What I would REALLY like is to patent a process for expelling waste fluids and solids from the human body.

My opening statement for my first patent suit would be, "Why aren't your eyes yellow? And why do you find it easy to sit?" :P

Brilliant!! you're patenting trolling

from slashdot this morning (apologies to those who've seen this, but I'm posting 'cos these things routinely get disgust here )

Bethesda was apparently pursuing him because his latest game title uses a word contained in on of Bethesda's titles.

at the risk of being on topic, have you considered adding some sound deadening to the case as well?

I'd try sitting the case on something (a piece of high density foam or polystyrene sheet, or even corrugated cardboard) and probably lining the sides as well (they make great drums!!)

So this is something like Win7's "libraries" as a separate software or what?

I don't think so...

YMMV, but for my money it appears to be something more like a cataloguing tool

Files are tagged (multiple tags can be used for any one file), and can be added to multiple groupings.

Finished Programs / Re: SOLVED: Unstack Skwire's ClipTrap Output

how is the conversion done? (depending on the answer it may be possible to process directly from the cliptrap file)

do they have to be Excel formatted?  CSV is a plain text alternative that is 'native' to Excel (and pretty much any other spreadsheeting app).

you might also consider processing the cliptrap file directly from Excel using a (VBA) macro

another alternative might be to use something other than cliptrap (I'm thinking of something that sends a copy of the current clipboard to a file)

personally I haven't used it beyond a cursory inspection, so I can't comment on the functionality or capabilities with any authority.  I rather liked the concept though, so I'll have a bit more of a game with it at some stage (HA!)

FWIW though I don't see it replacing a regular file manager, maybe complimenting it in some circumstances, but YMMV

Lots of files on your PC have the exact same name. They can't go in the same location without overwriting each other.

from what I can see, it doesn't actually move any of your files, but tracks their location in a database, so a single file could be tagged multiple ways without affecting the actual filename or location

Looks interesting. Any word on license terms and price?

As far as I can tell it's freeware - the app can be unpacked (using UniExtract) and runs fine as portable, and you can view the licence through the help menu

General Software Discussion / 'new' file manager - Elyse
« Last post by Target on August 03, 2011, 09:12 PM »
apologies if this is not news to you

spotted this one a few weeks ago on addictive tips (it's since popped up in a few other places) and thought it may be of interest to some here (if a calendar based app (Nemo) can get some traction, who knows...)

Elyse is a tag based file manager.  Seems like it would be particular interest to those working with significant media collections, or possibly for project workers

From the homepage

Elyse is a file management system which solves the major problem with traditional methods of managing large numbers files on computers: paths and folders. Storing files in Elyse eliminates the need to decide precisely where to store a file, or to subsequently find where it was stored. Any logical method of grouping and arranging files can be used. In short, you the user are given the power to impose your own logic, and change your mind as often you like with just a few clicks.

Great to hear.  As for official link, it must be a caching issue on your side since I'm certain the correct file is there.  Does your work/ISP run some sort of transparent proxy?  Do you see the same issue with different browsers?

we're behind a proxy which I suspect is the issue - same results from IE and FireFox

I'd assume this as well since build 10 is on the server.  In the meantime, try grabbing this (same zip, diff name):
Apologies for the trouble.   :-[

no apologies necessary, just another of the marvels of modern technology ;)

That did the trick, and FWIW I'm still getting build 9 off the official link

many thanks for your time and attention

And you're, for sure, running v1.0.6 build 10?

interestingly it appears to be build 9, though I have downloaded and overwritten with the latest versions a few times in the last week (including once this morning)

and just confirmed that the copy I downloaded and installed this morning was build 9 so there could be some sort of caching issue at work here...

Hmmm...seems to be okay here.  With Trout running, I'm able to press F1 in other applications and launch, say, their help file.  Do you happen to have an F1 hotkey defined under Trout's options?

nope, no hotkeys, and confirmed that with Trout running all F1 key presses are waylaid

bug report - running version 1.0.6 build 3 and it appears to periodically steal/disable the F1 key

I generally leave it running in the background while I'm working and at some point in the day the F1 key stops working (an essential key for logging into one of our mainframe systems) - I have no idea what triggers it, but isolated it to Trout by progressively closing the running apps until the functionality returned...

+1 for OpenExpert

and FYI I'm pretty sure you can set up multiple file associations - just name them to suit the end application and they'll come up in the context menu when you click on a file

I have a micro SD card usb adapter as well, but i like the idea of using an SD card cos it goes straight in the slot (no adaptor required) and nothings exposed, and if needs be I can take it out and put it in the laptop at work too.  And if I need to access it at home I can use a card reader

Just seemed a neater solution as USB keys could be vulnerable in certain situations, but you never seem to see them 'promoted' this way - it's always this is a camera card, this is a phone card, etc
900
Like most everyone these days I have a handful of USB drives that I use for all sorts of things, however I just bought a netbook to do a bit of stuff on and I was wondering why I couldn't use an SD card instead of my usual key.

I assume the internals are pretty much the same as USB keys, but the SD cards form factor is a bit more user friendly (it goes in the slot, out of harms way)

What I don't know is if there are any limitations on using these things like a 'normal' drive.  It doesn't seem logical to me that there would be, but then what do I know

I've had a hunt around and I don't seem to be able to find anything that discusses the relative merits of the different types of removable flash memory, though of course having said that, the first thing you guys will do is google the answer straight away

Anyone able to shed some light on the subject (don't limit yourselves just to SD cards and/or USB keys either)
