One for those that dislike cookies: Self-Destructing Cookies

Mmm, interesting.  Thanks for mentioning this.

Supposedly no restart required either -- though a bit complex-seeming after first installation.

Some cards (especially RealTek) don't play well. Intermittent, random disconnects.

...

If there are any ideas we can split this off to new thread.

One idea is to investigate the following:

Of course this is not wholly on topic but ... please Linux people fix various Linux wifi issues so that I can dump Windows even more quickly.

What's the issues?

Yes, what are the issues?

Good luck :)

Not sure if I'm following and I don't have much FARR context in my head, but If you mean something like:

1. User takes some action which leads to a plugin getting FARR to display some HTML (generated by the plugin say)
2. User clicks on a link or button in the HTML
3. The plugin executes some code in response

Then IIUC the answer is "yes".

An example of this type of situation is in the CommandPromptHere plugin.

Look in the file named callbacks/onSetStrValue.js for the following code path:

  onSetStrValue ->
    handleStartConfig ->
      displayConfigHTML ->
        buildConfigHTML

buildConfigHTML generates HTML which is displayed by FARR.

Within that generated HTML is a FORM element with an action that begins with "farr://pscommand".  When a user submits the associated form, the plugin gets called by FARR's pscommand mechanism.  Specifically, the plugin handles this request via onSetStrValue in callbacks/onSetStrValue.js:

  onSetStrValue ->
    handleConfig

Does that help at all?

Thanks :)

How did you end up with that?

For reference, I checked the search plugin (from Mycroft I think) installed here for Firefox to see what might be submitted.  Below is a copy-pasting of the content:

since Adobe themselves don't support Flash on Android, it should be a wake-up call for video content providers to get themselves updated.

I hope you're right :)

as i said earlier, Java is a different proposition but thanks for reminding me about the portable setup.

Don't know how much help it might be but there's jPortable and jPortable Launcher from PortableApps as possibly useful pieces as part of some solution.  FWIW, I am using batch files in combination with at least jPortable IIRC.

Are you trying to avoid the PDF file format or Adobe's Reader (or Acrobat)?  I use the file format but neither of Adobe's PDF-related applications (SumatraPDF and PDF-XChange Viewer seem to cover my needs).

Flash I'm installing less often, but haven't eradicated yet -- there are some sites I visit that don't really function well without it (hoping that will change but I'm not holding my breath).  One thing I've tried is to have one browser that has Flash set up for it and another that doesn't -- I try not to use the browser with Flash set up for it very much in an attempt to mitigate risk.

Java (or more specifically the JDK), I have a portable installation of and AFAICT it doesn't get invoked without my knowing it.

Non-Windows Software / Re: *NIX: Readers for epub

I discovered by accident that SumatraPDF displays epubs -- so using it via Wine seems to be an option.

To get the table of contents to appear though, tweaking via Advanced Options appeared necessary.  Unfortunately, opening of the document seems much slower with the tweak.

I think you may find it challenging to locate physicists who will risk being publically associated with models that are too far away from the mainstream -- even if they are willing to entertain them in private.

Living Room / Learn Modern Physics from Leonard Susskind?

Came across "Leonard Susskind Teaches You “The Theoretical Minimum” for Understanding Modern Physics".

Screenshot - 9 23 2013 , 11 40 21 PM_thumb001.png

For the past decade, Leonard Susskind, one of America’s pre-eminent physicists, has taught a series of six courses in Stanford’s Continuing Studies program.  The series “explores the essential theoretical foundations of modern physics,” helping lifelong learners (like you) attain the “theoretical minimum” for thinking intelligently about modern physics.

the lectures ... available to a global audience on YouTube and iTunes.

Susskind’s popular lectures found a new home of sorts with the launch of The Theoretical Minimum, a new web site that presents the six courses in a way that’s neat, clean and easy to navigate. The site also offers a short text summary of each lecture, plus related reference materials.

There also appears to be a book -- one reviewer mentioned that getting the errata had been very helpful for them.

On a side note, AFAICT, getting a development environment working for a non-Mac *nix (if possible) is much more work than for WIndows or Mac OS X:

It appears that two of them are already known:

isearch-forward and isearch-backward aren't supported with multiple cursors. If you want this functionality, you can use phi-search.

Commands run with M-x won't be repeated for all cursors.

Another thing I noticed was that sometimes applying the changes to multiple areas was quite slow.  But patience took care of that :)

I tried multiple cursors out a bit.

Although I encountered some things that didn't work so well, perhaps it will turn out to be handy to have another way to edit multiple areas in a similar manner (I've been using keyboard macros for similar ends).

Multiple cursors by just clicking into the text can be used in Emacs too, thanks to the multiple-cursors package.

I saw this in an Emacs Rocks! video but have yet to try it...if you are already a user, do you find it to be worthwhile?

I wonder if speedbar might be hacked to do something approriate...

Then there's stuff like this.

Have you tried keeping it simple "over the years"?  :)

Perhaps in an alternate universe ;)

I do try to prune on an ongoing basis though.
