^thanks!

How do I turn Delivery Optimization off?

Here’s how:

1    Go to Start Start button icon, then Settings > Update & security > Windows Update , and then select Advanced options.

2    On the Advanced options page, select Choose how updates are delivered, and then use the toggle to turn Delivery Optimization off. When turned off, you'll still get updates and apps from Windows Update and from the Windows Store.

If you’d just like to stop downloading updates and apps from PCs on the Internet, select PCs on my local network.

-thanks, Tuxman. I am not trying it yet, because the feature I was hoping for, is listed as not yet implemented: When the taskbar is vertical (laptop with widescreen monitor), the mouse's moving distance from everything to everything else is unacceptable long - so to speak - so I want to change the order of certain buttons~areas.

Remembering where we are (What's living in your taskbar notification area right now?), I really am annoyed  that Microsoft on one hand forces me to look at their icons, while at the same time they prevent me from having an equally easy look at the icons from the programs that I have installed. I installed these programs, because I think they are important to me. Get it, Microsoft? No, they didn't. Maybe in a year or so they will have the time to listen?

  • 7 Taskbar Tweaker

so I *guess* you already had it installed when you upgraded to Win 10, Tuxman? So far it has been impossible for me to install 7+ on this "clean" Win 10 of mine: "Support for Win 10 is under development". (Yes, I have donated). Or is there a trick to install it anyway?

Note: For those users that would still like to use the licensed "PRO" version of PDF-XChange Viewer, the Serial keys for PDF-XChange Editor, PDF-Tools and PDF-XChange Pro are compatible for directly unlocking the "Pro" features of the Viewer.

What do 'we' use on Win 10?

I was pleasently surprised to see how fast the default pdf-reader in Win 10 is, and to realize Win 10  even has print-to-pdf as default (maybe because I have no physical printer connected)! But I need editor features, so I am still in the market for a lightweight editor / heavyweight viewer...

Has Win 10 made you change your pdf programs?  :tellme:

Non-Windows Software / How to install Windows 10 on a Mac

>"How to install Windows 10 on a Mac"<
http://www.cnet.com/...windows-10-on-a-mac/

I have never even touched a Mac, so I have no idea if this tip is good or bad:

How to install Windows 10 on a Mac

Why yes, you can install Windows 10 on your Mac. The process can be a little technical, but we'll have your back the whole way through, including how to remove Windows afterward in case you change your mind.

Editors' note: This post was updated on August 12, 2015, with information on how to remove Windows from a dual-boot Mac.

If you haven't already heard, Windows 10 is pretty great and worth installing on your PC. Apple fans won't miss out either, since the new operating system can be installed on your Mac as well.

To install Windows 10 on a Mac, you will need the following:

The Mac you plan to install Windows 10 on
A thumb drive with at least 5GB of storage space (for reference, I named mine "WININSTALL")
A second computer that already runs Windows
    A fast Internet connection
-c|net
There is a fine video on their homepage: 2015-08-13_094746.gif

Note that you won't need a Windows 10 license for the installation, but you will need to buy one if you want to continue to use it on your Mac after the 30-day trial period.

Following these instructions will install Windows 10 on your Mac in a dual-boot configuration, meaning you'll have the option to choose which operating system (Windows 10 or Mac OS) to use each time you turn on the computer. And, if you later on change your mind, the guide also includes the information on how you can remove Windows afterwords.

This guide is for a Mac that doesn't have already have Windows installed. If yours already has Windows 7 or Windows 8 on your Mac, you can upgrade it to Windows 10 the normal way.

Part 1: Getting the Windows 10 file on your Mac

Step 1: Insert the flash drive into your Windows computer and download Windows 10's media creation tool from Microsoft. There are... (read more at http://www.cnet.com/...windows-10-on-a-mac/

Number of current Elio reservations: 44,556.

The number is big enough for a production to begin. However, the design tells me that it will fail. The look of the car is totally without any hint of "Driver's Spirit" (or what this may be called), but is quite frankly pathetic. You cannot win this game on the foundation that it is a pity for America to have lost a lot of jobs. That's simply not an argument for building cars!

Did you ever try Kyle Burton's method? It all was a while ago, but he was a "Superuser". GitHub was in 2009 (was? it's still there!) His twitter account snapcleanme was not updated since 2012, and his blog not since 2013, but MAYBE the trick itself still works?:

http://snapclean.me/ + an email endpoint
It's FREE, but an old "Donate" button is present.

Sure. I first read about the technique at the C2 Wiki CleaningUpWhiteBoardPictures page.
Then I wrote a Gimp Script-Fu script to automate it (clean-whiteboard-photo.scm).
All of that was still too many steps for lazy old me so I hooked it up as an email endpoint.

