Firefox scrapbook is one of the reasons I'm not using Opera...

I'm using Website Watcher for my web monitoring needs, including RSS. It's a bit clumsy for RSS as it is right now, but I've suggested the author to change the "InfoWin" to something like The Bat's mailticker... that would make it awesome :)

I think the executable size isn't the most important point to focus on. Today we have hundreds gigs of hard disk to waste. :)

True - and even on a floppy, ~100kb isn't too bad. USB flash drives are even larger, and probably more common than floppy disks today, too. I'm a bit brain-damaged by my assembly background though, and still take pride in small and efficient software  :eusa_dance:

The Virtual Size is kinda how much memory the application has "reserved", and isn't necessarily a bad sign unless it's extremely high (each application has a max of ~2gb on a normal system). It doesn't mean that all this memory has been *allocated* for the application, though. Iirc it also counts memory shared with other processes (like DLL files).

Private Bytes, on the other hand, is the real deal. This is memory allocated by the program, not shared with other running applications. 60 megabytes of real allocation is a LOT for an application like this...

Funny coincidence, I was actually thinking about unicode when I woke up half an hour ago - then I turn on my box and see this post :)

I want to support unicode for the next version. I'm not sure whether to save in UTF-16 (windows internal format) or UTF-8 (more compact format), though. UTF-8 might bloat the executable size a bit...

Holy fork!

Klipfolio looks pretty nice, but it takes up 204meg virtual size and 60meg private bytes - that's WAY too much for a program of this kind. Especially the private bytes usage is insane :-O

I do store a hash of the password
-f0dder

Oops!
I mean a hash of the PLAINTEXT, of course! (fixing up the previous post, but posting here as well)

Many thanks for fSekrit. Great tool!!!

>feature requests

The author of Ghost_AES (http://free.pages.at...ost_hunter/crypt.htm) claims ultimate security because he's not storing the password. So if you decrypt using a wrong password, you'll get unuseable data.I like the idea. It sure makes brute force impossible.

If you also like this idea, perhaps you can add a "don't store password" option in future versions of fSekrit.

I don't store the password anywhere. I do store a hash of the password plaintext, but it is impossible to reconstruct the password from the hash. It's true that storing the hash means you can automate bruteforcing, but bruteforcing a 256-bit key is infeasible, even if you distribute it massively.

Also, even for a solution where you don't store a hash of the password plaintext, statistical analysis could be used instead of hash-checking; this is remarkably effective. There would be some false positives that would need manual checking, but not too many...

So I'll keep storing the hash for convenience :)

So... you simply sit down and play around? There's no goals?

Fine enough by me, I just wish they'd stated that before entering the game. Makes me frustrated when I can't figure out what I need to IF ANYTHING :-)

Importing text files is planned for next version.

Remember window size (and position, when re-opening window after save) is already implemented - current version is 1.0, mouser hasn't updated to that yet, though. 0.6 wasn't meant to be public ;)

Commandline parameters are also planned for the next version. Dunno if I want to support encryption key on commandline, though. Currently the save feature kind-of does this, but it specifies the AES-256 encryption key in HEX format, not your passphrase...

Let me know of any feature requests, bug reports, praise :P, whatever..

Version 1.0 released, grab it at http://fsekrit.donationcoder.com  :D

Many thanks to Stefan for the original idea, and for being very patient with me. I've spent more time developing this than I think is reasonable, at least considering my own standards. But now it's done, hopefully pretty stable and usable, and... go download, already :P

Here's the post that started it all: https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=1838.0

I have a fairly fast typing speed, but it has the disadvantage of bringing a number of typos with it. If I could slow down a bit, my net result would be a higher wpm I think...

There, redid the test: 439 keys per minute ~ 87 words per minute. 14 mistakes, though :(
9% of registered TyperA users using this language have typed a better result; 91% have a lower or equal result.

hrm, seems pretty fscked up... appearantly I missed one word at the start, and what I thought was highlighting of the current word to type was indicating I was typing wrong - doh. I was pretty fast tho :P

Haha, cute idea :)

I'd love a mini-itx for my next server... probably not EPIA considering the pretty low performance and relatively high price, though. Some shuttle mini motherboard with a P4 celeron should do...
