some small delays in succumbing to cravings for a snack, in hopes that you will be able to overcome a momentary weakness.

  • When you push the button to trigger snack mode, you will then be prompted through a sequence (configurable number) of stages where you must wait a small amount of time (just a few minutes), after which you will need to affirmatively confirm that you wish to keep waiting for your snack time.
  • If at any point you fail to confirm a prompt, OR simply press the cancel button while waiting, the snack will be canceled.
  • Psychologically, the hope is that the countdown and small duration will give you the willpower to accept a very small delay in satisfying a craving for a snack.  And that with this brief window of waiting, the peak moment of intense craving will pass.

If anyone wants to try it:

It will eventually be on google play store.

New mini android app coming: Crave Negotiator.

Details to follow.

Since it says the hashes of the CF_METAFILEPICT are different and are only 16 bytes, I'm thinking that actually what happens is that for CF_METAFILEPICT, the data is NOT actually the 16 bytes, but rather that it's a handle to data, and so CHS needs to do some special processing to grab that metafilepict data to store and restore it properly.  I'll work on it.
965
I've added a new tab to the main view so you can see more easily the values of all the fields for the clip, whether they are shown in the grid or not:

Living Room / Re: Thread on 3d Printing Cody Model
« Last post by mouser on February 23, 2020, 09:04 PM »
It is a huge pain to mail these to destinations outside of the USA.. customs forms and all that.. and not cheap.
So the mugs are probably still the preferred thing to send out.
967
I found an issue that *might* be responsible for the double duplicate captures.  Can you download and try the new version and see if it still occurs even if you lower the delay to 200 or so.
968
Updated with improved ability to set limits on different format sizes.
969
only difference I can see there is the milliseconds taken.
Don't trust that view, it doesnt show HASH values -- I will add that now.

Ok I've uploaded a new version that shows blob format hashes now in main Blob tab; should make it easier to see if there are differences in clips.
970
Slight tweek in new update; *might* (but probably won't) improve the issue of double clips.
971
I'm going to go ahead and move the clipboard capture delay option up to a more prominent location in the "More Capture Options" tab, and add an explanation for it; that will make it easier for people to notice.
972
Can I actually compare two clips in this 'Interrogator'
There is no explicit compare function -- it's just the list of formats and hash values you would compare manually.
So what I'd like you to do is look at the two *seemingly* duplicate entries within CHS and view the database views of the blobs from the interrogator window, and see what's different in the interrogator list of formats for those two clips.

Can you show me screenshots of the interrogator for each of the two clips?

It's EITHER going to be the case that the clipboard blobs are different, or that CHS has a bug in dupe detection.

With the same vector drawing and delay set to 500ms -- one clip gets copied.
So I think that probably suggests that your having that same problem with apps that put a lot of info on the clipboard where CHS first grabs the clipboard and then the app adds more info and chs has to go again.  As before, there are a couple of options here -- either forcing a longer delay for CHS from some apps, or some process where i auto-delete the prior copy when there are 2 in close succession.
973
Updated with some miscellaneous bug fixes to handling of duplicates and other things.

Most notable fix was that the new multi-format code was not deleting external image files associated with clips when the clips were deleted and removed from the recycle bin, so if you have image clips from a previous alpha version, you'll need to delete those image files manually when the clips are deleted.

N.A.N.Y. 2020 / Re: NANY 2020 Wrap-up
« Last post by mouser on February 22, 2020, 12:07 AM »
What Deozaan is saying is that in general we don't sell the NANY mugs, we give them out for free to the coders who make the apps..
975
Or the problem could be my hash calculation on blobs has some bugs.