>>Since 2010, this service has cleaned 10407 pictures for 188 happy people (at least I hope they're happy).<<

5. Read through our Tips for getting the most out of SnapClean.me.

1. Take a snapshot of your Whiteboard or Napkin masterpiece:
2. Email it to [email protected]
3. Our highly trained team of image gnomes will polish it to perfection, (perfection is a journey right?), and email it back to you:
4. Bask in the glory of your work!

If you have any questions or run into any trouble, please email [email protected] for support.

If you need to clean up a white board pic on your desktop yourself, you do have a few alternatives:

Gimp Script-Fu: clean-whiteboard-photo.scm
Do it by hand: How to Copy a Whiteboard With Your Digital Camera or Camera Phone
Do it by hand: C2 Wiki Instructions
Use a commercial Product: Whiteboard Photo

I have not used any of the commercial product(s), I'm not endorsing them, I just googled for them. If you have something you feel I should add to this list, please email me.
This is courtesy of Kyle Burton.
-can you tell me how it works?

General Software Discussion / Re: Where to backup my cloud?
« Last post by Curt on August 10, 2015, 11:09 AM »
OK, so I have 100 GB of free storage on OneDrive.

Have you tried it yet? Have you uploaded the stuff?

Last year (or the year before?) I tried a couple of cloud backups, but was too disappointed with the slow upload speeds. At no point did I find upload speeds fast enough to even call it a backup! What good is a backup, slowly becoming a backup because the upload speed is so slow, that several months will pass by, before the full amount of data is uploaded. No, that's not "a backup" at all. The first company I tried, gave me a speed so slow, that it would have taken me A YEAR to upload a TB! The second company was faster, but still much too slow for me.

But I have not tried our new "OneDrive"; please tell!

-no, not any Start6/7/8/9 from Stardock. Unfortunately I have not kept any emails or History from my part of Start10's story, so I can only give you the two normal links: https://www.stardock...om/products/start10/ and "Features + Download" (incl. "Own Start8? Click "here" to find out if you qualify for Start10 upgrade pricing:")

It's the second time I am testing my licensed Clipdiary... The first time I was too upset about the default hotkey, so I soon lost patience: Ctrl+Shift+Arrow_Up/Down can in my head not be a key to use in a clipboard. Now I have finally produced the necessary amount of patience it took to change the key combination, so after a couple of years of separation, I am using Clipdiary again. Only in a couple of weeks or months will I know if I want to keep using it. I might have more clipboards than brain cells.

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I didn't quite know how to answer your various comments and questions to my ugly taskbar / notification area, because right after posting "Reply #31", I installed Stardock Start10, but in my setup it really looks the same as Win 10 (but without the errors), so only a few would ever notice the difference... But it's still not pretty (here on top of a black wallpaper):

With Start10:

At the moment my clipboard is Clipdiary from Softvoile.

« Last post by Curt on August 09, 2015, 02:36 AM »
I see from this thread that a lot of DCers are excited over a free upgrade offer to Windows 10. I have to ask, what's so great about Win 10, and will it bog down my OS when it is barely running smoothly on Win 7?

Windows 7 was easy to run, compared to Vista. Windows 8 was easy to run, compared to Win 7. Windows 10 is easy to run, compared to Win 8. Replacing your current system will make life easier for your machine

-if your drive has the space! It's not just "+10GB" as some said. Win 10 will also keep your current files, so in real life (with updates, and stuff) it will need in the area of 50GB free.

I hope you later on will come back, bit, to tell how life with the Panda has been.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Wise Care 365 Pro [free]
« Last post by Curt on August 08, 2015, 05:13 PM »
I couldn't find the panick button, but realized that Windows was updating (a quite big update, it seemed) at the same time 365 was changing the settings. Maybe that is why everything suddenly began flying here there and everywhere on my desktop. I waited for the update to finish + two restarts, and now everything is okay again!

one can of course go straight to http://www.wiseclean...ay-computerbild.html (Google Translator button "Select Language" available)

On my brand new Win 10, the 365 program said I had 7665 errors...
Luckily one can uncheck "Start with Windows" etcetera, or even uninstall the thing - easy come, easy go.

Do "you" have a discount code for Dynamic Photo HDR 6 or any other MediaChance product, please?

When I upgraded from version 4 to version 5, the price was $24.
This time (from version 5 to version 6) they want me to pay $56 !!!

I am early retired, so I have learned to write companies and ask for a discount, but this one has to be BIG
- especially because I really want to also upgrade my Dynamic Auto Painter - but that price is even higher

WordWeb 7 was updated 2'nd of August 2015.

I assumed it was for Firefox 39 on Windows 10, so I was already hugging and kissing everybody  :-*
But then I tested it, and it was useless (on my Win 10+Firefox)!  :(

Oh, how I STILL miss this wonderful program.

---------------
Modified: I now think it probably wasn't the program itself that was updated, but merely a stamp from Comodo's safety scanner, in the WordWeb installer.
