Post New Requests Here / Re: Do It Tomorrow reminder - Anti-Procrastinator
« Last post by tomos on November 06, 2008, 05:07 AM »
not what you're looking for but throwing it out there as an idea:

I've just started using Justice's JustToDoIt - Fast ToDo lister
Simple ToDoList AHK programme

Works using a text file - each line shows in the GUI as a new ToDo item
You can add a list to a text file - so for example I can copy items from IQ/SQLNotes, add to text file and reload (Ctrl+R)
This way I can very easily create a "daily" list
Or of course you can very easily add items using the GUI !

I leave it open then and check the list every now and again - this is probably more suitable to me as I rarely see my desktop anyways!

I like this a lot Justice
I can add an (e.g. daily) list to the text file from another app and just reload

Would it be easy to change it to one click on the tray icon to restore the window ? (I always think the tray icons should only need one click, like the Quick Launch icons)

Excellent letter, mouser and Darwin.

And lastly, a note about the differences between Find and Run Robot (FARR) and LaunchBar Commander (LBC).  .....  Personally I use both -- LBC for my more common programs, and then FARR for the less common ones.
:D - just goes to show how different we are, as people. I might wanted to say the exact opposite: FARR for everyday used programs, because those names I can remember, and LBC for the seldom used ones, because these names I most likely have forgotten.

+1 on both counts :D

There's an interesting post here: Genius Catalyst
about Expectations versus Standards, Agreements and Hope

So how do we manage our expectations of life and of other people in a way that allows us to think creatively about the future without setting ourselves up for future disappointment?

There are three distinctions that I have found extremely useful in answering this question for myself:
-
not 100% sure why I'm posting it here - maybe I think it might help me (+others?) to get things moving here or anywhere that might be important ...
I had a post planned for here a while back along the line of "specifics" as suggested by Tuck, but I cant remember it and dont know did I even write it down anywhere :-[

So I'm printing that out and I'll think on it a bit and see do I come up with anything ;)

Is there a way to paste directly to the HTML pane within the window that the hotkey brings up? I just pasted it in the indicated "Paste" pane on that window.

When you paste the HTML content, make sure you paste in the HTML area (click on HTML button or Alt-H to view it).

Once the add new item window is open, the Alt+H shortcut will give the HTML area focus - then you can paste
When you open the new-item-window first, the focus is in the "item" field which I guess is the equivalent of the Title of the new item. I usually write something there and then proceed to html area and paste

The winner in the Test was humyo.com.
ADrive was only third.

Features
    * 25GB storage for media files
    * 5GB storage for non media files
    * Access via web browser or mobile phone

not sure how they define or differentiate between media/non-media files?

actually they now say on this page
http://humyo.com/pag...ge-plans-and-pricing
10 Gigabytes
5GB for Photos/Music/Videos & 5GB for other files

OK, after a restart it worked. Kinda. It opens a dialog for me to paste text into, so I have to first highlight and copy content from a web page. However it also wants a URL pasted, so I have to bring up the page again, highlight and copy the URL, then focus back on the dialog and paste the URL. The result does not look anything like the web page; just a cell filled with plain text.

It appears to just be copy/paste of text into a cell. Not sure I would compare that to capturing web pages, unless there is more to it, though I cannot find any instruction or documentation of this anywhere except your post. Is there more somewhere?

It is copy n paste at the moment (FF+IE plugins are being worked on)
I dont ever copy much from a webpage so I cant say much about how layout gets copied, but all formatting comes through perfectly here including e.g. tables
You're not using Opera by any chance are you ? - you can only copy text only from Opera..

I actually like evernote(even the lates one) But it is a pain in the neck to get multiple data out of it.   I tried Ultrarecall as well and that one was pretty cool. But again that app was more than capturing web pages. I am actually looking for something more specialized, something that just focueses on capturing content and exporting.

have you tried Surfulater - I've no idea if it does what you want but
I see the new version 3 has been released and it sounds very interesting

Thanks guys :) Sometimes I do go a little off-track indeed, I just thought it was interesting and worthy of inclusion. Actually, what does everyone think about those slightly off-topic articles?

