Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Suggestion: [New] AddContext menu - Google Search for
« Last post by mouser on November 20, 2013, 01:36 AM »
Fixed -- please redownload the latest beta.

ps.
I used a combo (dropdown) box so it could support any number of user-defined actions.  I hope the extra required click isn't too annoying.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Export to txt-Import into Excel-some minor flaws
« Last post by mouser on November 20, 2013, 01:31 AM »
Apparently, if the filename has a txt extension, you get a different import wizard which looks like it can do csv but not really.  So half the fix was renaming the file to .csv extension.

One thing I've noted is that I was able to export a clip with = near the beginning of the cliptext, and it freaked out excel and caused that one row to import wrong.  This seems to be excel making an ass of itself and there's little i can do to fix it.

If you figure out a way for me to tell excel to not be so stupid, please let me know.

Good work bill gates and the Excel team -- never content to do things the standard way

Ok please try the new beta with completely rewritten CSV export.
Also, see the Backup/Maintenance tab in options for some new csv export options.

Now that I have been forced to write my own export procedure, this request will not be too hard to implement.
Let me first make sure the single file csv export works well, then we can revisit.

Though it would help me sleep well at night if there were one more person on planet earth who wanted this function :)

Nevermind, i'm writing a whole new export function and i can test on excel and see it's choking on some formats.
I'm fixing.

I need some more information.

I've just done some checking into this, and it appears, to the best i can tell, that CHS *IS* properly writing the csv file, and your import process is not parsing it correctly.

It seems to me, from the screenshots, that the import process you are using is not properly dealing with embedded linebreaks.

But here is how a CSV with embedded linebreaks should be handled, and it seems consistence with CHS:
http://www.creativys...ticles/CSV/CSV01.htm

I can't believe the excel isn't capable of proper csv importing -- but maybe there are multiple options for importing CSV files are you are just choosing an unusual option?

OR, I could be misreading how embedded newlines are supposed to be represented in a CSV file.

Ok I watched the video -- thank you for taking the time to make that -- that makes things quite clear.

What a strange bug -- and one i need to fix immediately -- I'll try to have a new release out this week.

By the way, that's an awesome accent and speaking voice -- I almost felt like i was listening to David Attenborough narrate a wildlife documentary.

LaunchBar Commander / Re: User directory incorrectly set
« Last post by mouser on November 19, 2013, 05:40 PM »
Your configdir.ini file looks fine.

This can be a little bit confusing, so let me make sure we are on the same page.

Unlike my other programs, for LBC, when you specify the configdir.ini override, you are telling it where to save its basic options file, and a .mcp (project) file which tells LBC which .mcfg launchbar files were last open.

So to test if its working you should log in to each user account, run LBC, and then load whatever mcf launchbar files are appropriate for that user.  Then exit LBC.  Then do the same for the other user account(s).

What you should see is that the different users LBC will remember that they had different files opened.

Put another way, LBC will not stop userA and userB from having the same launchbar files open -- that's up to you.

But what it should remember, when you make the change in the configdir.ini file as you have, is that different users had different files loaded.

Can you check that and then let me know if it's not working?

Screenshot Captor is featured in PC World' just posted "Show, don't tell: 6 great tools for capturing, annotating, and sharing screenshots":

http://www.pcworld.c...ing-screenshots.html
Screenshot - 11_19_2013 , 5_31_01 PM_thumb001.png

Compared to both Screenpresso and Snagit, Screenshot Captor feels utilitarian and complex. But it's also very powerful, and perhaps more important, it's free/donationware. Screenshot Captor has all the same capture tools Screenpresso and Snagit feature, including scrolling capture. In fact, its scrolling capture feature even out-performed Snagit's in a PCWorld's review of a previous version... If you prefer a more traditional look to your utilities, or want to try a powerful free tool before shelling out money for a commercial alternative, you should try out Screenshot Captor. If you find it useful, consider donating to the developer.

Thanks Iain, glad to hear it's useful.  I'm going to try to fix up a couple more outstanding minor things for CHS and then put out a new official release this week.

There is a column called "Ordering" on all clips -- you can change this to rearrange the ordering of clips.

Latest beta:

v2.22.02 - Nov 19, 2013
  • [MajorFeature] You can now define quick actions that can be performed on clips.  These can be web url searches or local program executions.  They are shown in the quick-paste popup menu and on the main window text memo toolbar.
  • [MajorFeature] You can now highlight terms in the clip text memo.  By default it will match any filter you are using to limit clips shown but you can override it.  You can also hit F3 to jump to next occurrence of the term when in the text memo window.
  • [MinorFeature] Added icons to clip grid right-click context menu.
  • [MajorFeature] Rewrote clip export procedure.  There are also now some options in Backup tab so you can specify which fields get exported and how to handle newlines.

One thing worth noting is that when CHS captures images, it stores the actual images as normal files in a directory organized by date.  You can visit the image directory from the menu "File -> Visit Clip Image Directory" and browse images using your favorite image browser/gallery/etc.

Find And Run Robot / Re: FARR V3 Discussion
« Last post by mouser on November 17, 2013, 06:48 PM »
The other major thing I am considering for FARR 3 is a revamp of the plugin engine.

I was thinking of adding native python plugin support, and making that the new recommended plugin language going forward.

The consequences would be:
1. Easier to write plugins -- no more need to build a dll, just a single-file standard python script file (.py) will work fine.  And I will simplify the API to use fewer and less finicky functions.
2. Old plugins would still be supported, but the new python plugin engine will be the recommended approach for anything but plugins that really need native dll speed.
3. The largest drawback would be that it would probably add a megabyte or so to the executable size of FARR, and I have to check what it would do to memory use.  This is my only real concern.  I'll post more info about this after some experimentation.

yeah that's too big for a forum attachment.
can you upload it to one of the free hosting sites or maybe http://www.screencast.com ?

The access violation error never occurred again so it's probably a local environment glitch.
More likely it's a bug in the program that is just hard to trigger.
