I appreciate your vigorous defense of the website Iain.

However, when people take the time to register a forum account and post that they are unhappy about the process here, I do think it's important that we acknowledge their frustration with the steps involved.

ronjf -- as someone with a fairly low tolerance for jumping through hoops, if i try to be objective and put myself in the shoes of someone visiting the site and just wanting to use the software, i think i might be annoyed as well.  and certainly the trend these days is to just make everything free and easy, and then either shove ads down your throat, or sneak in adware in the software, or find other sneaky ways to make money off of users downloading the software.  either that or have no intention of supporting the software for more than a year or so.  we're trying to do something a little different here, and it's not without it's awkwardness. See this article for more on some of the ideas about behind site.

However, i do want to take issue with one thing.  When you say:
People want the opportunity to see if the site is worth while before considering upgrades

This statement is like the emails I sometimes receive from people who say they are uncomfortable donating before trying the software and want to know if we would be willing to let them download it and try it before paying anything.  I think some people have a misunderstanding that they need to sign up and/or donate in order to download/install/try the software..

But the thing is -- even the software on this site that requires a license key has always been freely available to download and use without a license key, without donating, without signing up.  The worst you'll see if you can't be bothered to get a free license key from us is a message when you start the program asking you to consider donating; there are no other restrictions or limitation of features, etc.

Feel free to email me ([email protected]) if you'd like your account deleted.  And if you or anyone else is reading this has decided they can not or will not donate, but still want a non-expiring license key, you can always email me to tell me so and i will send you a license key.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Latest FARR Release v2.213.01 - Nov 29, 2013
« Last post by mouser on November 29, 2013, 12:22 PM »
Minor update since last beta, but major update since last official:

Version 2.213.01 - Nov 29, 2013
  • [Tweak] Option to use generic filetype icons for network drives listed in options to avoid slowdowns.
  • [Tweak] Improved icon lookup times (but still some improvements remain to be done, stay tuned).
  • [Tweak] Added tweaks+debugging tab in options.

Stay tuned, I'm considering doing some major improvements and moving to version 3..

Thanks for the thanks!

I think the new print menu item in the tray could be useful.

  • [MinorFeature] Including .sctool file for IrfanView screenshot folder thumbnail browsing; will show up in your Tools menu if XnView is found installed.
  • [Improvement] Drag and drop of file into the SC window is now smart enough to realize when the file is from the current Screenshot directory and present more appropriate options in this case.
  • [MinorFeature] New tray item to print last screenshot.
  • [BugFix] Somehow the 'z' character could not be used in the post-capture dialog for caption or filename.
  • [MinorFeature] New Redbox capture object mode now will grab cursor if options say to do so (but not when scrolling).
  • [MinorFeature] New option (save/load tab) to not show movie files in thumbnail panel.

Google does what they want. They made it so this info is no longer available.  You can't reach a human at google so no way to complain or get them to fix it.

Official Release:

v1.139.01 - Nov 28, 2013
  • [BugFix] Dropping a file into the middle of a parent's children could have resulted in tree showing incorrect items until preferences closed and reopened.
  • [Improvement] Minor improvements to the preferences/tree configuration UI; split main program options into multiple tabs.
  • [Improvement] Improved layout of command node options and instructions for handling dropped file arguments.
  • [MinorFeature] You can now explicitly rebuild launchbars from the preferences tree dialog from View menu, without closing preferences; this acts as a kind of Apply/preview function.
  • [Change] Enabled the "add padding" option to launchbars by default; this just adds a little padding at top and bottom (left and right) of launchbars.  This is especially useful for making non-full height docking bars.
  • [Improvement] When specifying a menu to be built from file contents, replacements will be made on the filename path specified, allowing you to use virtual folder replacement variables (e.g. %APPDIR% and %APPDRIVE%).
  • [Improvement] It was confusing to new users that the root Options node was where you had to go to change global system options, so I added a View -> Program Options item to menu,
  • [Improvement] LaunchBars won't unhide if a full screen app is running (think Netflix, screensaver, etc.)
  • [Improvement] Some checks for fullscreen app running were failing.
  • [Improvement] On portable use, it was possible for mcf docking bar files to not be found if the directory name had changed.
  • [BugFix] Folder node hints were wrong.
  • [BugFix] Change icon button was sometimes unreadable.

Grammar mine mistakes never can be i make.

As for thie blank space, i think i see now -- it's not a blank space, it's showing as WHITE TEXT (not invisible but hard to see) on the button.  It's caused by the theme you've selected, but i'll try to fix it -- no reason it should be so hard to read.

I can now switch back and forth between the accounts, leaving LBC open in each one and everything is as it should be in both accounts.

And to confirm, if you exit LBC and restart it, it remembers that each user had a different file opened on the last exit, and loads up the proper different last file for each?

« Last post by mouser on November 28, 2013, 06:45 AM »
A portable version is now available from program home page.
8496
Minor update:

v1.13.01 - Nov 28, 2013
  • [Feature] Portable zip now uses ConfigDir_Default.ini which is overridden by the presence of a ConfigDir.ini file, so users unpacking the contents won't overwrite any custom ConfigDir.ini  they may have.
  • [Feature] Now using a dual package (installer and portable zip), with portable zip preconfigured for portable use; installer and executable are now signed.
  • [Feature] Option to check for updates at startup.

Minor update:

2.33.01 - Nov 28, 2013
  • [MinorChange] Better formatting for timestamp column.
  • [Feature] When scanning files (instead of network traffic), the filename is now shown in SourceIP column.
  • [WinPcap] Now distributed with WinPcap v.4.13
  • [Feature] Option to check for updates at startup.
8498
You are right about the bug -- it's just jumping to the END of the list, and so when you have it sorted with new on top you are seeing this behavior. I will try to fix this.

Hopefully this latest beta fixes an annoying problem i've been noticing where moving your mouse to the side of the screen on a full screen game or movie, would make that "sound" that LBC plays when it unhides a dock.  The dock was hidden behind the full screen app but the sound was bloody annoying.
