Screenshot Captor / Re: Question (request?) about red box capture
« Last post by mouser on December 05, 2013, 10:05 AM »
What if i had a shortcut that captured and bypassed, like shift+click.  So if you are holding shift when you click to capture, it does a capture without the extra dialog.

« Last post by mouser on December 04, 2013, 07:25 PM »
if I use 'delay' and capture-region, it waits 4 sec and then I specify region.  I would have thought I would specify region, then the 4 sec countdown would start

this would be a logical thing to think.. but if you try it with your menu example, what you will see is that you have 4 seconds in which you can bring up the menu and then wait, and then the screen will *FREEZE* -- with the menu still visible, and you can then select the region to capture INCLUDING the menu.

As a good workaround, you can simply HIDE/DISABLE the flag and rating columns (click the leftmost icon on the header).

Looks like you found a bug, i will fix.

First things first, are you using the latest version?
8431
I think that sounds reasonable wraith, if i'm understanding..

It sounds like you've addressed my main concern -- which is that it won't install and start itself at startup as i understand it, but run on first actual use, and then just, in your way of thinking, stay running until you don't want it to anymore.

Let me see if i can clarify what i would be interested in from a different perspective, and again this is just my personal tastes i'm not saying they should be yours.

I would want to be able to "install" ImgFloat and use it occasionally (let's say one day a week when working on specific job), and not have it always running invisibly n the background.

I guess when i think about it -- this really puts you in a difficult position in terms of coding this as an external tool:
1. you have to worry about startup times.
2. there's no easy way to let user super-easily toggle this feature on or off as they need it.

i suppose those would be arguments for building this feature into SC if it was something many people needed -- so you are in a catch-22..

however, lets assume that there is value in doing it as a standalone tool -- perhaps not just useful from SC but from other apps, and get back to my main concerns about how it runs..

and i should also admit something else, which is that with today's large memory -- it's hard to justify caring about whether this is running as a background process -- it really won't be doing any harm.

it's more a psychological thing about having a background process running if i'm not going to be using it except for once a week or once a month.

i guess it's not really something i have a need for, so perhaps i'm not useful for thinking about this.  perhaps those that want this will be using it so frequently that they won't mind having a background process running all the time, and won't mind an always visible tray icon where they can exit the background process (or would the only way to see that it's running and kill it be from task manager?).

If there was an option to not stay-resident that might at least make it useful for people like me who just want to play with it on rare occasions..

Mafia2, one of my favorite games of the last few years, is now heavily discounted on steam.

UrlSnooper / Re: what happened to the ascii packet window?
« Last post by mouser on December 03, 2013, 02:44 PM »
it's true, having it flash by live is not very useful -- it goes too fast to make sense of i must admit.

UrlSnooper / Re: what happened to the ascii packet window?

ah i see.. you can get around that by PAUSING the parsing of packets, then click on found packets to see them, then click RESUME.

i can add an option to go back to previous behavior and not show new packets when you click on an old one.

UrlSnooper / Re: what happened to the ascii packet window?

its impossible to view raw packets of urls while the sniffer is on.

this is not true -- i haven't changed anything in this regard -- you can still view packets live.

you can use the Pause/Resume/Parse button in upper right to pause and step through packets.

or am i missing something?

The top item in the Rating drop down is blank, and choosing that should be identical to original blank state.

Developer's Corner / Re: How are these AutoHotkey script protected?
« Last post by mouser on December 03, 2013, 06:48 AM »
I don't think they are actively protected/obfuscated.  Would be kind of silly given that the source code versions are also made available by skrommel.

I think it might be that they have been run through something that gives them a custom icon?

PopUp Wisdom / Re: PopUp Wisdom Love
« Last post by mouser on December 03, 2013, 01:42 AM »
somehow I was expecting the portable version to be configured to look for settings and friends in the directory containing the exe.  It doesn't by default I guess.

it should.

what are you saying happens -- that its creating directories under user\documents and using that directory instead of the executable directory, even for portable version?

Ok i see the problem, the portable version mistakenly has a ConfigDir.ini file in it, when it should just have a ConfigDir_Default.ini.
Delete the ConfigDir.ini and it should work portably as expected.  I've reuploaded a new beta without the ConfigDir.ini.

Does this happen for the portable version too?  I failed to determine whether it does or not (my preference being that it doesn't happen.)

Only if the UserQuotes.txt file does not yet exist.  It would happen in the Books directory on the portable disk.

I'm not sure if you are saying there are problems or not.

Cute! If you search for videos of dogs and lemons you will see exact same behavior -- it's when they want to bite it but they aren't sure about the safety of doing so.

Great.

I'd love one more test report that the new candidate version works reasonably.  I've added a few more features:

v1.08.01 - December 2, 2013
  • [Feature] Portable zip now uses ConfigDir_Default.ini which is overridden by the presence of a ConfigDir.ini file, so users unpacking the contents won't overwrite any custom ConfigDir.ini  they may have.
  • [Feature] Now using a dual package (installer and portable zip), with portable zip preconfigured for portable use.
  • [Feature] Installer and executable are now signed.
  • [Feature] Option to check for updates at startup.
  • [Change] Quote box now hides on mouse-up not mouse-down.
  • [Feature] Popup quotes will not auto display (on timer) if there is a screensaver or other full screen application (game) running.
  • [Feature] PopUp Wisdom will now auto-detect when a quote file has changed and automatically reload the new changes.
  • [Feature] New edit book menu item in popup window.
  • [Feature] Better display of info about each quote book in options (file size, etc.).
  • [Feature] Added icons in menus.
  • [Feature] PopUp Wisdom will now create the default UserQuotes.txt file in the proper user configuration directory (instead of installation directory) on WinVista/7/8.
  • [Feature] PopUp Wisdom will now scan for books in BOTH the installed "Books" directory and a create user configuration "Books" on machines where configuration directory is different from installation directory (WinVista/7/8).
  • [Feature] Start-after-installation option added for WinVista/7/8.
  • [Improvement] Miscellaneous improvements on options dialog.
  • [Improvement] Better installed program icon.
  • [Improvement] Avoids stealing focus (see options).
  • [Improvement] Now much easier to select and preview skin selection, or disable it.
  • [Feature] You can now set a custom sound file.
  • [Change] The use of a skinned appearance is now disabled by default.

If it were easier to add or modify text/quotes, or simply add comments to existing quotes, it could be used in a much broader manner e.g.

you can now edit the quotefile containing the currently shown quote from the menu, but i think the most important new change that should help do what you want is that PopUpWisdom will now automatically detect whenever a quote file has been modified and reload it automatically.  this means that you can edit a custom quote book file whenever you want and the new quotes will be shown.
