Ironic that FastestFox is on that list.

FastestFox tweaks an internal setting called 'network pipelining' which has been discussed here before. since these settings are at best experimental in nature the probability of breaking something is higher.

also to be noted is that FastestFox has a serious bug where it fails to restore the original (default) settings when it is removed, hence the users is stuck with a buggy profile.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Launching win7 start menu items
« Last post by lanux128 on April 05, 2011, 03:03 AM »
It seems to me that the problem is that the shortcut target is %windir%\system32\SnippingTool.exe. I think that the %windir% in the path is confusing FARR.

the %windir% seems to have confused even Explorer.

question, the error says
Windows cannot find 'C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\Snipping Tool.lnk'

Can you tell me what the actual location is for that shortcut, assuming that's not it.

it's here: C:\Windows\system32\SnippingTool.exe

General Software Discussion / Re: How to make Firefox Not Open PDF Files

from the latest comments, it seems that PDF Download is not updated yet for Firefox 4.

via Download Squad, "Mozilla, continuing its year-long crusade to speed up Firefox startup and shutdown times, has published a name and shame list of the Firefox's slowest add-ons." how many of the addons do you use?

PS. incidentally i use 8 from the 50 addons that were listed. :o

since it's a batch file, you can use Farr's own command-line syntax to exit.

-exit = exit any running copy of FARR.

more cmd-line
Commandline Options
-standalone = start FARR visible and in taskbar, and exit on close of window
-search "search string" = start FARR visible (or bring up any running copy) and start a search
-show = start FARR visible (or bring up any running copy)
-hide = hide FARR if visible
-toggle = toggle display of farr
-exitifnotrunning = exit FARR unless it was already running and this was a second instance launched just to search or launch
-launch = start FARR (or invoke in a running copy) and launch a command (can use any normal FARR launch strings including setting user variables, etc.)
-unloadplugins = tell running instance of FARR to unload all plugins temporarily, so that plugin files can be replaced
-loadplugins = tell farr to reload temporarily unloaded plugins (must be balanced # of calls)

this looks like a nice product, thanks for your generosity!

Living Room / Re: Video Games and Mythology Campaigns

if you don't mind a different genre other than RTS, there are games like Titan Questw, Numen: Contest of Heroesw, Rise of the Argonautsw and Loki. as you may have noticed that there is a heavy slant on greek mythology. i'm not sure about other titles but i'm sure fellow DoCo'ers will fill you in later. ;)

Sunbelt Software (makers of Vipre) just posted this on their twitter account.

Samsung Laptops do not have a keylogger (and it was our fault) http://goo.gl/fb/XPQzB

in the end, it petered out to a false positive.. :-\ having said that, i'm bemused by a few things.

1. that a "security researcher" [1] took a security software's conclusion of an imaginary keylogger instead of doing his own research.
2. doesn't anyone else has this Vipre-Microsoft Live combo, since this has never been triggered previously? (this is easy, probably Vipre added something to the virus def. file in a newer update).
3. why is the multi language folder is directly under "C:\Windows"? couldn't Microsoft come up with a better/logical directory structure? (see pic)

yup, different tools but similar function..

if you're up for it, you could use Nightly Tester Tools to "force addon compatibility". that way the older addons will enabled for Firefox 3. ;)

Netcaptor, anyone? was touted as the original tabbed browser. here's the blurb at Softpedia.

NetCaptor - Turns the browser world upside down

NetCaptor is the strongest web browser application on the whole earth! Other browsers only show one page at a time or squish them together in an overlapping mess. NetCaptor gives each web site its own tab!
NetCaptor is the original tabbed browser. Accept no imitations!

Here are some key features of "NetCaptor":
■ Reject Annoying Popups
Hate popups ads? NetCaptor blocks unrequested popups!
■ Clean Up After Yourself
NetCaptor's secure clean up feature obliterates your cache, history, cookies, AutoComplete and other private data by overwriting it 1 to 35 times before deletion.
■ Block Ads
NetCaptor blocks band-width sucking ads, web bugs, and other stuff you don't want to see.

General Software Discussion / Re: SubmitToTab - a Firefox add-on

Heh, heh - thanks lanux128, for necromancing this thread. Completely off-topic, but as a result of your post, I re-read my last post here (from a year ago) and noted my comment about Maxthon and possibly trying it again. I didn't wind up doing anything in the intervening 11 months or so... until this morning.

this is a good time-capsule it seems. wonder how it look in another 11 months. ;D

I installed Maxthon 3 and found it to be pretty slick - it still has those glorious mouse gestures. However, I have IE9 tweaked to perfection and uninstalled Maxthon after giving it a whirl... As much as I like the mouse gestures, I've learned to live without them in the last three years. None of Fx's mouse gesture add-ons come close to the Maxthon feature and I've not found a Windows application to replicate them system wide, either. C'est la vie...

as you might know by now, i'm quite biased with Firefox. but hang in there, someday there'll be a Firefox addon that does the mouse gestures just the way you want.. ;)

NECRO THREAD ALERT

with the advent of firefox 4, this addon has once again been rendered obsolete. however due to the existence of a previous mod by Hendrik Lipka, a mere version string edit is possible to make this addon functional again. :D

click the link below to get this modified solution..

Note: the addon is zipped due to forum attachments' restriction.

sighing
Too bad it appears that we still have to restart FF for add-on installation...

i assume you have heard of "restartless add-ons" from the Mozilla blog. here are some addons that is said to be compliant with this feature.

I want a middle click to load a link into the current tab. Currently I'm using the dev build of Tab Mix Plus...
-cranioscopical (March 27, 2011, 01:21 PM)

i normally use middle-click to open in new tabs so i haven't tried this yet but have you checked this option in Tab Mix Plus?
