Instant Boss - Too bossy :) I didn’t like all the preconfigured messages either.

...

Workrave - A bit too complex for my needs, but has short stretch intervals and other reminders to help reduce strain.

I commented there (had to tone it down a bit first !!) :
First, thanks for the comparision!

I’m afraid I find that a ridiculous comment on Instant Boss - what do you mean by it being “too bossy” ?? and just commenting on the messages then seems pretty superficial to me…

I used to use Workrave before Instant Boss. I gave up on it because it was too in your face and didnt credit me with any intelligence/initiave - i.e. far too bossy for me at any rate (unless they’ve toned it down in the last year or so)

In fairness Workrave is aimed at people who have wrist/arm problems from use of the mouse & keyboard and who are trying to regulate their use of same

it certainly makes me extremely gun shy about purchasing expensive software from small developers. There are no guarantees at all!

true, I worry about that at times, unfortunately there's no guarantees from big companies either ...

EDIT/ apart from (maybe) the guarantee of bloat and (probably) the guarantee of slow or no response to your queries and/or bug reports  :( ;D

I hadn't noticed the 2 year rule on upgrades!

That's the nail in the coffin for me - no way I would be tempted to pay for the product from scratch

Yeah, I find it a bit harsh in any product but especially in such a relatively young product
hmm ...
in fairness it upgraded to version 2 Dec 2006 which is almost two years now .. but still - I think he should at least offer 25% reduction to people who bought a version 1
9004
I was suprised by the price hike allright  :-\

I notice if you actually go to buy, you (all) get a 12% discount, but the 50% upgrade is only valid if you bought Surfulater in the last two years - must check when I got mine, about two years ago I'd say :(

Not a formula for Shell oil, but one that if followed may yield a cheaper and altogether more cozy way of heating your home:

62 O2 (g) + C52H84O22 (s) --> 52 CO2 (g) + 42 H2O (g)

I seem to be needing lot's of help these days -
anyone else understanding that ?
I tried reading out loud but dont know what C52H84O22 is
Actually searching for it I found

Hell, all this time I thought Cody was a turducken. Darwin described such a species from the Beagle way back, no?

Darwin, ?

damn, we missed your 5000th post :(  enjoyed the link though ;)

It has also made Ctrl+O a universal hotkey here :tellme: ;D

didnt notice till now cause I usually launch files from a file manager
will reboot later and see if it's still a problem after

EDIT/ I've left it running and ticked suspend hotkeys

General Software Discussion / Re: SQLNotes...what is it exactly?
« Last post by tomos on November 11, 2008, 03:00 AM »
I agree. But that's exactly the problem: Why DO items show up sometimes - and not show up at others? If it is due to filters, then I'm baffled, as I have not touched any of the filters.

In this scenario, I think you'ld have to explain in detail what happened - the problem is, as you say: you dont know what happened.
This happend to me at the beginning & I've no idea why but now I'm reasonably familiar with the programme it hasnt happened since so I'm presuming I did something wrong somewhere.

If you figure out how to get those items back, I think that will also help with your understanding of the programme and maybe help you find out why they stopped showing - search will find individual items but probably better to use the date filter if they all created around the same time ( [item created] on such n such dates).  When you find the items have a close look in the properties pane at what fields are filled. Possibly what happened (if they were sub-items in a grid) is that for some reason the parent link got broken. If they were top level items the source field was deselected but I cant imagine that happening.