I edited my post for clarity ..
was a bit confused for a moment as to why analysing hash[-ish] would be a "search" (and what that had to do with tech :D)
i.e.
I wasnt saying it off-topic at all (personally I dont mind/enjoy off-topic anyways)

Living Room / Re: Printers that print on paper-roll ?
« Last post by tomos on October 30, 2008, 08:27 AM »
Hard to tell if this forum posting from 2004 is still relevant (refers to the i9000 and i9900). Noteworthy is this observation:

So Canon basically admits to crippling their own 'professional' printers because it does not yet produce its own line of Canon brand banner paper! This affects their entire large format line, the S9000, the i9100 and the i9900. I do further research and find that many people are angry with Canon for this intentional lack of functionality, and others make additional references to Canon's lack of banner paper being the reasoning.

thanks Mike,
yeah I found some forum posts but not that one (wow is all I can say - should I laugh or cry :( ;D)
I think they used to offer the banner option on earlier printers but I'm not at all sure anymore

I'll try HP first see how I get on - would be happy not to give Canon the business after their websites wasting so much of my time >:(

I'm a big fan of Canon printers but I'm totally pissed off with their websites -
I'm unable to contact them to ask them a simple pre-sales questions in spite of registering - maybe it's possible but they keep sending you around in circles .. really hate that $%/&§ (nothing like a §$%& to make you feel better ;))

HP in comparison offer live-chat on their sites ....

I'm trying to find out if the PIXMA iX4000 does banner printing. Link is to canon europe.
I cant find the printer, even under a different name in the "Americas" website...

For printing on roll-paper, there's this line from HP:

hmm, maybe the Epson is a bargain after all ...

Does anyone know of any printers (other than Epson - see below) that can print good quality graphic images from roll-paper
  • Quality is important but,
  • Colour accuracy is not
  • Graphic images = mostly outlines (black) with some flat colours

I've got to print some graphic stuff up to a metre/yard long and 280mm/11inches high or else get it done professionally so I'm checking out the possibilities. So I guess what I need is an A3 (double letter-size?) printer that can print on a roll

I've checked out the obvious - Canon and Epson printers
Canon dont seem to offer this. Epson do, with the R1900 being the cheapest - which isnt cheap [€500] - this is a high quality photo printer.

So as said initially, I'm looking to know does anyone know of any other printers that can print good quality prints from roll-paper?

where does the name Axem come from?

presumably it's also a play on ask'em, -> aks'em

.. axing questions ..
[Laughing dog :)]

just BTW..
that wasnt meant to be a pun on "axeing" (would be then = cutting questions :-\)
but rather a throwback to how we used speak as young ones -
before it was bet into us to speak proper like  :)

or maybe not?

Ah... rules me out then! I'll have to stick with vanilla ice cream or, better, cheese!
cheese icecream ;D
Believe it or not I've tried it - blue cheese at that (in Asturias I think - north Spain at any rate) - wouldnt recommend it though!

+1 for the eggnog icecream though :) - it sounds like a perfect combination ...

Around here (Scandinavia) one of the reasons for still accepting Summer-time, DST, is for the day-time working people to have the chance be a little more in the sunshine, in order to fight lack-of-light related depressions :-)

I think they should keep summer-time the whole year round.
In the depths of winter in the average job it's dark when people leave home and dark when they get back so not much difference there.
Current affect of winter time here is that it's already nearly dark when "average worker" gets home - but more bright in the mornings -
actually I was thinking probably the main reason to change back (to winter time) is to help people actually get up in the mornings - me, I'd prefer the daylight later in the day ...
or a 5 hour winter working day would be another solution ;D

currently if using a bunch of AHK scripts you end up with a bunch of AHK tray icons ...
I've tried merging some scripts into one but that can be buggy I found

So in other words, perhaps a more clear topic is:

If you can't afford OCRw (Optical Character Recognition) to help in automatically creating a bunch of MySpace accounts, then get a bunch of freeloaders (people coming for cracks) to do the work for you!

Deozaan - you the the job as official translator for when scancode posts in future!

sounds great mouser
how about the repeat donor gets the option to get a second key they could give to someone else -
(maybe not a lifetime one?) - not sure myself if it's good idea but just throwing it out there anyway.

I've recommended stuff from here to people but know they wont bother, this could be a way of spreading the word - say someone gets a liscence for a year or 6 months, then they can come and donate or not as they see fit
