this should go along with the other suggestions

although the msconfig one will nail down a specific program or driver

Living Room / Re: Is a college education worth the money?
« Last post by cmpm on June 08, 2010, 03:15 AM »
My wife works at the college our sons go to, which was and is our plan.
An Ivy League college that is ranked high.
There is no way we could afford this without the tuition free benefit.
Although there are still costs involved even with the help provided because of our low income. I think it's called 'FAFSA' to help with books and expenses.

I'm glad they have this opportunity that I didn't have.

Is a college education worth the money?

Depends on the student and how much he/she wants to get from college.
And why, I suppose.
In college you have to push yourself,
as opposed to K-12, withthe teachers pushing.

A degree in anything is good if you are good at it.
It doesn't limit you to that field either.
And all the extras you have to take will come in to play.
Surely learning means growing in many ways.
Be it college or anything.

That's interesting, I didn't know there was a limit.
And what if you bought it for someone else?
Do you have to tell them?
I would think something is really wrong here.

well. people are  free to waste their money
i hope it's not money needed for something else

for some it's other things that are addicting
if it's not hurting anyone, including themselves,
who cares?

alcohol and drugs would be far worse

General Software Discussion / Re: Is Nero 10 returning to good form?
« Last post by cmpm on June 06, 2010, 03:29 PM »
I have Nero Multimedia Suite 10, and it works fine.
You just have to stop Nero Backit Up from auto starting.
There is no 'InCd' background program running either.
Unless you need it, it gives the option to include it.

I'm wrong most of the time.
But that's what I saw from the reviews of others.

Ipad seems so limited compared to these others for more programs and functions.
And sheesh, no usb or card reader on ipad!

I think Apple has the touchscreen done better so far.

the competition is moving in-

General Software Discussion / Re: PikyBasket replaced by Copywhiz
« Last post by cmpm on June 05, 2010, 01:18 PM »
Here's a similar product, though it's not quite the same.
It's main function is to copy a file or files to multiple folders.
Using predefined rules saved to the program.

Installing it will autostart the program with windows.
But you can turn that off.

Copywhiz has more features but this is free for personal use.

A good spot for this article from gHacks I think.

http://www.ghacks.ne...ablet-revial-coming/

This may have something to do with the rumor mill or facts.

Would like to see a google person of some authority post here, since they are always talking or loosing something.

If you use Firefox-

Hyperwords might be useful, if you know where to put the text so the program you want to use to put all your copied text into.

Windows Live is better then Google anything anyway, imo.
The Mail, Photo and even Messenger.

I really like Live Mail, it loads fast and can be easily set to default mail handler for everything, better then the Google Apps.

Did you add the W7 library to the XP Windows Media Player from the XP machine?
You probably did, but here's a screenshot-
in the options of the library dropdown commands
'more options'
then
'monitor folders'

Try adding the text first,
then the stationary.

See if it comes out better.

it's just a joke, the way things were posted seemed funny to me anyway

you would have to suspend your knowledge of computer abilities to see it i guess....

sequence of events-(i think, by dates of posts)

40hz looses his avatar

superboyac has it, and a bigger one just like it

CleverCat has a new ride, not sure when she got it

40hz gets his avatar back

-it was meant to be light hearted
superboyac holds 40hz avatar hostage till CleverCat gets her new ride

maybe my humor is warped
yeah...lol...i think it is.....

hm, something going on here.....

Some how superboyac taunts 40hz with his avatar on the 26th.....

After 3 days time CleverCat has a new ride.

And now 40hz has his avatar back.

As payment for being the middle man,
superboyac now has a huge 40hz avatar.

Interesting huh!!??  :) :) :)

I use PDF Xchange as my viewer and Nitro 6 for other pdf work.

General Software Discussion / Pdf tools-Getting Better
« Last post by cmpm on May 26, 2010, 03:09 AM »
These two tools presented by gHacks and freewaregenius are a big step forward imo.

Nitro Pdf Reader

http://www.ghacks.ne...25/nitro-pdf-reader/

JPDFbookmarks

http://www.freewareg...using-free-software/

I don't know much about the bookmarking of pdf's, maybe it's always been in some pdf viewers and programs. I don't know. But this article drew my attention to this feature.

And the Nitro pdf reader seems more advanced then your average free reader.

I have to retract my approval for CleanMem,
with windows 7 it actually slows response time for starting apps.
Even FireFox when it's minimized.

It didn't happen with XP like with W7.

Anyway, better late then never.....