Filters include the Date filter and the Alpha-numeric filters as well as the filter in the sourcebar

Dont know if any of that help (I'm also possibly repeating things you know...) :-\

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
RE all items meeting source or not -
I was happy with current situation (only top-level items meeting source) because it meant I could display hierarchy in an expected way
As far as I know if I use hierarchy display mode and some sub-items also meet source they are displayed twice (once as sub-item, once at top-level) which disturbed my sense of "order" :P
Correct me if I'm wrong there - I havent checked this in a long time so situation may have changed - will test it later
If I could get the display to ensure that an item only shows once (presuming it's only in grid once) I would be happy to have some sub-items meeting grid-source -as Pierre says sometimes it would be appropriate, sometimes not.
eh ..
I have the same problem with AXEM.exe as I had with JustToToIt -
the universal restore hotkey (Ctrl+R) clashes with another program I'm using.
(I've actually figured out now how to change shortcuts in AHK scripts (rocket science - for me!) but that the script itself isnt working properly for me ...)
I only got around to trying this today
The exe works well here so far
The AHK file doesnt though - when I select a script to run, it runs the script above it on the list and there's loads of error messages - I just went to the exe then - if you need more details I'll try it again
Great stuff !
I had been considering asking you about the sort and would have missed a hotkey to restore window so I'm very happy with the update :-)
I'm not making huge lists in it - I had the idea of having two panes with two different lists (or even to show the "Done" list) but agree with you that the simpleness is nice (and clean)
Actually the two pane idea would be nice from the "do it Today" "do it Tomorrow (or after)" lists perspective
With drap and drop for tasks but maybe I'm just getting carried away ;)
Currently trying spideroak as the feature set in the marketing speak is appealing - they alas dont offer a competitive enough deal on larger plan - I dont mind paying 10/month but 100Gb is just too little to back up all my photos and music files as well as my documents. So I need two.
have you checked out Carbonite (I havent used it) the offer unlimited storage for 50$ a year
there was a thread about it here somewhere - ah I see you've posted there ;)
I'm using Jungle Disk/Amazon S3 for important backups
and
DropBox (because of it's versioning and partial file update capability) for my SQLNotes database (otherwise I'd be backing up over 10MB every 15 mins or whatever ..)
but I havent gotten as far as backing up photos which I'd like to do at some stage - about 60GB at the moment
so will be curious to hear if you find something suitable to requirment #2
-
- things that are purely a "in case my house burns down or is burglared" things - things that are already backed up on an external drive at home but whose loss would be irretrievable
In my profile preferences it's +7 hours -
I just tried "auto detect", it doesnt work here (GMT-1, I'm not sure if that's central european time)
When I click auto detect "NaN" shows in the box, when I click Change Profile it goes to "0" which is 7 hrs out of synch
no big deal to me, just mentioning it ..
did you figure out the problem with the file dates urlwolf ?
clipping several parts of one page in one item sounds great - I guess it would be unfeasible to clip parts of various pages to one item?
This is probably your intention anyway:-
How about if the new item window comes up with Title of webpage in "Item Text" and if one simply presses return, the new item is saved (i.e. pretty much same as now except all areas automatically filled)
Interesting that I came across this just now. I just came from the Free Download A Day website and was thinking about downloading A Drive.  Ever since my computer crashed and wreaked such havoc in my life, I live in fear of it happening again. I keep backups on an external WD drive and some of the most important files I also keep on a flash drive but I'm still not comfortable. I mean, what would I do if my house burned down or someone stole my precious Gremlin (yes, my 'puter has a name)??? And A Drive offers, not 2, not 5, not even 25 but 50 GB of free storage.
ADrive has a very slow upload acording to the test Crush links to above
160 mins (almost 3 hrs) for 300mb
75 mins to download same
and
a generally slow and/or problematic connection - still got third place though!
Just so's you know
50GB is tempting though ;)
np give me a minute, i'll change it to F5 and only when the window is active, that should sort it.
it is nice though having a hotkey to restore from tray :-\
EDIT/ but maybe easier to do as you suggest
ooups
the Ctrl+R shortcut is a universal hotkey - great in the sense it also restores the window when closed ([edit] which sort of makes the single click request above irrelevant) but not so good that's it's stolen the key combo from my main work programme!
I was using the exe but searched the AHK file for Ctrl - this was the only line I found
Menu, ViewMenu, Add, &Reload   `tCtrl+R, ButtonRescan
tried changing that Ctrl to Shift without success
was thinking Shift+R - is easy to type and not used else where - I think not at any rate ...
